Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

i agree that United should do something as a team now in a show of rejection of racism. T-shirts are probably off the table considering Liverpool's debacle, but a big fund raiser or something would be nice.

I'm glad we haven't done anything like that yet, Liverpool fans would just think we're trying to get one over on them and inflame the mood around the incident. But now that things will be calming down, we really show make some sort of contribution to the cause of eliminating racism.

We dont need to do anything. It will just make it worse if we do. The scumbags are already incited enough. If we do something then it's really going to be viewed as MUFC v LFC and nobody wants that....

But it's not about Liverpool v United, and we've never seen it that way. This is a serious issue, I don't think we should stand by and take no action just because Liverpool fans will get upset. They're being completely irrational, not acting out of fear is the wrong choice, for me.

Now, if someone who knows more about PR than me says there's no point, the issue already got all the attention it would, that's fine. But the message of anti-racism has been lost a bit by all of this Liverpool distraction, imo.

I can't see this being the end. The press reaction tonight and tomorrow to Liverpool and Suarez's statements and Dalglish's press conference should be scathing. Surely the FA will have something to say?

Heads are going to roll at Anfield over this mark my words. The Americans are going to distance themselves big time. This stories going to dominate the worlds media tomorrow and KK is writing his obituary as we speak. That press conference was shameful.

I give up. This is too much bollocks for me. As if the they haven't been feeding the conspiracy enough they dangle a 'we know the real truth' in front of their fans.

They should be brought to task over this.

That reporter was bang on. What's the harm in ranting the "truth" after the fact? None. Tell all if you have cause to. Why not? There is no truth is why not. It's just yet more bollocks gestures towards their obsessive fans to incite yet more conspiracy theories rather than admit there's any ground to be lost.

It's pathetic, they actually should be charged for bringing the game into disrepute for it. If there's a truth, say it, if not, concede. You can't have it both ways, which is what they're ridiculously trying to do.

My point is we already have the Kick it out campaign. Why should we react to what liverpool is doing? I honestly think we're going to go about our business as we have already. The farthest we will go is probably have Fergie say something and that be the end of it. Liverpool are writing their own demise. Let them rot.

The issue has not been lost. In fact, it's been intensified.

gooDevil, I'm really curious as to why we need to do something. What will it accomplish? Racism is a serious issue but wearing shirts or some type of symbol isn't really going to accomplish anything right now. Is there any incentive for us to act? Let the attention remain on Liverpool. In terms of PR, it'd be better off if every club did something but you wont see that happening.

The less we do the better we look. I don't know how many liverpool fans realise this, but the more stubborn & tribal they get, the more they make Utd look good. To the neutral - who hate us anyway by default - we're the stoic dignified victims whilst they're the bitter obsessive stubborn children....It's the complete opposite portrayal to what they want, and it's all their own fault...Leave them to it.

Yep, at the very best it's damn cowardly.

Ja. Even the FA - most people's perennial whipping boys - have gained respect; that says it all.

My sentiments exactly. Honestly, I just want to see that injury list of ours start to decline.

The small statement of Evra being a credible witness was the nail in the coffin for the scousers.

I'm pretty sure Fergie won't speak about the incident again. It's done and dusted for us. For them guys it will just continue to be mentioned by Journos and others due to their obscene statements and plain right ignorance throughout the case . It will surely have an adverse effect on their season.

Well played to the reporter in that transcript for having the balls to ask those questions.

And by that I mean he/she actually chose to find out real opinions rather than making them up and speculating...

True; but will Evra want his say now?

We should say no more. It's done and the punishment has been served. If Liverpool want to continue to make themselves look like bitter and unapologetic fools, then so be it.

Dalglish: "It's up to the club to decide what they want to do."

So Kenny couldn't take this further than he wanted to I believe? Perhaps the owners intervened.

True; but will Evra want his say now?

What more does he need to say? Based on the FA report, he doesn't need to say anything else. Justice is served. He cleared the air. He even helped out Suarez by saying he doesn't think that Luis is racist. He even said to Canal+ that he didn't want to talk about what happened on that day. If I was in Evra's position, I'd be quite satisfied. I'm sure he's just focusing on the football as everyone else should be.

His cost of speaking out is higher than his benefit. In other words, he has nothing to gain. We move on.

I'm guessing it was a few different reporters.

It really doesn't reflect well on Kenny at all. He's come out looking as bad, if not worse than Suarez.

Agree with those saying we should just do absolutely nothing.

I hope you are right but I think it unrealistic. Evra will be plagued with questions on the subject, I think he will respond.

his reactions seem to indicate he is not handling this well at all. Perhaps there is something to the thinking that he is a quitter.

I had always given him the benefit of the doubt.

