Benitez to Chelsea Discussion & Sack watch

 His line of questioning and probing lasted an entire minute! I'm surprised how accommodating Rafa was, Fergie would have stormed off swearing in 10 seconds.

Rafa should have chinned him. Never been a great fan of Benitez but that was out of line. He might aswell have just said 'can you please give me some good sound bytes regarding the fans thinking you're a cunt'

only a matter of time before Shreeves annoys the wrong manager and this happens

3:15

Shreeves did annoy Ferguson once (after the former asked Ronaldo if he dived against Boro). In another interview with another manager (Southgate I believe) you could hear Fergie on the background abusing poor ol' Shreeves. That was so funny.

I hate Rafa but that ridiculous from Shreeves. I'm kind of impressed that he kept his composure as any other manager would have walked away from his clear wind up.

the only thing missing from this picture is the knife and fork in his hands, and serviette hanging from his chin!!

Just saw the interview. I hate rafa but Shreeves is a huge cock.

Spoke to a Chelsea supporter today who only ever seems to absorb info about football if it comes via Chelsea TV.

It seems Desailly was saying that Roman wanted Rafa last year but gave in to potential negative fan pressure to give RDM a run. This time he's decided to ignore the potential abreaction. Prob just PR spin - but who knows to what purpose.

Anyone have a clip of the Chelsea fans' reaction to Benitez yesterday?

I found a gem outlining their support for their current manager way back in March 2012:

RE Chelsea, there are people phoning 606 to say, quite rightly, that Chelsea fans are Roman's bitches now and have to accept his every decision or else risk being thrown out of the mansion and back to the slums and have their expensive jewlery and lingerie repossessed

as if it was ever any different.
it was obvious, especially when he fired Mourihno.

wonder if they'll ever get on Abramovich's case (who's really the problem here) or just keep on at Rafa?
I'd be surprised if they did, as I don't think they have the balls for it.

That would be highly unprofessional, eating on the job when he's supposed to be the guy serving everyone

Pathetic to say the least.

Ignore those comparing Liverpool fans treatment of Hodgson, completely different. As you said, it's Rafas first game ffs!

The fact is Rafa had alot to say about Chelsea, their players and had a pop at their support.

They don't want him there because they think he is a cnut.

That was after half a season in charge. There were no 'Hodgson out' banners at his first game nor was there mass booing. Unlike Benitez, he was actually given a chance before being deservedly chastised.

I'm not sure how much his ability as a manager has to do with it.

Chelsea fans don't like Rafa...they said from they off they wanted nothing to do with him or Grant.

They are giving their verdict on the appointment that none of them wanted.

I don't really buy this "Chelsea fans can't do anything cos they're Abramovich's bitch now" bit. Yeah they wouldn't have become European champions without him, but they weren't built by him, and they weren't made into a contender by him either. They were made into contenders buy Hoddle, Harding, Gullit, Vialli and (shudder) Bates. They finished in the top 6 since about 97, won several cups (including a European one) and attracted big players, including their backbone of Terry & Lampard several seasons before Abramovich arrived.

We considered them a fairly big game in the late 90s & early 2000s, so it's disingenuous to pretend they are, or were, nothing without him.

He certainly elevated their success well above what they were capable of before, but they aren't like City, and they won't crumble into dust if he leaves. It's also probably fair to say the history everyone taunted them about trying to buy, has now well and truly been bought. They've joined the list of European Cup winners, they're in a fashionable part of London and they're established as a big, big club.

Now, they'd go through a very tough time if he left tomorrow, but I think they'd survive.

So, the idea of voicing their displeasure at Abramovich isn't that foolhardy IMO.

The problem is, of course, that they aren't. They're shirking the real reason for their ire out of worry he will leave. Which is where the idiocy lies. Not in the actual voicing of it.

Personally I think they should go much, much further.

That's assuming he'd pull out instantly and remove all trace. He'd cum on their tits a bit before he left.

Plus we owe £400m odd. And we aren't going anywhere, with or without the Glazers.

Also, they don't need to force him out. They just need to grow the balls to stand up to step-daddy a bit.

How d'you mean? Not sure how this would be accomplished.

Well focusing their placards, chants and what not at him and his acolytes rather than their new manager for a start.

Their problem is that they dont feel they can, obviously, so they swivel it towards Benitez, who's the next most visible. The idea that they should just shut up though is fanciful IMO. Disillusioned football fans are going to voice their dissaproval at someone. It might as well be at the right person.

I agree with you on your last sentence, not sure if them having a gripe at Abramovich will achieve much to be honest but they have every right to do so.

Since you edited I'll just say re the last sentence, I think the circumstances this weekend were unique - Chelsea fans have a strong pre-existing opinion on Benitez, so it's cut and dried to them that he is the right person to boo, regardless of the treatment they give Abramovich... I guess what I'm saying is they can boo both if they want, they're not mutually exclusive, but they chose to boo Benitez for pretty cast-iron reasons.

No I don't know what it would achieve either. Probably absolutely nothing, but it's better than putting their current manager under immense pressure & undermining him to his players before he's even begun. That's just daft.

EDIT: Yes they had their reasons, which we all understand, but it's still cutting off their nose to spite their face. There's also a difference with voicing displeasure at the decision, which they did to Grant too, without the very, very personal edge it had with Benitez.

I agree it's unique and rather weird.

Yeah, I agree. I reckon a lot of fans these days are conscious of being seen on telly - I'm convinced a lot of the ones holding up the placards by the corner flag on Sunday were just doing it to join in the show that Sky Sports were only too happy to put on.

I think they were right to boo Benitez. The man's a prat. I'd boo him if he somehow became United manager.

I dunno though, the placards seem too far somehow, with it being on a huge television audience around the world, everyone seeing how fractured your club is - like every one on your street hearing/seeing you have a blazing row with someone in the family, you want to keep that stuff dignified in public. I guess the other side of that argument is that it gives Abramovich more reason to take notice when his club's image is being hurt in full view.

It was the same with us and the Green and Gold scarves. I have no problem with fans voicing their concerns/displeasure publicly.

That was a fairly dignified form of protest in comparison, no? I already said voicing concerns and displeasure is grand, but placards like the ones Chelsea had seem cheap and unclassy, I'll stand by that. If they had made some clever waiter-based jibes at Rafa I'd have more respect for them.

Can't believe that some of you pussies are having a go at Shreeves. Are you seriously saying that after a game of zero incidents were one of Benitez's biggest issues in the early weeks will be winning the fans over tha you wouldn't bother pushing him on it.

If I was your producer I'd be screaming down your ear 'ask the fat cnut about all the fans thinking he's a knob!'

On another note ... Spoke to a Chelsea fan today who was sat about 10 yards from the bench, when Benitez stood up someone shouted 'more bread for table 4 please'

And the chants about Glazer dying? It's all the same.
