Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Well, Rio probably needs to be rested, Smalling is injured, Jones is injured, who else is going to play center back?

Are you saying you prefer Carrick or Michael Keane, or do you think we should start Vidic and Rio for this one?

Thorpe is a far safer bet and realistically has a chance at United. Given Keanes improvement in the last 18months I nearly pick him ahead of Wotton as well....

Hmm, I did forget about Thorpe. He's got 7 appearances for the reserves, tied for the lead, to only 4 for Wootton, but Thorpe only has 1 more start. We've played a lot of different CB pairings in the reserves so far this year, it could be Fornasier, Thorpe, Keane or Wootton.

These are the 6 starting CB pairings since the reserve season proper began.

Fornasier-Thorpe
Thorpe-Wootton
Evans-M. Keane
Fornasier-Thorpe
M.Keane-Wootton
McCullough-Fornasier

Not arsed about the result in this personally, just hoping the promising youngsters get some playing time. People like Powell, Lingard, Cole, Blackett, Petrucci, King, Vermijl, Tunnicliffe, Michael Keane, Thorpe and Brady.

On a controversial note I hope players like Macheda and Bebe don't get more chances at the expense of any of those players just because they are older, as in my opinion they are less talented and the sooner they move on the better it is for the exciting youngsters beneath them.

I would like to see something like this;

--------------------------DDG(Johnstone)------------------------------

--------------Wooton(Keane)---------Evans(Thorpe)-----------------

Vermijl----------------Fletcher(Tunnicliffe)-----------------Buttner(Blackett)

------------Anderson(Petrucci)---Cleverley(Powell)------------------

Brady(King)------------------------------------Lingard(Cole)

--------------------Welbeck(Hernandez)-----------------------

Probably get beat with that line up but it will be great experience for some of those young players. A lot of them wont end up playing but it will be well deserved for the ones that do. Lots of different possibilities in each position also.

EDIT: Looking at that we could field a technically gifted all English eleven with Cleverley the oldest player at 23.

I'm going to be at this match, so hoping for a decent performance. Probably won't notice either way because I will be very drunk. ::devil:

----------------De Gea------------------

Keane-----Wooton-----Evans--------Buttner

------------Fletcher-----Anderson----------
Welbeck-----------Cleverley----------Brady
------------------Hernandez----------------

Unfortunately don't think we're going to have many travelling down for this. Spoke to lots of people and most have balked at the £45 ticket price especially with it on the telly too. A shame because local-ish cup ties are usually big sellers.

Somebody asked about the team. Honestly haven't got a clue apart from that Pardew said Tioté and Colo are likely to play because they need the games after injury. Think there will be a sprinkling of younger players in there and bizarrely Xisco is supposed to be back in the squad. Wouldn't dare to have a genuine prediction other than that though, could be any assortment.

Yeah I think it'll be like this but Powell for Clev or Brady, more likely Clev. If Vidic is actually injured we might not take a chance with Evans though.

What was the story with Tioté on Sunday? He seemed to go a bit Joey Barton at one point?

Something along the lines of longlivekeano's pick looks sound. I guess this match will be more about giving second choice first team players some match time, rather than fielding a lot of youth, unfortunately. I guess we don't want to lose against a potential strong Newcastle team either, I think the LC is a great arena for reserves and players in need of match fitness.

I think I would use Nani at left wing though, like someone suggested earlier, because of his horrible performance at Anfield. He could need a good match to find back to the player he's capable of being. He's also a potential match winner with his deadly long shots in a potential narrow win. And I'm not a big fan of Macheda on the wing. I would also like to see Powell get a start in front of Anderson, or at least get 35-30 minutes as a sub in the second half. Maybe Wooton or Thorpe as CB.

We should keep Rooney on the bench for a 30 min cameo if he's fit. Maybe Petrucci, Bebe, Lingard, and King/Macheda on the bench as well. I agree with Skeppy though, maybe leave Macheda out in favour of younger talents, I think he has lost his chance and don't have much faith in him anymore.

Bebe should definitely play in this.

He's certainly an option for the left wing spot. I just think King has looked better so far this season than Bebe and expect he'll get the nod instead.

King is a striker of course, but SAF loves to put striker on the left wing. Or we might play a front 3 of King, Chicharito and Welbeck.

Has Newcastle's crest always had the weird horse-mermaids?[/QUOTE]

Didn't it used to be a Magpie ???

Maybe got the wrong club

Is there a press conference or something for league cup games? I'd like a little guidance from the great man of who is under consideration before submitting my entry in the line-up game

Wouldn't be surprised if this is called off. Some parts of Newcastle are pretty much underwater, making travel to the game for fans difficult

They wouldn't call it off unless the areas around Old Trafford were unsafe. Can't remember a game ever being called off for excessive rain apart from a waterlogged pitch.

I think we'll see a more experienced side than in previous years. We'll obviously want to go pretty far in this, and hopefully face a Championship/League 1/2 side later on - that's when it'll be better to use more of our youths.

Newcastle's second string is probably pretty strong still - and Tiote and Coloccini apparently will play a part so I reckon we'll see more fringe players, a few first teamers and only a couple of youngsters for this.

De Gea

Valencia
Evans
Wooton
Buttner

Bebe
Fletcher
Cleverley
Brady

Hernandez
Welbeck

Subs: Henriquez, Tunicliffe and Macheda.

If Bebe plays it would be great for him to replicate his pre-season performances

Wootton and Veseli in centre back, feck it. They'll probably get injured anyway... And the C.O.C. is Mickey Mouse...

Wooton and Micheal Keane at cb then. Won't be surprised if if Vermijl plays in place of Rafael.

Personally I think that Vidic will start. I don't really think that Welbeck needs minutes either. I would much rather see the young Chilean out there. I would even like to hazard a guess at out possible team, though I think that maybe Brady will get a start with Anderson and Clev in central midfield.

Are you mad?

Banana skin central this one.

You're giving us too much credit.

We've lost against proper shite teams the last few years at home. Banana? This is a full on plantation field.

Newcastle will also play a weakened lineup.

We're usually better off playing strong opposition in the League Cup in fairness, it's the shite lower league teams that we usually would make a balls of.

Yeh but as KM says, it's a weakened team you'll be playing. I don't know, I just suspect this will be a 3-3 or something ridiculous.
