Shinji Kagawa

Why are people comparing Kagawa with Cazorla?

One is a 28 year old established Spanish international and former player of the season in La Liga, who is in the prime of his career. The other is a younger player at the start of the final step of his career, and is trying to reach his potential.

It's unfair on Kagawa to compare them, the only similarities they share ATM are the fact they've both made the jump to the Premier League, and were both bought for similar amounts.

United have a different philosophy to Arsenal on integrating their signings. We frequently play them in a number of positions, formations and contexts early on. I guess the aim of doing this is to get them used to our way of attacking and (sometimes) fluid tactics. Sometimes it works (ie Smalling being placed on the right, Rooney being moved around) and sometimes it is questionable (Anderson deployed deeper, Berba). Kagawa is being put under the test at the minute so we'll see what happens

He'd played in the Champions League 10 times before you signed him (compared with Kagawa's 6) and has appeared competitively for his Country for the equivalent of 4 full games (having only played at a finals for 16 minutes). He is hardly as seasoned a professional as you claim and is essentially making the same step up as Kagawa, albeit 4 years later (both players are at a top tier club for the first time in their careers).

Also, similar prices - Cazorla was closer to double the cost than the same cost.

Cazorla cost us under £15mill, you did not buy Kagawa for £7.5mill. I've heard the fee your lot paid was £12mill rising to £17mill so a very similar fee.

Cazorla was a great buy no doubt.

Especially when you consider that clowns like Downing cost even more.

Carroll cost more then twice of that, christ that still has to be the worst deal in the history of football.

And don't forget Henderson! Then those clowns moan about other teams having more money than them to spend!

At the time the only figures that I read were quoted at Cazorla being £20m, compared with £12-14m Kagawa.

Ignore that part of my post if he was indeed < £15m.

Transfermarketleague.co.uk has Cazorla at £20m though I had always thought it was £16m which was the figure Sky bandied about.

A bit harsh on Cazorla to say he wouldn't be as good with you, RvP has slotted in just fine hasn't he?

Definitely wasn't that high, I've heard between 14-16 so I just go with the middle point of £15mill

Seconded

That site doesn't even exist.

Did you confuse the site name or did you just make it up?

Edit: did you mean transferleague.co.uk or transfermarkt.co.uk? Those were the only ones I could find that sounded similar.

Transferleague.co.uk has Shinji at 12 mio. GBP and Cazorla at 20 mio. GBP.
Transfermarkt.co.uk has Shinji at 14 mio. GBP and Cazorla at 16,7 mio. GBP.

No idea which side is more reliable though.

I usually use Transfermarkt for my information but really, like I said I have no idea if they are always 100% accurate.

Why is it harsh? He has been fantastic for you but I don't think he would look as good in our usual system. Am I supposed to just join in with the Cazorla wanking or something?

Yeah, it went down as a Konno goal apparently on the TV. That's what livescore says as well. Good to see it was Shinji.

 I watched and said that's Kagawa but the commentators and Livescore said its Konno so I started to doubt myself.

I think he's gained a unfair reputation as someone who is muscled off the ball easily. The team selection today probably means Fergie disagrees with me so I imagine I'm fighting a losing battle. The number of times he's been pushed off the ball for us is almost certainly in single figures I'd say. In fact he uses his body so well I'd expect him to be right up there amongst our most fouled players (Does anyone have any stats?).

Many of us expected him to have had more of an impact by now, I don't dispute that but, I think we are wrongly placing the blame on his strength/perceived lackthereof simply because we expected it to be a problem.

The real issue is imo that he has never been a player who controls a game, at his best he terrorizes a defence despite seeing relatively little of the ball. So, given that our general style of play isn't really compatible at the moment with his game, he has had a limited impact. It's testament to his quality that that limited impact consists of a couple of goals and a few assists.

In short, I'm sensing a Shinji backlash but I don't think we should be blaming it on his physique.

I agree, his physhique could be better, but it's definitely not big problem. Everton game can be good example.

I think he'd do the third wheel of the interchanging front three we're playing better than Welbeck. Or even better as part of a three in midfield behind that three also including two of Cleverley, Anderson and Carrick.

Defensively scholes was a worry, on the ball though he was good. Could see him playing against Chelsea though don't think he should. Think we'll need to be strong defensively that game and able to hit them on the counter.

I think kagawa needs a good game in the cl this week cause atm it's hard to see where he'll come in. Valencia was poor yesterday but he and nani have been excellent against Chelsea in recent seasons and if there's one area they can be exploited its outwide. I would definitely expect to see one of them in the team. Depending on how we play he could come in at the head of a three in the middle but then he's under threat from clev who's playing well and similarly on the other flank you have welbeck who's playing well.

I agree and don't think he should play but I can see fergie playing him. If giggs doesn't play in midweek I wouldn't be surprised to see him either. Don't agree with it but could see it happening.
