Manchester United v Sunderland AFC

Lads, we can't play champagne football every single week. Try supporting Carlisle for a few years and then go back to United, you spoilt bunch of knobbers.

I think there is a middle ground between the champagne football of the start of the season and some of bad football we get to witness these last few matches.
The team can do better without necessarily being at its upmost best

Shouldve been more than 4 after the Wickham and Richardson injuries.
Did the commentator really say that?

and we scored in the first minute of the 4 so dont see how its important

The commentator said he felt it should have been more, but then went on a spiel about how Fergie used to stand on the touchline with his watch when started and 'now of course he gets the time' because of his rep or whatever. Poor commentary, but I'd say it's mildly better than Wilkins.

Don't know what people expect, we've had the much superior possesion, playing against a team that is being very defencevise hoping to catch us on the break.

Have you watched us? Slow and absolutely no tempo and only Rio, Vidic and Jones were passing it amongst each other for half the match. And how many shots did we have? 2?

We really need to get back to 4-4-2 and Rooney out of midfield asap. This international break is coming at a brilliant time for us

Just like a manager (and the press) made a big deal out of 4/5-minutes extra time at OT, despite us scoring within the first minute of it. Can't remember which game it was.

All they look at is the number of minutes added and whether we scored in extra time. If we did, it doesn't matter when and the extra time added was too long.

Rooney seems to get a bit impatient in midfield. He definitely would have to work on controlling the tempo better, and always moving into the space like Scholes always did. Head on a swivel and all.

Carrick on the bench, isn't it, bring him on, stick Rooney upfront, one of Welbeck/Hernandez will have to come off.

probably more of the same for 20/30 mins and then they'll have to change from 11 men behind the ball

It looked like it was headed goalwards to me. As long as it was an on-target shot, it's Welbeck's goal.

Just seen it again during half time. If you notice the position Brown is in when it hits him it looks like Welbeck's header is almost going parallel to the goal-line.

I dunno about that, at least Wilkins explains positional play which I'd imagine is good for the kids watching to understand players' movement and things like that. Wilkins chooses the team he's going to rub his old boy over for the match and sticks to it but this guy is just blatantly anti-United.

Nobody is asking for champagne football, just you know some actual decent passes, some actual fluidity, we're not Carlisle United, why should we expect terrible football?
If you believe this sort of football is acceptable for a club like ourselves, well then you're just bloody mental.

What do you expect when we're playing a winger and striker in midfield. Any team would've struggled having said that our play has been painfully slow.

Fletcher's a winger?

It's basically a completely adequate team, with only Rooney playing out of position. And he's our best player, and not a worse midfielder than say Anderson.

But I expected no better. I would have expected no better even with Carrick or Anderson in instead of Rooney.

He's playing behind the striker like always. Welbeck is on the left and Park is in the middle.

Seriously, some people just complain without actually watching the fecking match.

No but Park is you absolute moron. God you're an absolute retard and I don't say on the basis of this thread.

Yup. It barely changed the angle was moving at.

As I said, today is all about the result. We'll play good football once we're able to put players in their right positions.

He always plays alongside the striker. He's clearly dropping deeper far more often than he would in a conventional 4-4-2. Hernandez is playing all on his own up top.

Actually Park used to play both on the wing and as a supporting striker/attacking midfield before he came to us.

Well I know that. But for United he has rarely ever played center for us.

Which has been his role since the start of the Hernandez-Rooney partnership.

It's not even that I want champagne football, I just want to see a glimpse that we're coming out of the lull we have been in for the last few weeks.

what was the yellow and red card comment there about ten mins before the half, something about them not being invented? did anyone else catch that?

When he started managing they hadn't come through. I believe they where first used in the 1970 world cup, but not adopted in the Football League until 75 and Sir Alex started managing in Scotland in 74.

Don't know what your on about. His role hasn't been to constantly drop to the half way line to get things started. He's being forced to do so because of our make shift midfield.

Look the play has been dull, I agree but let's get a bit of perspective here. We're missing 3 of our midfielders(Carrick on bench, but just returned from injury) and Sunderland are playing very, very deep. We've got 66% in this half which tells you how deep Sunderland are playing.

Well kindly please feck off then. Why do you feel the need of having to convince others that what they see is actually good football, you scummy lowlife?

(see, I'm good at namecalling too)
