Anderson

This makes me feel even more doubtful of us signing a new star CM. I reckon Fergie signed Powell, and has decided thats that for midfielders.

That's interesting. I'd always assumed his ACL popped, out of the blue. If his knee was bothering him for a while before it finally went that might explain why his form dipped for a few weeks before he finally got injured.

There's a lot of this that people don't notice, with a lot of players. Anderson, for example, was widely derided for his performance in Rome, and was removed at half time. But a lot of people never seem to have noticed that he broke his foot ten minutes into the match, which admittedly didn't come out until a little while later.

Yes, just like any of the last 5. It hasnt happened yet and i doubt it will happen this season.
Not many players in our team have injury free season, Anderson played 38 matches in 07-08 and 08-09 seasons, 30 in 10-11. I think those numbers in those three seasons weren't bad, he missed one full month (February) in 08-09 and another one (March) in 10-11.

09-10 & 11-12 were disappointing seasons, because he played really well when fit and the endings of those seasons made us think they both were terrible.

I understand what you mean and it's hard to be optimistic about Anderson and his injury free future, but when I read your posts I see that you're a moaner.

Not many players go 5 years without a consistent injury free run, unless they are Owen Hargreaves of course.

I did get excited with Anderson's start to the past season but after a few games with Cleverley in the middle he started to look knackered and incapable of playing simple passes, then guess what he got injured. Our team can't be built around players who struggle to stay fit.

Anderson and Nani owe Fergie big time.

Fergie has been ridiculously patient with both, more so Anderson obviously. It is evident through Fergie's patience that he rates Anderson very highly or he would have been pushed out a long time ago.

Anderson's time to shine is now or never at United.

i think if anderson cost the same as tosic, he would be out on his fat arse a long time ago

Patience or inability to replace him with top quality?

Quality CM cost a bomb + Pogba has gone to Juventus.

Nani has been one of our top performers for almost 3 years now.

Thought the ACL injury was the season before (after which he had that car accident and people were mad at him because he was supposed to be rehabbing instead of being on holiday) and the injury that ended up sidelining him for most part was something else which was never advertised.

Nani and Anderson aren't comparable. I can understand that Nani has perhaps been frustrating at times, but he's certainly come good and despite some inconsistency, he's been a top performer for us, especially in the 2010/2011 season when he was undoubtedly one of our very best players. If he left now, he would be deemed as a successful signing. If Anderson left right now, he would be deemed as a flop to be honest.

The comparison is very generous to Anderson. Nani's a top player.

At the beginning of the 2009 season most people on here wanted Nani out. Fergie saw a star in him and most of you on here were completely out to lunch.

2009. 3 years ago, since then he's been top drawer, and one of the best players in the league alongside being one of the best wingers in the world.

I wasn't. Even still, that was after 2 years. Anderson has had 5 years, and Nani has always been the more talented of the two, and is now one of the best wingers in the world, where as Anderson is still nowhere near justifying his original hype.

Stupid to compare them.

not many 23 year old centre midfielders play anywhere near as many and as important games as anderson has for us. centre midfielders mature in their late 20's. the injuries have been frustrating but when at his best ando is an all action type midfielder, exactly what we are crying out for. injuries are part and parcel of that role.

im a firm believer ando will be top class for us. i think he is the sole reason that fergie hasnt signed a midfielder.

Sounds like my heart talking. The opinion of my head has started to diverge slightly. But still keeping the faith. Just.

I think he should go. Its been 5 years and he has regressed so much its quite unbelievable. I've never seen a Brazilian who lacks so much finesse in his play.

Regressed?

Can you remember when he first got here? He was in the reserves looking shite for a while!

He was always very highly praised at Gremio and later at Porto. To be fair, he looked like he will be a world beater for us when he was came to united in the 07-8 season as a 19yo. I still remember when he came on for us against Wigan and absolutely ran the show, followed by a string of solid performances with Hargreaves.

The problem I have with Anderson is that I'm still not convinced by him as a CM. Having watched him a fair few times before he was a united player, I was sure his future position was an AM. He's not shown he's got what it takes to play that position at united, but he's added a more defensive side to his game. Now seems like a jack of all trades type midfielder, which is slightly worrying given his potential as a youngster.

We were playing Ando-Scholes mostly when we were clinching those 1-0 win's.... Anderson's hype came when he outshone Gerrard, Fabregas etc...

He outshone Gerrard partnered with Hargreaves. To be fair, that performance was slightly overrated. His match against Arsenal in the FA (or carling?) cup was sensational though.

One of the first things I do every morning is look at the Guardian and Telegraph football pages. And every day for he last three years, I half-expect to see that Anderson has been sold.

Some day.

"For me, this season is very important," he told the Manchester Evening News. "I know I have to be very focused on my football. I'll still have a laugh and a joke with my team-mates, but I know I must be really focused.

"I want to show what I can do this season, produce my best and help the team. I need to prove what I can do. I know the boss and my team-mates believe in me, I've just had bad luck.

"I want to improve as much as I can and help the team win trophies. I feel good. I had a nice holiday and I've had no problem with my leg.

"I started last season with no problems but then I started to feel my knee a bit. It's just one of those things, some players have injuries and others don't."

Caftards?

Why? It's no surprise that he's injury prone, but if he keeps his head down and works hard, given a bit of luck there's no reason why he can't still fulfill his potential and be a very good squad player for us.

All it means is he (and perhaps the club) made the decision to play through pain rather than letting his knee heal and both parties paid the price for it.

That was quality that one against Arsenal. Still his best one, in my opinion.

We were struggling for goals before he got that chance against Wigan in the middle. He was bloody good in that game in the 2nd half. We scored 4 after he came on. And after that he started in the middle and we scored 4 goals in the next few games. He was really that good and the hype went into overdrive after his performances in the big games.
