Wigan Athletic vs Manchester United

It's worrying how much we miss Scholes. Wigan have controlled the game.

Can't do any worse, need Valencia to get on the ball more, Hernandez hasn't even been able to feed off scraps.

3-4-2-1 I think Wigan are playing, if we play our cards right I can see us doing damage. It's important we defend well as unit however as it is more than likely they'll have an extra man in the central areas, keeping the ball well tonight is important. Rooney might have some space to exploit this evening.

See I had misgivings, our wingers are critical to taking advantage of their shape and making them weaker going forward, our wingers have had no joy so far though.

We should have played this like we did the Blackburn match. Played 3 in midfield and controlled the ball to take the sting out of the home side. Set the tone by putting them on the back foot. Instead we've gone with a ridiculously open 4-4-2 and find ourselves rattled. We need to assert control right after the break and I cannot see us doing it without a change in personel and system.

Giggs has been utterly useless but has proven time and time again he can have the qaulity to make or break a game. I'd keep him on for now in a midfield three alongside Cleverley and Carrick. Encoruaging him to get forward. Hernandez has to be the sacrificial lamb. He's been worse than useless. He's been invisible.

Well once Rooney dropped back we looked better defensively, as I have said about a billion times though we need to keep the ball.

Yep. They've been playing the same lineup for a while now, hopefully they'll tire. But that's only if we manage to keep the ball.

Tough to say what we need to change - we haven't seen enough of the ball to even begin to try and impose ourselves on the game.

Surely it cannot be the fact that Scholes is not playing??

I was going to say that Rafael would maybe get forward more than Jones...but very hard to say that given our performance.

Right now we are not posing them any threat at all - so they can afford to push forward.

Am struggling to think of who has had a good game...

Thank god we have Rooney and Young to constantly cover for Evra because the number of times he loses the ball in dangerous positions is a joke.

Whining at every opportunity? Read back through these threads , at 0-0 it's always fecking hysteria.

It's not even half time. Wigan have huffed and puffed and created feck all. We are away from home at a club that plays good football, pulls off some great results and is fighting for survival. The disrespect United fans show is whay everyone fecking hates us.

Plays such good football and pulls off such great results that they have the second least wins in the entire Premier League, and scored the least goals by a margin of 4 goals.

And we're making them look like Barcelona.

How bloody stupid was that backheel, Welbeck done something daft like that last week against Blackburn and Fergie went mental. Wigan are not a good side, but we haven't done anything to even look like scoring.

That's the problem with Giggs at times, he tries too many fancy backheels for my liking.Just keep it simple.
He could have carried on running with the ball but I don't know what he tried to do

Wigan won't be able to play at this pace for 90 minutes. If we're still level by then we'll take them.

Some absolute rubbish being spouted on the radio including someone saying that he didn't think Caldwell even knew where De Gea was because he was facing the other way..

 Jinx of the season?

I'm amazed. I really thought that the shoe would be on the other foot. Us scoring the Wigan goal and I wouldn't be that greatly upset about it considering the last round.

I feel really bad for Wigan. They might end up losing two games in a row and it's really the referees fault. Imagine that. That's horrible for everyone really.

Our midfield isnt working at all with Giggs today. Hes not getting in positions to want the ball, and as a result Carrick is on his own in CM. This leads to Rooney dropping deep, which in turn makes Hernandez extremely isolated.

Giggs needs to get off. That fecking moronic flick attempt at our only real chance sums up his performance. Half arsed.

Cleverley on Giggs off, and maybe even throw Pogba in there as well with Chicha off to make it a 3 man midfield.

Its a shame Scholesy isnt on the bench tonight.

A lovely bottle of Rioja and lamb shank, actually.

I don't like this episode as much...Joffrey's not in it. The Fire Queen is hot though.

Here, feck off to the gay nerds thread if you don't want to watch the football.

Well a defeat will be the result the way things are going, and that would be a disaster psychologically.

How, a 5 point lead with 5 games left is still good any it will most definitely erase and arrogance within the squad.

People said the same thing about Bilbao and I dont see why they wont be able to keep this up they haven't been chasing shadows. They've dominated possession and whenever they've lost it we've given it back fairly cheaply they wont be huffing and puffing after that half.

Caldwell had no other intention than blocking De Gea, he knew exactly where he was.

It's a non-issue, the linesman flagged as soon as Caldwell pushed himself into De Gea. Correct decision.

I actually had to laugh a little when the commentator, early in the match, said "Giggs never wastes a ball". Giggs does a lot of good, but he really does waste the ball a lot when he gets in the "groove".

Yeah a three like that might be worth a shout. It's different to the Blackburn game exause they played with no intention to be the aggressors they wanted to play on the counter. Wigan have committed men forward and as we've seen before we've vulnerable when that happens. This is where you need two proper midfielders. I'm suprised at giggs though he's been a bit naive in this match.

This, I don't think his intent can be denied so I don't understand those who say it's harsh. Are you allowed to purposefully impede the goalkeeper?

No we're not. They are playing well, we are making oursselves look flat; away from home for 45 minutes. Football often takes 90 minutes to work out the right result, a United fan should know that. To suggest any team is incapable of a decent performance without our permission is deluded. They are good players and are capable of the odd great result. If our players had as little respect for the other teams in the league as some of our fans do we'd be fecked.

Wow! What insight. That's why they pay him the big bucks.
