CFR Cluj v Manchester United

Arghhhh, SAF out, what a terrible line-up...even though I haven't seen it yet.

Am I the only one that notices RvP moving to the side often in games?
I mean, it's something I wouldn't even mention if there wasn't so much talk about "no wingers" and that giving us "no width".
Not saying it's the same thing, but you can still play the ball out wide in a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1, heck even Hernandez is adaptable enough to sometimes hold the ball out wide and start an attack that way. (granted he's only just started to do it, but it should be obvious right now that not playing 4-4-2 doesn't in any way have to mean we lose our width).

What happens if we play the midfield everyone wants to see and still play like shit? Confusion all round...

I am really nervous about this game. We need to perform.
It's not like we have bad players, but the motivation has not been there this season. With all the talk of how painful last season was, we haven't kicked into gear yet.
We really need to get a string of impressive results starting today. Come on United!

We'll be forced to admit that even our best midfield is shit.

So from playing a team relying on wing play at the weekend, we play a team with no width.

I'd love to see that (three midfielders and three strikers) more often in Europe.

That's how you win the European Cup.

Other than my argument earlier in the thread about giving Wootton experience with a start, that team looks pretty much perfect.

Odd front 3.

Hernandez on the right?

Nani dropped for being a bit poo recently or is he injured?

Can't complain with that. Other than missing Kagawa, that's pretty much the best team we could field.

Will be interested what he does with the front 3. Is it RVP/Chica up front with Rooney in the hole? Or will Rooney/RVP play wide around Chicharito?

Also, go on De Gea!

Perhaps a diamond formation? Love the midfield.

I think SAF needs to decide what way he wants us to play, because tonight's team will play nothing like we did at the weekend, or against Liverpool. Not really going to help if we revert back to the static midfield on sunday with wingers pinging balls in to nobody.

Nice looking team. Assume we'll play a narrow diamond like we did against Newcastle.

Bit worried about Rio starting so many games.

Newcastle in five days and then international break. He's not 54, ffs.

Yeah, it's diamond formation for sure, I don't want to watch Rooney and Persie playing on the wings.

With that line up if we don't start with a lot of energy, there is no hope.

Will be the same formation we played against Liverpool, front 3 with Cleverley and Anderson pushing up to exploit the wide spaces.

No wingers. Fergie reads the Caf.

That went well! ;)

Having said this, I am actually looking forward to this midfield in action. They are all capable of pressing in midfield, and I expect Rooney to drop deep playing a CAM position.
