Chelsea vs Manchester United

If that Chelsea-team starts, I'll say we'll smash them if we go out and have a go. Following side please:

De Gea
Rafael-Smalling-Rio-Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Giggs-Nani
Welbeck-Rooney

There's no way Evans won't start.

Probably not, in that case I would've played Rio/Evans with Rafael as the right back.

We need to pin them back and put pressure on their full-backs. Also, their CB's will be put under real scrutiny today.

The Chelsea defence does look shakier than usual, and we should expect some joy down the flanks, but i get the impression many seem to think this game will be a cakewalk.

Sturridge, Torres and Mata are going to be a handful for our defence too, with their pace they will always be a threat on the counter and from long balls. Essien being back will be a boost too, still one of the best all round midfielders about when fit imo.

I get the feeling Chelsea may sit back a bit more than usual, and try to hit us on the counter. It will probably be their best chance of winning imo. I cannot see them getting a result by giving us the opportunity to counter attack them and let our wingers go one on one with the full backs. I see them doubling up on the flanks and then breaking quickly through the middle where we have the least pace.

Hope Welbeck plays, with our wingers i think we need an aerial threat, especially with Terry being out. As others have said it should be a pretty open and free flowing game, and i am confident we can get a win today, but i also expect Chelsea's forward line to cause our defence some problems along the way. We have had a habit of playing fairly well at SB in the last few seasons, yet coming away disappointed, let's hope we have better luck today!

Is he? If true then that's a big bonus for us. Only guy in their midfield that concerns me with his capacity to drive forwards.

No concerns about Essien then? I think Ramires gets into better goalscoring positions, but with him out i would say Lamps will probably play, and he presents as big a goalscoring threat as any of their strikers.

Both attacks look likely to cause the opposing defences problems today, and i think Chelsea will be up for this, with nothing to lose really. Hoping for a great game and for us to come out on top 2-3.

who's the ref? .... Anyway he cant be worse than atkinson

Considering Chelsea are missing a fair few key players and there is snow outside their windows, they probably seriously considered tried to get this game suspended. If it was snowing early on Saturday/late Friday I'm sure they'd have done it.

I do not want us to play to their pace, we need to play to our strengths and pace. Chelsea won't be able to cope if we attack them fast down the wings and keep the pressure on them by pressing when we don't have the ball and frustrating them when we do. If Mata and co is given time on the ball then it could be a long game.

Well I don't expect Essien to play so no worries there. Lamps is a threat but he doesn't concern me in the same way Ramires does. In recent times I've thought we've been susceptible to midfield runners as some of the players like Ando, Giggs or scholes are either not particularly good trackers or don't thave the legs.

I dunno I don't want to tempt fate but I'm not overly concerned with their attack provided our players are switched on. At OT I thought their main chances came because of our defensive lapses at the back and in the middle more than it came as a result of their attack out doing our defence.

That's a relief...

Fergie pacing around the dressing room with a laptop, looking in vain for advice on the team from RedCafe.

"fecked if I know who to pick without Pexbos advice.
Umm, Richie De Laet, you´re playing centre forward...."

I would think Nani will be on the bench.

I would think Nani will be on the bench.

I hope not, unless he's still not fully fit. If he is fit though I'd throw him in from the start. I like Park but I think today we need to get at chelsea from the start, we can't let them try and make this a slow match which I think they will and having Nani out there will give us something extra. Also I'm sure ivanovic won't be looking forward to playing against Nani again.

If Nani is fit, he should start on the left with Valencia on the right. Easy choice for me.

I'd have to agree that the wingers are going to be key for us today. If we can get the ball to Valencia constantly, he's bound to trouble their left back, whoever that will be.

Cleverley and Young starting.

You heard it hear first, I'm (n)itk

I agree to an extent but the safest option seems to be Bosingwa and Ivanovic as the two fullbacks, which leaves Luiz and Cahill as the two centre backs. With the form Valencia's in he'll definitely be a danger but that looks a really soft centre to me, can see us taking advantage of that more than anything.

Exactly. We can safely assume that they'll be doing their best to take Valencia out the game by having a couple of people on him, but in doing so will hopefully leave Nani (assuming he starts) or someone a bit free. I cannot see AVB allowing Valencia to go one on one with their left back for the day, he knows that will (hopefully) not end well for them.

Well that sucks, I guess he'll 'return' in whatever the next reserve fixture is then.
