Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

BTW, not sure if it's true but a Welsh mate of mine said that apparantly "Welsh" is an old english word for "Foriegn".

He followed it up with "Doesn't matter where I fecking go even if I'm in Wales I'm a fecking Foriegner!"

 And yes, if I recall correctly it's from Anglo-Saxon waelisc; foreign.
You've got welsch in German and välsk in Swedish, too -- very archaic, and mostly used to denote Catholics/Catholic countries. Like when Sachs in Meistersinger pontificates about "falsche welsche Majestät".

Anyway, although I've calmed down & sobered up, I'm still pretty disgusted that some people are doubting Evra's intentions, and talking about 'playing the race card'.
I'm not saying Suarez should be punished on Evra's word alone, and I'm open to the possibility that Evra might have misinterpreted the remarks, but I still see no reason whatsoever to doubt Evra's intentions. I think he's very brave to stand up for himself, and not take the pragmatic route of 'what's the point of speaking up when I can't prove it'.

He must enjoy biting people then. That wouldn't cause any sort of 'conflct' would it?

Apparently, the account is genuine. Not exactly a denial though.

I can only assume going on to the field with the maximum illusion of a little child sounds more natural in Spanish.

Here's a parallel:

'I'm upset by the accusations of posting rubbish. I can only say that I have always respected other posters. We are all the same. I go to the Caf on psychedelic drugs, possessed by the fantasy of fluffy Care Bears and unicorns who have no interest in posting rubbish.'

Note that I haven't once denied posting rubbish in the above statement, :D just as Suarez didn't actually deny making racist comments to Evra.

Should be a ban either way if they could absolutely he did or didn't say it which they probably won't be able to do so nothing will come of it.

But if they did have recording of what was said and Evra is making it up, he deserves a ban too, don't think he'd get upset so much without it though.

I'm sure he really needed to cover his mouth to say "Some Nerve" I'd expect him to actually walk up to Marcelo and shout that not fecking hide it behind his hand.

It's bloody obvious what he said to everyone, but as my point was, camera evidence isn't conclusive eveidence without clear sound.

Indeed. It was UEFA that took the decision to ignore it. It's a big thing to find someone guilty of racial abuse, when the hard evidence comes down to one man's word against another's.

But the case is a great illustration of why racist remarks go unreported,
1. There's the law of the playground, no telling tales, ignore it - be the big man - don't let them see it hurts or angers, and don't let it throw you off your game.
2. After the game, don't report it because you can't prove it - and if you can't prove it, you'll be the one condemned as a liar.
3. Even if there is video evidence, and there's nothing to be gained from reporting the abuse, "innocent until proven guilty" is still the right of the accused, even though the victim finds himself on trial as well.
4. Busquets went unpunished. Marcelo on the other hand has spent the last two matches at the Camp Nou listening to "mono" chants from the crowd - did that contribute to him getting himself a red card last time? Who knows.

So is Suarez a racist, a wind-up merchant with poor judgement over his choice of insults, or just a poor misunderstand foreigner struggling to make his point to a hot tempered Evra? I don't know, but I can't think of any reason for Evra to make up the accusation.

You don't know that there isn't any evidence. Sky have 15 cameras at a televised game and they only show 1 feed onto the screens at any time

I guess that's where the expression "welshed" comes from as in "he welshed on the deal" i.e. double-crossed.

I'm always a little sceptical when people start playing the race card with no concrete evidence but it's difficult to see why Evra would be making this up.

I bet nothing will come of it though.

These days I can't believe the technology isn't present at a ground like OT to pick up everything

At present, there is no evidence. You can't make a judgement based on evidence that might emerge in the future.

At the least Suarez and whoever else feels it's ok to make racist remarks might just think twice

So, no evidence. OK. I hate Suarez enough that I hope evidence will arise.

Some of the attitudes in this thread have truly shocked me... I'm not sure which is more deranged thinking out of

"Maybe he used racist abuse, but isn't a racist"

or

"There's no connection between being a vile, morality-free twat and being a racist"

Just bonkers, some people here wouldn't know where to buy a clue.:wenger:

It's not bonkers if you actually open your eyes to the world we're living in...not everything makes sense and there's not always logic behind what we do. Some people are just willing to do that bit extra. Some people are saying maybe Evra lied. Can you imagine that? None of it's acceptable but these things happen. People do say things out of the heat of the moment...How many people have said, 'man i'm gonna kill you'...and done nothing...for example.

Well going on suarez's reputation. A player who once bit another player when he was with ajax and got suspended for i think 7 games, well my gut feeling is he did.

Hasn't Evra previously made these accusations and they've come to nothing?

Please educate us, and explain why using racist abuse necessitates being a racist.

There are exceptions to every rule, an actor reading a play, or someone reading Mark Twain out loud might say the n word and not be a racist.

An artist might act racist to make a point.

Otherwise, being racist means acting racist.

Racism is a belief that one race is superior or inferior to another, you don't need to hold that belief to use a racial slur.

I am not reading 14 pages. So, did he?

Our Pat would never lie. Suarez plays for the Scouse. We're on a United forum. It's obvious we'd love to have him put down.

Stop your rationality Lance.
