Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Whatever you'll do, do NOT comment in the Sneijder thread during the match!

We've been average so far but it's understandable from a side that has barely played together in this setup and is only about 24 years old on average. Hopefully we will nick a goal but it seems just as likely that Tottenham will manage to score before we do.

I don't understand the criticism of Anderson. Yeah he's misplaced about 3 passes, but he's also got stuck in on numerous occasions and won the ball back for us.

He's been fine, been playing the defensive role pretty good, could be a bit better coming forward but all around I don't see a big problem. Cleverley is the problem today, he is playing a more attacking role than Anderson and there is really nothing coming from the kid. He hasn't made mistakes but he hasn't done anything except that one shot in the last third. Hopefully he comes good in the second half.

lennon pace is frightening :nervous: he leave evra for dead....

Neither teams created clear cut chances in the first half.

Tottenham were too busy shooting from distance, it's almost pathetic. I will be happy if they keep taking long distance shots in the second half.

United need chances. throw in Berbatov or Hernandez upfront for Welbeck and we're good to go.

We need Giggs, Berba and maybe Carrick or Hernandez even. I'd love to see Berba-Hernandez. Need Giggs and Berba to get hold of the ball for longer

YES!! Gary neville pen time, get the feck in!! :D

As we play with a new keeper, a new winger and three recently composed central constellations there are basis for being satisfied so far IMO. Tottenham are after all not an easy opponent. Good to see that De Gea builds confidence.

phowar look at him using that screen, effortless!!

Need to keep it calm. Rooneys involved but not really getting chances. Welbeck needs to do a bit more. We've been in worse positions. We just have to be patient.

I thought Cleverley has been fine. It's probably due to the fact that I'm aware that he's just a solid player at the moment and don't expect him to solve our midfield issues all of a sudden, I think of him as an improved Gibson and that's what he has been so far.

One positive was Jones out there, looks a beast that lad, imagine him in a few years - incredible potential.

Agree with that.

I know this is blasphemy, but if you had to pick one player he reminded you of...who would it be?

I really think Berba deserves to start ahead of Welbeck atm. He's great at scoring at OT as well.

I think it's hard for him when we're so keep on finishing our attacks in 4 passes. The more patient we play the more chances it gives to the central midfielders and this case Cleverley (since he's given the more attacking role of the two) to influence the game.

1) Its cleverley ffs.
2)Its called playing it simple. Id rather have quick 1 touch passing over hollywood balls any day of the week.

I agree I think as the half has gone on increasingly we've been bypassing midfield and looking for long balls which Tottenham have defended pretty well. I think we need to play some composed touch football in and around the Spurs area give our wingers and full backs time to come short and create options. At the moment its too hasty. We need to add some control to what we're doing.

Yep, Spurs have had more shots on target, our attack has been asleep.

Backline has been totally solid though.

To be fair we could've had as many shot as them if we took some of the hopeless shots they did. We prefer playing it around looking for actual chances before we shoot which means we'll have less shots on goals than teams who just hit it as soon as there's a tiny opening.

Agree with that.

John...twa.....te...twa....te....rry.

I said it, I hope the big Dunc comparisons are more true though!

He called you Alfa boy  In all seriousness Spoony, Jones eh? Looking solid as. Hope he continues this form.

I'd have preferred Alfa-male. And yeah, he's quality, shame about the rest of our football though, that said...Spurs have made it difficult for us.