I do feel sorry for the man tarnishing his reputation like this. Heck he is the best player Liverpool have had....

sad.

Just missing "sticks and stones can break my bones" to really complete the childish attitude.

No mention of distancing their club from being associated with the vile racism being spewed on Twitter and Facebook and the like? I guess people like Stan Collymore didn't toe the line though, so he can deal with that himself.

Hmmm.

In all seriousness, Kenny has had some horrific things happen to him as Liverpool manager which would surely effect anyman. Literally horrible disgusting things that will scar him for life. If this is true, I hope it's nothing serious.
I didn't get this.

I didn't get this.

I don't know how much weight to put into the drinking thing, but kennys hatred towards certain members of the press will certainly have come from the horrific response to hillsbrough. He has every right to be a dick to the press if he wants after that, I just can't get my head around what's happening now.

Reporter: "You think there is an agenda against Liverpool?"

Dalglish: "No. You said that. I never. You get yourself in trouble, I'm all right."

For feck's sake, is he never going to give up on this smart-arsed 12-year-old schtick?

No is the answer. He was a fantastic player who transfered instantly into a successful manager. He hasn't ever had to deal with a humbling scenario, and when he has (at Newcastle for example) he's pissed off and taken a long sabbatical. He came back to Liverpool because he was guarenteed a King's welcome (and deservedly so) but the second people start to point out his faults he can't handle it. It's pure ego. I'm sure SAF would feel similarly if put in such a situation, but the difference is SAF has rolled with the punches & stayed in the game for 30 odd years whilst Kenny's been absent and so has thicker skin, a better grasp of public perception and isn't an out of touch dinosaur.

Kenny sounds more and more like a man frustrated by the fact he can't click his fingers for respect anymore. A respect he's earned at Liverpool, but which everyone else doesn't give two shits about. And it's that insular thinking that's obscuring his objectivity. He has a choice between playing to the gallery, or objectively looking at how he's perceived to the modern world, and he's chosen the gallery, cos it's safer.

I'd also like to say that I think the "Racist Bastard" chant we have is shit. It doesn't sit right with me.

I love it, it's awesome, and singing it to 'his' tune really rubs it in.

We should say no more. It's done and the punishment has been served. If Liverpool want to continue to make themselves look like bitter and unapologetic fools, then so be it.

I didn't realise we 'd said anything?

We have a lot of players on twitter, and I can assume Fergie's issued strict orders not to mention it. The club's looked good on this.

Let's collectively ignore a high-profile and spectacular case involving Liverpool and United with new developments appearing almost every single day? Right.

It's a settled case, he got what he deserved. Do we want to remind ourselves about racism everytime we log on?

Reporter: "OK, if a player calls someone 'negro' [Spanish pronunciation], surely the player who takes offence deserves an apology?"

Dalglish: "Ask a linguistic expert, which certainly I am not. They will tell you that the part of the country in Uruguay where he [Luis Suárez] comes from, it is perfectly acceptable. His wife calls him that and I don't think he is offended by her. We have made a statement and I think it is there for everybody to read. Luis has made a brilliant statement and we will stand by him."
Funny, the report did ask two linguistic experts, who considered it racist. And his wife doesn't call him that, that's negrito, negro specifically refers to someone black. Barefaced lie from Kenny. For a club rightly set on getting the truth in another case they seem perfectly content to tell lies to suit themselves in this one.

I'm a little confused as to how Kenny knows what someone's wife calls their husband.

Is he a peeping Tom?

I am quite worried about this United Liverpool match now.

It is their cup final this season, moreso than ever before.

Gonna be a nasty match, and I would really hate to come out on the losing side.

When you hit rock bottom keep on digging Kenny you utter gimp.

While United have done the right thing so far, I think 'that disgusting club' should be forced to apologize to Evra. Maybe Evra should go after them for posting libelous stuff about him. I am not sure. I think going after them will make them go completely over the edge and having to retract their statement.

That's remarkable. Unusual for a press conference to be transcribed like that.

Very unusual. Damn smart journalism in this case to write everything down what everyone says and simply post that. He either only did that or it was a collaboration of some sort. Given that his own name isn't mentioned anywhere I think he wrote it down himself.

I've been to this before and I'm surprised the PR guy didn't stop this completely. I mean he tried too but he should have done more (from Liverpool's perspective). But then again they gave out these statements and what not.

I'm really not surprised that Kenny didn't see the sense in pulling the 'no comment' card or simply walk out. He doesn't seem to have the smarts to think that.

Based on his public character I wonder how he is in the dressing room (no homo). Is this a guy that gives out hairdryers or inspirational talks? I'm sure he knows football but his skills as a manager seem as limited as mine as a Football Manager.
