So from reading this thread: if Hazard signs for us, he is signing for a great club with a great tradition, for good money and to win loads of trophies. And we are the most stable.

If he signs for one of the two others (unstable teams) he is a mercenary who cares more about the money. He will barely play anyway and will win very little.

how about we're a bigger club?

Exactly. Thats why he's signing for us.

If Hazard signs for us, he's world class, if he chooses City or Chelsea he's the classic example of modern football's overhyped youngsters whose only concern is to rake in the money before doing anything substantial. And he's not that good anyway.

The juice of it is 'Eden Hazard will announce the name of his next club before next Saturday,' and that Chelsea are supposedly a step ahead of United in the hunt.

Oh and they say it would make much use if he plays behind Rooney.

I don't understand that last line? Sorry, just woke up from the Boxing last night...

The papers either don't know, or only know what they are being fed by, say, an agent. Which could be right and could be a lie to press other clubs to improve offers.

I think the rags are squeezing this for all its worth. More tension about "where will Hazard sign?" will get them more eyeballs on papers and mouseclicks on websites. With the exception of a rare few who may have actually spoken to people at Lille or gotten something out of one of Hazard's family members, I'd venture to guess everything coming out of the media is BS designed to exploit public interest.

I meant to say his preferred position (one where you can get the maximum out of him) is behind the striker, so if he joined United, it would be behind Rooney. However, he can play on the left hand side.

United are the biggest of the three in terms of history

Hazard will probably sign for at least 5 years. Whoever wins the most over the time he plays in England is arguably the biggest club over those particular years. So who is to say who will win the most? O

The first part says:

" Hazard will divulge the name of his next team after next Saturdays match with Belgium against England in Wembley"

They seem to reckon its between us and Chelsea, with Chelsea offering a 5 year contract, and us wishing to keep him until 2016. They reckon city dont want to enter negotiations, and Arsenal came too late or something.

Then it goes on to talk about his stats and all that shite.

The one thing that seems unreliable in that article is that it says that we have agreed to pay him 550k/month net, which would be around 200k.. maybe a bit more.

No ones paying that for Hazard... He'll get 100k max!

I can imagine us playing something like this if we were to get both players:

------------Rooney
Kagawa-----Hazard-----Valencia
------Carrick------Scholes

Yeah, drop Nani and Young and play kagawa out of position.

Same as it ever was.

Agreed, the interest in these players suggests to me that we're trying to build the team around players like Nani. If he hadn't been injured so much this season, I think we would've done so already.

Interesting, City were the favorites a few days ago at about the same rate United is going now. Shows how much variation you get in betting even when there's no new info.

Dont the odds on stuff like this depend on how much people are betting on it? So if I went in and put a million euro on Stoke to sign Hazard, that would put Stoke favourites? Im pretty sure how that works.

We really shouldn't be concerned by this. There are many examples of players who have chosen elsewhere instead of us and the majority of them win less during that period and their decisions look poor.

I think if the lad chooses Chelsea he will regret it.

We're winning our title back next season, with or without this lad. It's the player who'll benefit the most if he joins us, let's not forget that.

The lads not chosing Chelsea though. He's already chosen us.

I wont be surprised if he goes to Chelsea. They've got an ageing midfield + they can pay top salaries.

Bang on Red.

Chelsea is a big club too and have just won the cl. Its not as if he is signing with bolton

But no history, 6 managers in 5 years and propped by a Russian sugar daddy. Oh well.

I prefer someone who invest in the club rather then take money away from it. I agree with you regarding history though however the champions of europe are still an attractive and a big side who provide ample chances of winning important honors

Since when did United offer 4yr contracts to players like Hazard? Surely we would seek to maximise any possible bargaining position by giving him 5 years? I smell BS IMHO.

Yes, that's how it works. It probably wouldn't make them favourites but it would definitely shorten their odds.

These odds on transfers mean absolutely nothing anyway. In the Silva saga a couple of years ago, we were the bookies favourites to sign him for the majority of the summer.
