Anderson

Gibbo is still around. I just can't seem to understand why we are having so many injuries in the last few seasons.

Especially as there's been massive rotation throughout the last four seasons.

Then again, Anderson getting injured is no surprise, he's always been an injury-prone player from day one. Same with Cleverley. Others are luckier: look at Evra, he basically plays every game, when was the last time he was injured for any significant amount of time?

Awful news. With Cleverley still out until Christmas does anybody expect Morrison or Pogba on the bench tomorrow? I don't think they're ready just yet. Atleast Gibson is back.

They don't have to. He's not in our plans. He knows that.

He can certainly do a job in midfield for us considering how limited our options are.

He's been injured since the start of the season and has only just returned... he was on the bench against Benfica on Tuesday night.

I think with the fixtures piling up we are going to see a lot more of him.

I'd imagine he might come in, only if there's no chance Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs or Park can play. Even Rooney's a head of him in the pecking order.

I very much hope it won't come to playing Darron Gibson again. I'd rather Park or Rooney played CM.

Has he not been injured all season?

He's back now, but his injury is the main reason he's still at the club. That, and apparently his refusal to lower his wages. He's not in Ferguson's plans at all, think we all know that. Though he may come in as a stop-gap with recent injuries and lack of form.

Actually, how funny would it be if he came back and everything clicked and he was brilliant?

Horrible news for Anderson, so now we've lost our two starting center mids from the start of the season. If anything happes to Carrick or Fletcher we are in trouble.

This could be Morrisons or Pogbas big chance to make a impression in the first team.

Yeah I think we probably will too... might not be a bad thing though, he's got a lot to prove for us, and he's got the extra motivation of making it into Trap's Ireland squad for the Euros.

Considering he was on the bench in the last game, that's just not true at all.

Another knee injury, wow. It's going to be immensely difficult for Anderson to come back for me, his play relies on his dynamic stature without that he lack the consistency of technique to fall back on. That could we be that for Anderson here, I hope he proves me wrong though. It's just for someone so young he's had an awful lot of knee injuries and after a while they all add up.

Not the first time I've heard this levelled at Gibson... but from what I understand, it was Sunderland who offered Gibson a contract, then reduced their initial offer after they signed Gardner.

In fact, SAF himself alluded to pretty much the same story.

SAF said:
"He was at the point of going to Sunderland and somewhere along the line, I don't know exactly when, I think Sunderland moved the goalposts," said Ferguson.

"I suppose their job is to try and save money.

"From what I can gather, they gave him an offer and then changed it. That annoyed Darren and I think he's quite right.

"If you can't trust them on day one why wait until day two?"

You reckon he'd be on the bench had we not had Anderson and Cleverley injured?

That's not the point... the point is you said "He's not in Ferguson's plans at all" ... and by the fact that he made the bench shortly after his return from injury suggests otherwise.

Ultimately, if he wasn't in Fergie's plans... Pogba or another youngster would have been on that bench before him.

We'll agree to disagree, only an injury crisis has resurfaced Gibson. Otherwise he'd be still playing with the reserves in my opinion.

I hope atleast one of them is given a decent chance this season, since we are not going to buy any midfielder this year it looks like - might as well give the youth a chance to prove themselves.

That's the problem though, isn't it? He's going to have to wait at least another 3 months to be able to prove us all wrong again. I'm getting a bit fed up having to be proved wrong, and that he actually does have the ability and consistency to make it at United. I know it's not his fault that he keep getting injured, but he is a confidence player, and these constant injuries can only do damage to his confidence.

Is Ferguson prepared to wait possibly another season for Anderson to prove to him that he's got what it takes? You couldn't blame him for selling him in the summer, that is of course saying that he comes back from injury in Feb and, inevitabley takes a while to get his fitness back, then takes another while to find his form (if he even does show his early-season form again by the end of the season).

Do you think thats down to training methods or having injury prone players (or just bad luck)?

It probably is down to training methods. We may push our players that extra 1-2% harder than the other teams and in turn suffer from the injuries that can lead to.

It also leads to 4 Premierships out of the last 5 and 3 European Finals out of the last 4....

Maybe the fact he is overweight isnt helping his injuries.

He doesnt exactly look in prime physical condition

I bet his BMI is very low. He's just more solid build than whippets like Nani or Hernandez. He's like Rooney with a booty.

In the games before he was injured he was still pushing hard from the 80th minute onwards and you don't have the explosive bursts of pace he has while carrying a bit of chubb.

If he is out for 3 months this looks like an MCL strain or possible PCL injury. Fabregas had an MCL strain / tear and was out for 4 months.

If he can get by without an operation and its an MCL strain then I am confident he will return the same as before. Operations on the MCL are really the last option as they have some serious downsides.

As to his general fitness - if he was not making the grade in training SAF would have not played him. I think for him personally he needs to re-asses why he is getting these injuries is it just bad luck or his style of play?

In either case if he is extra fit and strong and leaner then it does help. Essinen and Anderson can't seem to catch a lucky break.

Terrible news and I wish a prompt recovery for Anderson. Our young players have been generally unlucky with injuries tbh (Welbeck,Cleverley,Anderson,Rafael,Fabio).
It makes it even more frustrating that a midfielder wasn't bought last summer.

If that is the case, I don't wanna hear any moaning about injuries!

There isn't obviously a single or a main reason for injuries. Each case, some players are just purely unlucky, some work too hard and the style of some can provoke some injuries (for instance muscle injuries)
