Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

Isn't it going to look incredibly daft if Liverpool football club now ban a fan because an opposition player claims he might have said something racist?

Liverpool are just defending their best player who said something really stupid. I disagree with what they did and they have proven the world what we've been saying about them all along. However I can see a club or two trying to shield their best players when they are in shit.

Yes it will, but it won't deter King Kenny and co from wearing T-shirts with that fan's picture at the next match warm-up. "Let's' not allow a Liverpool fan walk alone!"

But he's not an employee they've invested millions in...just a guess.it's a bit easier cutting loose someone who's not going to cost you money long term....cynical but true

If the guy's caught out being racist then it's obviously the right thing to do, but the problem is LFC have spent the last two months furiously claiming that it's the wrong thing to do...changing their minds when there's suddenly not a £30m asset involved is just going to make them look even worse.

You can't make your bed and then refuse to lie in it.

Merseyside Police @MerseyPolice
A 20 year old Aintree man has been arrested tonight on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence following Friday's game.

Oh I agree with you completely. However.....if Im meant to be a bit of devil's advocate, its all FIFA/UEFA/EU fault. Footballers has got so many rights these days and they cost so much that one can't take the risks of pissing them off too lightly and sometimes managers have to close an eye to misconduct

What I feel Liverpool did which made the thing so wrong is defending the player so furiously. That's in my opinion over the top.

I don´t think Liverpool FC has any more racism in their fanbase than the average PL club. They probably have less than most to be fair.

They do have a ´tired and emotional´ manager who has put the clubs reputation in a bad place though.

Is correct.

If a fan is charged with racial abuse can he put forward the defence that his actions were influenced by the club and in particular the manager's stance? It would bring the club into further disrepute

Saying that the person arrested should get the book thrown at him/banned from the club if he is found to have said something racist. Not saying thats wrong but hate their double-standards.

Went to the WBA vs. Cardiff game earlier, and got a match programme. Inside, they had a column written by Tom Ross of BRMB/Beacon/Gold where he spoke about the Luis Suarez business. I think some of you might like to read it, getting a view from a fairly neutral perspective, so I'll type it out here:

Can I start by wishing every single Baggies fan a very happy new year - 2012 promises to be a good year for the club. Roy is an extremely good manager and I hope he will persuaded to sign a new long term deal so he can finish the job he has started.

Like a lot of Albion supporters, I grew up in an era when Liverpool were the biggest and most successful team around. They always showed class on and off the park. Sadly, even though they are still a huge club, they have showed that they lack that class over the way they have reacted to and handled the Luis Suarez affair. According to the evidence presented by the FA, Uruguayan Suarez behaved in a racist manner towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra. Whether that makes him a racist is another argument for another day, but what he said was reprehensible and he most definitely deserves the eight game ban and £40k fine handed out by the FA.

I remember how Albion was one of the first clubs to sign black players and boy, what a trio of top class players they brought to the club in Cyrille Regis, Brendon Batson and the mercurial Laurie Cunningham. They suffered plenty of racist abuse and thankfully we are now in an era where so much has been done to stamp out racism, with both Regis and Batson playing key roles to promote that campaign. They must be angry and hurt to see once great Liverpool take such a backward step in the way they have backed Suarez.

They players, apparently with the permission of manager Kenny Dalglish, decided to wear t-shirts supporting Suarez. That was nothing short of disgraceful, and has tarnished the great name of the club and, in my opinion, harmed the "Kick It Out" campaign. How defender Glen Johnson could support him is beyond belief.

Suarez is without doubt an extremely talented footballer but trouble is attracted to him like a magnet. While playing in the Dutch League in 2010 he was banned for seven games for biting a PSV player on the shoulder. In the World Cup he handled the ball on the line which prevented Ghana from equalising. Ghana missed the penalty and the world saw Suarez celebrating on the touchline.

Kenny Dalglish is one of the greatest strikers the UK has ever produced; sadly he has also tarnished his own reputation by defending the indefensible Suarez.

He should have said from the outset that he did not accept Suarez's behaviour and that Liverpool FC would not tolerate it. But Dalglish and the Liverpool players have behaved as though Suarez was the victim and not the guilty one.

It's a shameful time in Liverpool's proud history, but more importantly, it has harmed the game, and in particular the campaign to rid the game of racism.

Kick It Out Chariman Lord Hermon Ouseley, and ambassadors Earl Barrett, Paul Elliot and Garth Crooks, should be knocking on the door at Anfield to ask for an explanation and apology.

It's interesting that each club has a representative for the Kick It Out campaign. Liverpool's is Martin Kelly, a 21 year old who has only played 15 games since 2008. That says it all.

This guy must of said something really bad to get the player in tears , he must of heard some vile thing said to him has a pro footballer

Glad they have arrested some idiot and from Aintree and not a manc has some idiot posted on facebook.

a link to that please? thx

I can't actually link to the match programme. It's not on the internet.

What relevance does the last line actually have?

My guess is that a young, white footballer, relatively inexperienced is hardly going to be opposed to the club line in all this.He has his career to think about and if he in any way was seen to oppose the t-shirt fiasco, for example, he'd be out of Anfield

Suppose so.

Worth noting Oldham have nominated their entire first team as ambassadors (as have Wigan).

Interesting isn't it?

You could see Liverpool saying, ' hey guys, this Kick it whatever it's called'.

'Who shall we appoint?'

'How about Kelly? He doesn't have much to do right now'

Kelly: 'Ok, what's it entail?'

'How the feck do we know? We just need a name on a form'

Yeah Kenny's a bit of a twat letting Mr Nobody walk alone, when he went to all that fuss with Suarez. Double standards and all. Seems you have to be a millionaire to get the T shirt treatment, whereas if you're just some punter in the crowd, your out on your arse....walking through the storm, not holding your head up high

It really does look this way. I thought this wholly depressing mess was Dalgliesh's disgusting attempt at deflecting attention from his own shortcomings but there really does seem to be a resistance at club level to genuinely get involved in moving out of the 1980s.

I'm getting sick thinking about this topic now...as a club they're an effin two faced bunch of racists both on the pitch and off as well as a large number of their fans being so too. They're an effin disgrace. They look bloody stupid to me and appear like those Hick police officers in Mississippi Burning.

Sorry for the rant!

I cant argue with that point! Kenny has tarnished his and the clubs reputation IMO

I now know what I'm going to do with my evening. Quality movie.

I know a Liverpool fan who is still saying that Suarez is completely innocent. Common sense won't work with this guy. So just need a quick rundown of arguments to use now, links to what the FA said etc to comprehensively crush this idiot.

Thanks.
