How will the refs respond to the weekend? Wigan got robbed, we were helped. Hopefully it won't affect the match but I'm a bit worried after the kind of performance they've just shown us.

They dont start off with any agenda. They'll do their job.
If all 3 had the same ref, it couldve affected him.. In this case, it really shouldnt

I don't think they have an agenda at all it's just that they are human and these things stick to your subconscious. They are creatures who try and find the middle ground too much sometimes.

Will we finally rest Rio? It's hard to say, I think he could do it, but you also have to think we can handle Wigan without him and he would benefit from the rest. I'm putting him in because that's what my gut says. I'll rest Scholes instead.

De Gea
Jones Evans Rio Evra
Carrick Giggs
Valencia Rooney Young
Chicharito

Rafael should probably sit after being a bit off, Welbeck as well. Though Fergie may well want to continue with each in order to get them back into form. He won't be counting any chickens, you can bet your bum.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Evans
CB: Ferdinand
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Giggs
LM: Nani

CF: Rooney
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Amos, Jones, Scholes, Pogba, Cleverley, Young, Welbeck

Couldn't give a monkey's who plays. All about the three points. I'll take a scrappy 1-0 late on happily. Its all about ticking off the points at this stage of the game.

Resting Rio is a good shout actually, even though I'd rather we don't. I'd rather start him and bring on Smalling after an hour if we can be two goals to the good.

I also feel that in recent weeks, Welbeck and Hernandez haven't really been at their best. You could argue Rooney had a poor game against QPR, too, but he's still the one I'd rather start. I can even see us going 433 here, which might actually make it even more of a good shout to rest Rio.

However, I can see nearly the same team playing, with Jones, Giggs, and Hernandez coming in over Rafael, Scholes, and Welbeck. So, what you just posted, gooDevil.. Lol.

Cleverley will get on again and perhaps Nani will replace Young or Valencia at some stage if we can be in a winning position again.

Wigan is always 6 points a season, but I still worry that it'll come to an end one day. Just not now, please.

I'd suggest something more exotic but I don't see SAF messing about at this late date. Young could play behind Rooney up top, Nani on the left.

I thought Scholes would need a rest, but we did get him off early so I really should have him in. Maybe Giggsy will start on the left again.

Considering Scholes was subbed I think he will start.

VDS
Rafael
Evans
Rio
Evra
Valencia
Carrick
Scholes
Giggs
Rooney
Hernandez

2 changes.

Could be a tricky one. God knows that Wigan are due a result!

Rafael-----Ferdinand--------Evans----------Evra
Valencia------Carrick------Scholes--------Young
-------------Rooney-------Welbeck-------------

Subs: Amos, Smalling, Jones, Cleverley, Giggs, Nani, Chicharito.

Hernandez has a pretty good record against them so I'd expect he will start.

De Gea
Jones Smalling Evans Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Nani
Rooney Hernandez

Hopefully Nani is fit, I'd like to see him back.
4-0 win for us, pressure should be off now so I expect us to play with more freedom, less nerves and get another big victory. Rooney 2, Nani and Hernandez with 1 each.

0 - 4

The game will start 1-0 for Wigan..

Even if the refs are against us a bit, we should be alright. Our record against Wigan is incredible. 14-0-0, scored 46 Conceded 4. If we can't be confident for a match like this then we can't be confident for any away match ever again.

We were robbed of a good goal too so it all evens itself up :) I was shocked to notice that even sky forgot our disallowed effort..

I think Wigan, Dave Whelan and co know what needs to be done here :smirk:.
I'm thinking though because Wigan are in a scrap that we agree on making it look like a struggle so they maintain dignity unless city put a few past West Brom, then Wigan will simply have to allow us to score more goals.

Expecting a few changes to be made for this.

Suspect Rio and Scholes will drop to the bench. Smalling and Giggs to start. Nani will start too. And Hernandez.

De Gea
Rafael---Smalling---Evans---Evra
Valencia---Jones---Carrick---Giggs
---Rooney
Chicharito

Bench: Amos, Rio, Fabio, Nani, Scholes, Young, Welbeck

I agree with resting Rio, though I don't think he'd necessarily need it I'd prefer him fresh for Villa at the weekend. With that in mind I've put Jones in place of the also rested Scholes to hopefully add some extra stability; the partnership with Carrick did well earlier in the season. Giggs and Rooney to create, Valencia to bulldoze down the wing as normal, with Chicharito at least creating space between the centrebacks if nothing else. No room for Cleverley or Pogba on my bench sadly, but if Nani can't make it then Cleverley gets his place.

This will be the first game this season that I'll miss (at least the first-half anyway) - I'm sure it'll be a classic in that case :(

^ That's the team I'm expecting.

Don't massively think we'll win this game to be honest. I know we've got breathing space, but this is a tricky fixture.

Is it? Don't we always beat Wigan home and away? Isn't that a running joke on here?
