A professional footballer, especially for a club like United, should never asked to be taken off during a game unless injured.

He had just done a run and got tackled on the edge of their box, he then gestured to the bench to sub him. After this it was about 2 minutes before he was subbed. In that time he did not track back he just stayed in Hernandez’s position.

He was brilliant yesterday but needs to work on his fitness ASAP.

It is not good enough that a 24 year old can’t last a full game

He should play on Saturday, he deserves it as he's played well this season when given the chance.

Slight concern though is how he tires around the 70th minute mark, and just looks knackered.

It's not a slight concern - it's a huge concern. We all defend him, and I realize his injuries have meant, he hasn't been able to go on a consistent run of games to really get match fit. But he's like this EVERY GAME. He's injury free atm, and is involved in daily training, yet come the 65-70minute mark he hits a wall.

After Scholes, he is the most talented midfielder we have...even taking into account the injuries, his lack of dedication is really disappointing.

Anderson quite simply changes how we play - he adds a ton of urgency to our midfield play, and quickens up our game.

That move when Mikel and I think Romeu were closing him down and he played the ball over his head just to turn around and control it perfectly leaving both of them looking like spastics

Was in the first half I'd love a gif of that

Yup..saw that, close to the sideline on the right. Great bit of improvisation.

For a player who has never managed a full season of football in his career his fitness isn't really that shocking. If we manage to keep him injury free for a longer period, it's bound to improve at some point in future. Hopefully his consistency will improve as well because he's already had those impressive bursts of extra-ordinary form followed by poor spells. At his best he's a very good midfielder, at his worst he's not even Premier League standard.

What's wrong in saying that Anderson linking up with Cleverley made the latter's play much better and fluid last season? Has Cleverley hit the same heights of early last season since?

Clueless.

On a personal note, I can't wait to see a midfield trio of Cleverley, Ando and Carrick again. That's the football I enjoy watching us play, even if it means an arguably weaker defensive spine.
Because Cleverley have performed just as well without Ando. Watch his performances for England recently? Clueless..not for the first time either.
I agree about both looking fantastic together.

Anderson is going to need to look like Christian Bale in The Machinist before some gimps on here stop calling him fat.

Regarding his stamina, I'd be interested to see the distance covered last night by him and some other players, if one of the resident stat-tards could help out?

That's the sort of flair we expected from him when he came to the club but haven't seen enough of. Class.

I doubt players like him and Toure cover more ground than others. It's just that they tend to do it in these very energy consuming bursts forward. I'm sure he can improve his fitness a lot, the guy has never had a full season free of injuries after all, but I think it's important to take into account the type of player he is as well. Maybe there's a case for him managing his energy exertions when on the pitch as well.

There's a picture of him on Instagram on his decks.... If you call that fat I worry for everyone.

Is it recent? because if you look at photos from the last few seasons and compare them to now he looks distinctly heavier.

Yep. The fat talk is never going to stop despite him clearly not being overweight.

Here's some pictures from last night's match:

Along with some pictures from him against Stoke just over a week ago:

The second picture in the first spoiler and the first picture in the second spoiler show it all - he's not fat.

I'd like to see the distance stats as well. I bet he'd be at the top or near the top - and with him barely playing this last month there's no wonder he needed to come off. Like someone else said it isn't a matter of fitness as much as his pacing he needs to work on. He can work flat out and get tired more quickly whereas others would conserve their energy a bit more - but that is the kind of player he is.

I think the problem is that he just runs too much really. Seems to be constantly sprinting. He needs to work on his positioning, it's his biggest flaw, because he constantly seems to have to make so much effort to just get in the right positions to pass to him, which shouldn't be the case for a top midfielder.

I'm not remotely worried about his fitness.

Obviously he is sucking it in. Fat partying Brazillian with no dedication !!!

Rubbish. I know that if a person is carrying an extra half a stone or more than they were of body fat, they're not going to be as fit as they would be if they weren't.

Keeping the weight off is simple if you're dedicated - if you consume more calories than you burn you put weight on. If you're injured, and therefore burning less calories than you were, you need to reduce the calories you're taking in. It's all about discipline.

Ryan Giggs is apprently the same weight as he was (give or take) when he started. That's no accident. He may have the advantage of being more athletic but I bet his diet and training are spot on. hence he's still around at the age of 38.

Look at any physical sport - the people who have long, fruitful careers and reach the top are 99% of the time those who are dedicated and look after their bodies.

In my opinion there's no excuse for a pro-player to be overweight, especially one earning huge sums of money with access to the best technology, the best doctors and everything else in between. A player who can't keep on top of it probably has, in my opinion, the wrong attitude.

Seems like you're the one talking rubbish. First, you have no idea how much body fat he has or his weight. 2nd, check out the other pic and tell everyone here that Andy is a fat bastard with a straight face. He looks pretty lean to me unless you have a very weird opinion about fat people

Of course he's not fat, but you know, we remember the Anderson we bought, that's why it's hard not to see a difference.

That's what happens when you like to gorge on double quarter pounders for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fat feck...

Its not about giving him a break or about his injuries. Its simply not good enough imo. Harsh maybe and bound to be an unpopular view but unless his stamina improves he'll always be a liability in scenarios like last night, simple as that.

Id love us to be in a position where we could rely on him to put in another full shift at the weekend.

"A liability" who assisted all three of our goals. "A liability" who seemingly kept our entire team together, based on the shite we witnessed after he was subbed off. :wenger: Some people... Easily our best player last night. Id rather have a player like that on the pitch for 70 minutes than someone who does jack all for 90 (or 120) minutes - in other words everyone yesterday except Rafael and Hernandez.

And this entire argument that he was unfit yesterday is based on a commentator claiming he "asked to be subbed off". How the feck would he know? For all we know hes being rested to play a role in the match against Arsenal.

How can you not love a little Brazilian flair in the side? The more the better I say.

Anderson was fantastic yesterday. He really didn't put a foot in wrong. Lots of energy and creativity.

I hate his shooting technique though. Very un-brazilian. Relies on the side foot too much.

Laces Anderson, laces.

That was so good and the commentators didn't even mention it! This kid really does need more game time, Think he could become one of the best in the world but needs to play to perfect his craft.
That's just high-risk flash bollocks. A proper player gets his body in the right position and plays the ball first time into the path of the runner.

Why do the british never show extensive replays of this sort of highly technical and classy flicks ? I mean if Anderson did that for a Spanish team in La Liga, first chance the TV director (a throw in for instance) he'd do show replays of this beautiful skill.
British broadcasters prefer replays of crunching tackles :wenger:. It would really highlight the beautiful aspect of football.

For feck's sake I had half an eye on the game and he was blowing like a harpooned grampus at 70.

True he was ruined by the end of the game but lets not forget he was matching Chelsea's midfield almost single handed. He covered so much ground yesterday and was responsible for so much good play.

Not to mention the three assists he produced, people need to give Anderson a break, yes other midfielders can last ninety min's better but I would chance to say they do not cover the ground he does and do not inject the same energy into their play.
