Berbatov | Fulham player

From what I have seen from Wellbeck so far he should be no where near above berbatov in the pecking order. He looks clumsy and wasteful.

The youngsters are not ready. But you must be not English to see it I guess. Come end of August, there'll be a different story

Whether he should be above Berbatov or not in the pecking order is a fair debate, to say Welbeck is clumsy and wasteful just highlights someone who has little idea what they're watching.

People clearly underestimate how much of an important weapon pace is. Yes it has to be coupled with good touch, control and finishing and Danny has all of those but need to learn to show them more consistantly for United and he will.

I actually would start him, for alot of the youngsters this season its a case of learning on the job, they all have the ability now they need the experiance.

whereas I suspect Berba's natural tempo and lack of pace is the main reason for his recent omission(I also suspect that the Liverpool away game last season was the straw that broke the camels back as far as his long term prospect go) I also think Fergie has been reminded by Henandez what a potent weapon pace is. When used correctly it immediately forces the team onto the back foot.

Whatever.

Welbeck looks far less clumsy than when he left to go on loan last season, where in all honesty he resembled bambi on ice. Due to his pace he sometimes struggles to get the control you expect from a forward(clumsy) which can lead to loosing possession in a promising position, which in my mind is wasteful. That said his imporvement has been significant and with the players surrounding him at utd he could well develop into an extremely competent forward.

But currently against the better teams I would expect berba, chica and Owen to start ahead of him.

Very harsh on Welbeck but I agree that Berbatov should be ahead and quite easily too as things stand. But you never know really. As good a player as the latter is, his game is not conducive to some of the quick passing interplays we've seen against City and West Brom. He likes to play the game at his own easy pace. So if Welbeck produces good performances helping us play that way, he might have a case. But like I said, as things stand, Berbatov should be ahead.

Course it also would have made sense to keep Hughes ahead of Scholes in the pecking order.

Trust Fergie - he knows what he's doing.

Saf will play Berba when his approach suits the tactics Fergus wants to deploy. Players like Rooney can suit any tactic whilst players like berba chicha welbeck can work better against some teams. There is no pecking order as such its Rooney plus 2 from a pool of strikers.

berba suits our system when we are playing at OT, especially when the oppositions play with 10 men behind the ball, we are attacking 80-90% of the time and we need someone who can hold the ball upfront to open up their defence.

welbeck or hernandez suits when we are playing away because of their quickness and rely on counter attacks.

So the Berba stays, because SAF wants him to stay. Just like I said when everyone in the media said otherwise. I know best, the media can feck off.

" I had Ferguson (Manchester United manager, note) on the phone but he said he was counting on Berbatov and it was not for sale "

Great! Now that we are clear on that, let's talk about the Welbeck 3rd choice -Berba 4th choice nonsense

Wasteful's not a word I would use to describe Welbeck but I do think he looks a bit clumsy at times (while the rest of the time he looks one of our most graceful players) - he didn't get the nickname Bambi on ice for nothing.

Yes. It's not a question of 2nd, 3rd, 4th choice. Rooney is first choice, then we have at least three strikers that SAF will utilize according to form, opposition, etc. Done.

Exactly. A.Cole in an interview a couple of days ago, talked about the number of strikers a top club should have.

He said, the norm was 4 top strikers and 2 young ones. And that's exactly what we've got.

I would imagine Berbatov will start a lot of the home games (except against the top 5/6) and some of the aways against the weaker teams.

Edit. Some SAF comments:

"Rooney’s been flying in pre-season," said Ferguson. "His fitness is terrific, he has that restless energy, he never stands still. He’s a tremendous asset to our squad.

"It’s interesting to see how he’s combining with Welbeck at the moment - they’ve done very well together.

“Obviously when Chicharito comes back, I’ve got a selection problem because the boy’s got goals written all over him.

“And there’s also Berbatov, who’s done very well in pre-season."

Owen lulz

I'm guessing that leaves Berb 4th choice according to that quote? Just as well, his slowing down of moves is already irritating to watch, hell it's irritating in pes 11 when playing become a legend because he wont play me in at the right time.

I can't imagine The Berb walking away....he'll probably be driven off in a limousine.

Doesn't sound great for Berba, implying there's not currently a selection problem.

If they wanted him. Why not just sell?!! PSG got money and we aren't going to get a great return otherwise. I would be happy with the strikers we have excluding Berba.

we really dunno if welbeck will come good for us...selling berbatov like it or not will weaken our squad.

Boss heaps praise on Berba

Sir Alex has paid tribute to Dimitar Berbatov’s professionalism as the Bulgarian waits for his chance to reclaim a starting spot.

Last season’s joint-Golden Boot winner has been the subject of a couple of enquiries but is staying at Old Trafford to fight for his place.

Despite Danny Welbeck’s emergence and Javier Hernandez’s return to fitness giving the manager more options in attack, the Bulgarian’s attitude has been exemplary.

With Michael Owen also back in full training, the competition is probably as tough for a place in the forward line as anywhere within the champions' star-studded squad.

“Berbatov has been brilliant,” enthused the manager. “His handling of the situation has been terrific. He’s not complained one bit.

“He’s a really good professional and he’ll play his part, like all the players on the team. It won’t be at this moment in time because the space between games is good. Then we’ve got the international break for two weeks and, when they come back, the European games start up and Berbatov will be involved as he’s got the experience and the ability to play a big part.”

There was no question of any suitors being able to capitalise on the situation by snapping up the former Spurs striker despite speculation starting from the moment he was left off the bench for the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

“We had a couple of calls but I’m not going to sell Berbatov,” stated Sir Alex. “No way. He’s first-class, the lad, I must say he’s been tremendous and never complained one bit.

“He’s handled the situation well and he’s got that determination about him. Nobody was more disappointed than Berba that night [at Wembley], but he’s been no problem at all.”
