Berbatov | Fulham player

As of today there's no doubt (IMO) that Berba is the superior player to Danny but SAF obviously sees (and we all do) a great talent in him. It's a tough job satisfying everyone and developing the younger players

Berbatov probably is a better player than Welbeck and would probably be chosen ahead of him for the majority of teams in the league.

However, Danny has superior movement, speed and work-rate. And that gels better with what our other attacking players (namely Rooney and Nani) bring to the team, and ultimately it's about what is best for the team.

As of today really?

Beck has never been a better player, thought everyone knew that.

No one doubts Berba's talent, it's how good a fit he is for us/Rooney that has been debated.

And... Berba has been scoring for fun against cannon fodder since he arrived, no change there.

I agree, I think this is a big development year for this team. Getting Chicharito and Welbeck up to speed and rounding off their games, getting Smalling and Evans another year of crucial experience defending. And of course I think Cleverley and Anderson were supposed to continue their early run and get every chance to nail down the starting sport for their own.

But good things come from the chaos. Carrick is back and playing as well as he ever had, which is a joy to watch. Jonesy would never have gotten the chance to show how much he has to offer, especially in midfield, without so many injuries.

Berbatov hasn't looked very assured in his previous starts, but more than that I think Fergie is very interested in developing Danny's game, even if Berba is a better striker at the moment.

There is a substantial difference in battering Wigan at home where the pressure is off than coming on with twenty minutes to go away from home in April when you need a goal.

Most people recognize that and for the very situation, would rather opt for Hernandez over Berba. There's a different point up for debate here though.

As much as I love Danny and wants him to start the next game, Berba's too good to be kept on the bench. Should be ahead of Hernandez for now

His history for us has proven that this is not the case. He's an excellent player for our squad, but he certainly isn't "too good" for anything.

Bizarre that a hat-trick against a 10 man Wigan brings about this reaction. Has no-one watched his United career?

No shit, but how is that relevant to all this?

I watched him bang in 21 goals last season including match winning goals and a hattrick against our rivals.

And the rest of those goals that weren't against an out of sorts scouse team?

Similar to today yes?

A cracking player for our squad, certainly not too good to be on our bench, because if he was.... well, he wouldn't be on the bloody bench.

Looking forward to all the outrage by Randall, Sharky and rest if Berbatov didn't start the next match after scoring a hattrick.
I'm expecting the same level of outrage when Tevez didn't start the next match after 4 goals against Blackburn.

Look back in the thread KM, I said that I would stick up for Berba if he scores a hat-trick and doesn't get played in the next game, I'm a firm believer of earning the shirt and I think he's done that today.

And it'll be difficult to judge my "level of outrage" considering I wasn't on the caf at the time Tevez scored those goals against Blackburn.

I forgot he was our top scorer last season and scored a hatrick against our greatest rivals. Anyway on current form he may well start. We shall see what happens.
Ok, Liverpool at home last season. Is that all?

Well it does matter seeing as he hasn't started many recently.
It doesn't matter, he doesn't give us any advantage against top teams. He's invisible.

It's good to see him scoring thee goals, but I really don't think it means he's better for us than Welbeck or Hernandez. We knew he's a good player, but he hasn't played too much this season, because we're stronger without him.

He played well today and goals can only bring confidence. The question still remains is he a better foil/partner to rooney than currently Welbeck - who SAF seems to be preferring?

He's exactly where he should be. Starting against lower teams and banging them in. That's what we need from him. He's now a squad player.

He won't be starting against top teams, so all is well.

He might be 15th in our striker pecking order but at least he continues to prove that he is a world class striker that will score goals. Even though it is against Wigan, he has shown that he will score for fun given the chances.

I reckon Welbeck would fit into most other attacks far better than Berbatov. Anyone that wants to argue Berbatov is the better player has to ignore all the physical sides to the game, in which Welbeck is superior. Berbatov has a silky first touch but Welbeck has a very good one himself. I'd say Welbeck is better at one touch football too as Berbatov always wants to take a few touches and slow down play.

Very soon everyone will regard Welbeck as the better all round footballer. Most do already I believe.

Sorry but have to disagree, Welbeck's touch at times lets him down, but will no doubt improve with age.

Berba's touch cannot be blamed for 'slowing the game down' ... That is surely down to vision/passing rather than his first touch which in my opinion is second to none

Berba's touch AND vision is second to none. If he has a better alternative to pass to, he'll
do just that at least 90% of the time.

10 man Wigan or not, credit where credit's due. Well fecking done Berba.

Why are some saying it's "only Wigan"? You still have to put the goals past them and it's not like Chicharito similarly covered himself in glory today against them.

No.

Berba's contributions constantly get downplayed.

It was 10 men Wigan, of course we "downplay" it. At 11 v 11 it was 1-0, with Park as the scorer.

The entire reason Berba and Hernandez started today and Rooney was rested was because it is Wigan.

Doesn't change me putting Berba as my MOTM and hoping that he gets a chance to do the same against Blackburn. But you obviously have to put things into perspective.

I thought all three goals were brilliantly taken.

Impressive to come straight into the side like this, and fire 4 goals in just over a game. Makes selecting interesting the nest couple of matches for SAF!

Chicharito *cringes* is the fans darling so he if he would had gotten a hattrick you'd never see fans downplay it like when Berbatov scores them.

It was 10 men Wigan, pure cannon fodder. Of course it has to be put into perspective. You have to think, had Rooney or Welbeck played would it have been any different.

And yes, it really wasn't Hernandez' day, that's neither here nor there.

As I've said many times, I'd love Berba to play against Blackburn and Newcastle and be brilliant in both. However, my biggest issue with Berba has always been the partnership with Rooney, I just think we have better partnerships despite these 2 obviously being the 2 most "talented" forwards.

Honestly, I think this is garbage.

If Chicharito scored a hat trick today, I very much doubt fans would be on here claiming "this proves he's a better player than Welbeck" or "this proves he's too good to be on the bench", had posters done that, I'm sure they also would've been met with similar reactions.

Just breath and think for a second, we've been on an excellent run with Rooney and Welbeck starting. SAF RESTED them today because it was Wigan at home, perspective is needed.

Is his face. No matter what he does you're very quick to 'put things into perspective', in a way you're not if it's Welbeck, Hernandez or Rooney.
