i'll admit there's not much difference between robinson and carroll, but howard has NO confidence..supposedly he struggled in a reserve team match...robinson's better than that...but i doubt tottenham will sell. they look to be building a nice young squad.

Its Robinsons first season at Tottenham, i too doubt both the team will sell, and Robinson will want to leave. Though the prospect of moving too united could be too great of an opportunity to miss for Robinson as he is still young.

Confident Howard is better then Carroll, imo.

heh asking for a confident howard now is asking for the FA to ever rule any decesion in united's favor......its one of those things that's been shot, and he's not going to regain playing reserve matches, and when he gets into the first team, something fecks up (even if its not his fault wholly) and it shatters his confidence again....

I dont know how someone regains confidence, i suppose Giving him more 1st team matches and having uniteds strongest defence infront of him. Thats my guess, but when he does find that confidence, i definately rate him ahead of Carroll.

That does seem to be the situation he's in these days. I think he'd have to play a number of games as the first team keeper to get his confidence back, with the risk that there are going to be further big clangers along the way.

On the other hand, if we let him go, I can see him getting the run of games that he needs in another side, gaining his confidence back and ultimately being an excellent keeper. And we'd all be thinking we should never have let him go.

UNITED LINE UP TORRES

Exclusive By Simon Mullock

MANCHESTER UNITED will listen to offers for Ruud van Nistelrooy - to generate the funds for a summer swoop for Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-term admirer of the 20-year-old Spanish international striker.

But it will come as a shock that United boss Ferguson is now willing to sacrifice Van Nistelrooy to bring Torres to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman - sidelined since the end of November with an Achilles injury - has scored 112 goals in just 159 appearances for United since arriving from PSV Eindhoven for £19million for July 2001.

Last season Van Nistelrooy publicly commited his future to United after constant speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

He also revealed an ambition to retire from the game as a United player when his current contract expires in three years' time.

Van Nistelrooy has scored 12 goals in 14 appearances during this injury-hit season - but only four of them in the Premiership - and there are fears inside Old Trafford that he must be sold now if United are to make money on the striker.

And United's relationship with Van Nistelrooy's agent, Roger Linse, is also strained after he was spotted with Real officials at the height of speculation regarding the player's future last season.

United see Torres as the perfect replacement. Atletico revealed that they had rejected a £20m offer for the powerful six-footer a year ago and immediately moved to tie him to a contract that extends to the summer of 2008.

That deal also included a buy-out clause reported to be £62m - putting Torres out of the reach of every club apart from Chelsea.

But United have been alerted by comments made by the striker that he is sacrificing the prospect of Champions League football by remaining at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. That has alerted Atletico's bitter rivals Real Madrid and Inter Milan, as well as United. Torres, an Atletico fan all his life, has ruled out moving to Real and insists only Barcelona could keep him in Spain.

And that has given United hope as they look to secure a player who has scored 10 goals in 22 La Liga appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Van Nistelrooy is losing his battle to be fit for United's Champions League showdown with AC Milan on Wednesday week.

He returns to the club on Tuesday after being allowed to recuperate from his Achilles injury in Holland.

United are happy that Van Nistelrooy has recovered fully from the problem, but he will only have seven days to find match fitness for the first leg of the Milan clash. Alan Smith also faces a race against time to declare himself fit.

Ferguson said: "Alan Smith will resume training tomorrow and Ruud will return from Holland on Tuesday.

"We will have to assess Ruud when he comes back to the club, but we are very satisfied with what he has been doing over there."

No quotes, Therefore bullshit article. Ruud will end his career at united, that i believe strongly.

If we'd buy him, it would take a lot of cash (forwards cost a lot) and I don't think Torres would spend over five seasons in England. I doubt Reyes, Ronaldo, Cesc or Alonso will either. I'd rather spend that amount of money on someone who I could trust to be willing to commit to us. If we were to get him on the cheap, however...different story. I'd have him here is a flash. I just don't think it's wise to spend a lot of money on Spaniards.

Don't kill me for this, Weaste!

Give me Ruud anyday of the week. With him we would walk the league this year! (Well, not with him on the trainer's table I guess) ;)

Tell Roman to throw the PLC a 40-50m offer...you'd probably get him then. I'd hate to see Ruud leave, but geez, SAF with 40-50m to spend...could get Adriano, Keane's successor, and Giggs successor in one summer.

Or sign another expensive flop like Veron and a couple failures like Djemba and Kleberson (jury still out on the latter). :nervous:

That said, I'd rather keep Ruud.

I'd be interested to see how this player performs in England.

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has made a shock move for Canadian striker Dwayne de Rosario. (Mirror)
