Shinji Kagawa | Signs for Manchester United

I have kind of fallen in love with the Bundesliga after getting ESPN last year. Kagawa certainly looks to be a class act. You can never account for players changing leagues look at Veron and Shevchenko, but Kagawa looks the business. If the reported price of 12m is correct it would be a superb deal. He reminds me of an Arteta or Nasri style player.

So, have we bought him (Kagawa)? Is it confirmed by the club or is it just rumours again?

Jaap, it would be nice to know how you see him fitting/what he would add, but particularly what he won't. Caf has a tendency to turn players into world class O'Shea's who can strike, create, cross, hold the midfield, etc.

My impression is he wouldn't be suited to be in a 2-man midfield and playing him in the hole with Cleverley behind would make us leak goals like earlier last season. But then, I have only seen about three full games (where I was actually trying to work out how good Goetze was, not him) and a bunch of Youtube clips.

+ is he creative? What about his skill(technique, passing etc) and does he drop deep to win the ball?

Check the video above and see for yourself, you will get the idea of what sort of player he is.

a video clip can never replace the experience of someone who had been watching him regularly.

Considering there is some sort of official confirmation that Kagawa's coming to United, the interest here around this thread is underwhelming. Certainly not on the level of the Hazard thread yesterday and it was pretty obvious he isn't even coming here. A league 2 player called Nick Powell might even generate more interest if he eventually signs

It's clear to see he is very talented but my question is he physically strong enough to play in the EPL?

I'm struggling to remember a player who was deemed "not physically strong enough" for the Premier League. It's the biggest myth ever.

There's been players who haven't been good enough and unlike a player like Carroll, haven't had physical assets to mask these inadequacies, but a player who actually cannot physically compete is just a myth.

Look at the likes of Modric, Silva, Lennon and Walcott, all small and slight and they get on fine. Go back to the more physical years and the likes of Juninho did ok too.

There's no such thing as "not physically strong enough" in football, the League just has a reputation for players who make up their lack of technical skills with strength and people assume strength is a compulsory asset.

I wasn't convinced Mata and Silva would really survive in the PL. They did fine, and the Bundesliga isn't exactly a fairy league. Kagawa's level of technique isn't that far off from the both of them

I'd be very happy with his signing. I won't pretend that I've seen too much of him, but he sounds like a great player for us to have.

Yep, that's the question, I mean, will he be able to do it on a cold, wet Monday night at the Britannia?:nervous:

Strength is important in the PL and all the players who are seen "weak" do work on that aspect of their game (I remember Nasri in his first season at Arsenal specifically) but in the end what separates the average from the good ones is the football itself.

Scholes, Zola, Overmars, Modric, Silva... maybe except Barthez. :)

Scholes and Zola were physically strong, though. I think it's more to do with acclimatising with the pace of the game. Generally if they're fast enough they'll adapt. Probably.

It's more about whether you're up for a bit of physicality and know how to put your body in the right place. Look at Jack Wilshere, he's tiny, not particularly built but he'll give what he gets and always gets his body in the way to shield the ball.

Players who rely purely on evasiveness rarely prosper in England, at least central midfielders and strikers anyway.

Yup. On more physical opponents, Rooney should be optimal option.

Shinji's deadliest when counter attacking and has slightly better pace than Wayne. It was Borussia's trademark last season and it's quite similiar style to United, these days.

This was always the deal that was gonna happen for us, people were deluding themselves thinking that we could compete financially with Chelsea or City for Hazard. 'Competitive' deals are enough to see off most other offers but not from those two, when they have basically unlimited resources.

I'm excited by this though, Kagawa is class. Fitting number 7 for this club.

He wont be number 7.

Always good to make your first signing of the summer.

If we could get a established central midfielder and some type of left back cover I'd happily take that.

Is it actually confirmed that we've signed him?

No. Based on the evidence (that I'm aware of) its reasonable to assume a bid has been accepted. It's also reasonable to assume his personal terms regarding wage demands will not be a major stumbling block.

I'm personally fairly convinced its happening, but until its official anything can happen of course.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has denied that a deal has already been agreed with United over Shinji Kagawa. "The transfer is not yet complete," he told Kicker, although the report adds that the move is said to be on the "home straight" with the clubs broadly in agreement.

looks like we nearly have

Thanks guys, I'll keep the champagne on ice then top not tempt fate.

I'll be delighted if this goes through. Kagawa will be here till he retires and will become a United legend. You heard it here first

Not really, a few people are predicting he will be a fantastic signing - we are aware of his ability.

I'm thrilled about this move honestly. Imo he's 1/2 of what our CM options have been lacking in the last couple of years.

Now bring in a true CM or DM and we're set.
