A win, and we're through to the knockouts. Hopefully a good performance too with a few goals.

1-0.

We have become experts at squeezing out narrow wins, nothing about our play seems to indicate that will change.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Fabio
CB: Jones
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Fletcher
LM: Young

CF: Rooney
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Anderson, Park, Nani, Giggs, Berbatov

Score draw

We need to win here to tie up qualification and ensure that we top the group. Then we can rest players away to Basel and give some kids a bit of Champions League experience where the result won't matter.

Strongest team to get the job done, Young and Anderson to come back in. Hopefully Fabio at RB with Jones partnering Rio in central defense.

Their away strip is even uglier than ours.

Probably won't happen, but I'd like to see this:

.........De Gea
Jones Rio Evans Evra
....Carrick Fletcher
...........Park
Tony V..............Nani
.........Rooney

Looking forward to this game. Went to Lisbon in September and had an amazing time, I'll be extremely welcoming to any Benfica fans visiting our city on Tuesday :D

Fábio Ferdinand Evans Evra

Nani Rooney Young

Just go for it. Win this and pretty much win the group. As mentioned above, we can rely on the same core of players to play Benfica and Newcastle, then we can rest players against Crystal Palace and Basel either side of the trip to Villa Park.

SUBS: Lindegaard, Fabio, Smalling, Nani, Park, Fletcher, Hernandez.

Think we'll see Welbeck on Saturday.

I think it will be this team:

Subs:
Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Fabio, Fletcher, Nani, Berbatov, Welbeck

Why have you all got Evans playing? Is Rafael injured? I would rather have this back four.

Rafael Rio Jones Evra

Or Smalling instead of Jones but not Evans.

Smalling is injured last I heard and I doubt Rio can play 2 games in such quick succession. That's probably why.

Smalling is meant to be back for Tuesday I think. Bit of a dilemma with Rio as Vidic is suspended. I'd be tempted to play him on Tuesday and then possibly rest him at weekend, rather than the other way around.

Evans scares me, I wish he could rediscover his 08-10 form.

Big game this, can't afford to screw it up with Basle away as our final fixture. Play the strongest team possible please SAF.

Strongest team we can pick, dont leave it to the Basel away game, i dont know why the goals has dried up after the start we had.

Easy - we're not confident enough to be passing the ball quickly enough through the midfield.

There's a thread for injuries.

Manchester United
D Welbeck Muscle Strain 26th Nov 11
M Owen Thigh Muscle Strain 27th Dec 11
T Cleverley Ankle/Foot Injury no return date
C Smalling Ankle/Foot Injury 3rd Dec 11
T Bebe ACL Knee Injury Feb 12

This is on my birthday which means we will get beat.

Just letting y'all know not to bother watching it.

Rooney absent. Smalling and Welbeck training away from main group.

Jonny Evans also missing from #MUFC training session.

:(

Morrison, Fryers and Petrucci training with squad today

 it might not actually mean anything in the big scheme of things but the thought of Morrison on the bench makes me excited. And Fryers and Petrucci too

Anderson also not training, is he injured?

10:51 So as you can see from the list below, Wayne Rooney is among the players not training this morning - or at least, he's not taking part in the session that's open to the media. The same goes for Jonny Evans and Anderson, as well as the two players who were last week ruled out until Christmas - Tom Cleverley and Michael Owen
