Athletic Bilbao vs Manchester United

Have to go three in midfield.

De Gea
Rafael Evans Ferdinand Fabio
Carrick Cleverly Giggs
Young Rooney Nani

Haha what a thread. Totally makes me not give a feck if we go out :D

But still, jokes aside:

de Gea
Smalling Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Valencia Giggs Young
Rooney
--
Amos; Rafael, Jones; Scholes, Park; Welbeck, Hernandez

Something like that - want it to be 433 as we just got bossed in midfield last time. I hope Valencia or Nani are fit, I'd maybe start both if so, but Young has been good. Anderson is another I was hoping would be fit but looks like he could be out again, might make the squad if fit though.

Reckon we've got to score three if we want to go through, so Scholes/Welbeck/Hernandez on, depending on if Valencia/Nani start or make the bench perhaps one of them to come on instead.

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Cleverley
Giggs
Young

Rooney

SUBS: Amos, Smalling, Jones, Valencia, Park, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Fergie was only just saying how we're struggling to play Thursday and Sunday. I'd be surprised to see a line up as strong as some are posting. We've not gone full strength so far this competition and I doubt he's going to take this one any more seriously.

I can't see us winning there by two clear goals regardless of what kind of line up we put out.

More like it.

4-4 draw - we'll go 4-0 up inside 20 minutes, then we'll ship a couple before half time, Rafael will get sent off early in the second half, they'll score from the free-kick, we'll all crap our pants for 30 minutes then they'll get the inevitable equaliser

They have rested Martinez, Herrera and Llorente today.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Smalling
CB: Jones
LB: Evra

RM: Young
CM: Cleverley
CM: Giggs
LM: Welbeck

CF: Berbatov
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Amos, Fabio, Evans, Pogba, Park, Nani, Rooney

Hope for the best

Will be interesting to see how we approach this match. Send out the best team and try to win it? Or not giving 2 shits about it and send a reserve team out.

wot's with Anderson?

Not listed anywhere and not on the injured list?

Amos
Rafael
Smalling
Evans
Fabio
Valencia
Cleverley
Pogba
Nani
Berbatov
Hernandez

DDG
Jones
Fryers
Anderson?
Welbeck
Rooney
Young

Rest Evra, Rio, Scholes, Welbeck and Rooney for Wolves. Get Berba on the pitch.

Don't care who the other 9 are as long as those are rested for Wolves.

With Vidic & Smalling out I think we need to go with this team:-

NOt important as the league obviously, but important as momentum for the league. This is why we want to do well. They don't have a good defensive record in La Liga and they don't score that many goals.

So you'd have to expect us to score there. Terrible news about Anderson as pretty sure he would have played in this game.

I don't have much faith. Athletic Club were very good in Manchester, just think how amazing they'll be at their own ground. 2-0 for Athletic Club.

Forecast has rain starting on Friday but should be 70 degrees and sunny until then...Unless the rain arrives early which for some reason seems to always happen at San Mames

Should be a great week of European football

-------------------De Gea----------------------
Rafael---------Jones------Evans-----------Fabio
Nani----------Carrick-----Cleverley--------Young
-------------Berbatov----Chicharito-------------

Subs: Amos, Ferdinand, Scholes, Giggs, Valencia, Welbeck, Rooney.

I've received a report on this thread, because there is already an existing one here and this isn't a forum to feck around in. Naturally, I closed the other one and left this open instead.

Wut? There was already an existing match day thread? And someone actually reported this thread?

 Some people.

I think I've completed a full 360 on the Europa league (or this tie at least); from the initial position of resting all the most important first team players regardless of what that means for the result, to being enraged by how badly Bilbao showed us up at home to the extent that I wanted the full first team to murder them, back to now not wanting to risk anyone more than we have to from the league campaign.

On balance, I'd put out:

De Gea
Rafael---Smalling---Evans---Fabio
Jones
Cleverley---Giggs
Young---Rooney---Park

Bench: Amos, Evra, Carrick, Pogba, Chicharito, Berbatov, Valencia/Nani/Welbeck

Rio wouldn't travel for me - not worth the added stress on him travelling despite the relatively short distance. Scholes also left at home. Carrick, Evra and a few others of that class can travel for the bench, but with the likes of Pogba on there maybe we won't end-up in a position of having to use the seniors. One of Valencia, Welbeck and Nani depending on availability, but I'd keep the others back home rather than risk them having a relapse in their injuries/knocks. Smalling is a difficult one as we can't really not use him if Rio is to be rested; Jones at centre-back isn't a great option for us at this stage of his career. Also no idea what the state of Anderson is. Cleverley needs a start.

On the other hand Rooney and Young are in very good form so I'd risk them to keep that form ticking-over. Tough on Berba, whom I desperately want to see get some game-time but it has to be 4-3-3 for me to even bother playing this fixture, which eliminates Berba as he can't really play the lone frontman that effectively.

All that said I expect Fergie will go the usual 4-4-2 type formation we have played this season, with many more first-players involved. I just hope that doesn't cost us against Wolves on Sunday.

Just stick in Chicharo and Berba for Rooney and Young.

I'm not sure people realise how important the Wolves game is. We need to keep them under pressure as they have the Chelsea and Stoke games before we play again. Dropping points at Wolves would be a monumental feckup.

I was counting on 4 points dropped from the next three fixtures, three down, six to go :D

Bang on.

Lindegaard is still injuried, isnt he? Not that anything in that lineup makes any sense though.

I would rest or bench -Rooney, Welbeck, Carrick, Young, Ferdinand, Evra

DDG
Rafael Evans Jones Fabio
Pogba Cleverly Giggs
Park Berbatov Nani

* assume Valencia and Anderson are unfit
