I really do think it is just unlucky. His fitness has looked fine in recent games lasting most if not all of the game and offering more burst intensity than all but our wingers and wingbacks.

He's carrying too much timber. It puts unnecessary pressure on his body, which in turn breaks down. It's not really got that much to do with his ability to breathe.

Although I'd yet to see him play 90 minutes without looking absolutely knackered this season, fading in the last 20 or half an hour.

^I was a part of the he was carrying too much weight crew...but we've seen him with his shirt off in recent weeks, and while no one is going to mistake him for Cleverley or heaven forbid that anorexic Modric, he has dropped a lot of weight, and it doesn't look like there is a lot of fat on him atm(can't say the same about his ass though...but brazilians do have big butts )

Christ are we still doing this weight thing?

He weighs less then Scholes, and Rooney.

Yeah, I really dont think it is a weight thing. Some people just have a greater propensity for getting injured. I doubt it will ever change for him.

Would love to be proved wrong but I dont think he will ever fulfill his potential now. Not when he obviously finds it hard being in and out of the team all the time. SAF could hardly of eased him back in any more gradually last time.

Is anyone really surprised?

Surprised no. Gutted yes, because I really like Ando and want for him to make it here, but it looks that there is a high chance that he will never be the player we though he will be. fecking injuries.

Anyway, I always said that we needed to sign a midfielder this summer.

I too don't think there anything to do with weight. Shit, the guy isn't even fat. My advice is that they put him on that horse placenta treatment that fixed RVP, worked wonders.

Giggs was a such a hefer when he used to get injured earlier in his career, only when he lost a tonne of weight did finally become less prone to injuries.

Giggs was injured all the time because his hamstrings couldnt take the speed he ran at. He said the Dr told him to stop running so fast and his injuries would calm down, and it worked. feck all to do with his weight.

If there is a connection with weight, I reckon people are putting the cart before the horse. If you are a professional athlete and keep getting injured, that probably makes you put on weight. If you are fit and getting regular games then the weight problem goes away.

Actually Rob Swire told him to either change his car or get a different clutch fitted.

I've posted pictures of him looking fine for pretty much every game he played since preseason and people are still going on about the weight thing? And don't say that he has lost a lot of weight recently as he's been like that since preseason. He's got a frame that makes him look worse to some, but I doubt the injuries are related to that.

I know we don't usually do business in January but IMO we should bring someone in. We've seen what we can do in the big games this season when we aren't relying on Scholes and Giggs to play in the midfield.

The said midfielder just needs to be able to run around a bit and be able to keep possession - we've got enough goals upfront to compensate for it.

At this point I've just got to laugh or I'll cry.

He seems to get muscle injuries with an alarmin regularity. He must have some muscle imbalance thats not being picked up in coaching.

I went through a torrid time lasting about 2 years after my ACL injury - I was pulling my hamstring left right and centre, in the end a long rest - 5 months plus proper balance work, core excercies and plyometrics got my body back in tune.

I suspect Anderson has something similar.

Some people are just prone to being a bit lardish. A shame one of them is Ando.

Still, I don't think the answer is to cast him overboard. You just have to know how many games you'll get out of him every season and build your playing staff accordingly. His contributions can still be important, even if limited.

With all that weight hes carrying its no wonder his knees are breaking down. Hes a good 15-20 pounds overweight. Shame that a career gets ruined because of poor discipline and too many hamburgers.

Normally i would agree but he seems to be slightly leaner

I used to want rid but this is my view now. As long as he isn't someone we're relying on to play every week he should be kept around. If he manages to stay fit and play well then he'll work his way in to the starting lineup regardless of competition, but I think we're officially past the point where we don't buy a center mid for the starting 11 in order to give Anderson more chances/time.

Im going the other way. I have always loved the way he plays and wanted it to work out. But I am starting to think we have to cut Anderson loose. I would wait and see how the rest of the season pans out before making a decision on it.

You just have to know how many games you'll get out of him every season and build your playing staff accordingly.

At the end of the day, he couldnt have been used more sparingly in the run up to his injury. Therefore, you cannot plan around it. You cant say, he will be fit for short runs, therefore we wont play him until such and such a time and then we can have him fit for those games. It doesnt work like that. You keep him wrapped in cotton wool, then peel it off, unleash him, and by the end of the game he is injured.

The thing about having injured players as "squad players" is they are never fit when you need them. Its Sod's Law. Like with Owen when he was here. You think, OK, he may be injured a lot but he is bound to be fit when Carrick is injured or when Cleverley is injured or whatever. But no. He will be fit when the others are fit and on fire. When you need him, he wont be.

You need fit people, even as squad players. If this injury is drawn out well into the second half of the season, I think we should cut our losses. Sad as that will be.

Anderson injured for 6-8 weeks? Well I never....

Spot on. It's all connected. Can't imagine at a club our size in our current times that this is being missed?

Wow, Anderson's injury gets announced as 6-8 weeks and now he is fat again. I thought all the photo's and stuff proved that wasn't the problem. Just shows plenty of people are clutching to at idea and won't change their minds about anderson regardless of the facts.

Real shame about the injury length as he was looking really good before it. At this point I don't think we should be selling him injury prone or not. Next year, we are likely going to only have Fletcher, Cleverley, Carrick and then youngsters like Powell. Not exactly great depth and even if Giggs and Scholes play on another year, we don't want to be relying on them still. So really we should be keeping him anyway next year and still looking to sign a CM.

If we are lucky he will get back up to speed quickly for the season run in as well.

Given up on him. A less injury prone version of Hargreaves unfortunately, which is still far too much. I'd definitely keep him just on the off-chance he may not remain a total crock for the rest of his career, but this has happened far too often for us to rely on him this season or future seasons. We knew about his injury record and failed to strengthen our CM options last summer, and now once again we are looking worryingly short of options and quality there. Fergie has to buy a midfielder in January, could be the difference between winning the title or not.

I dont think our medical dept is upto scratch. Its why we are investing millions in a new sports science facility.

I play 5-a side (like many of you probably do) once a week (90min) then do next to feckall the rest of the week. Pretty much run around all game, headless chicken style but I never get injured, no matter how hard I stretch or sprint.
Couple of years ago I put on some weight, 40 pounds to be precise. Not only I lost pace, I started having those hamstring problems I always heard about but never experienced. Had to rest for three to four weeks a couple of times. My ankles started hurting and for the first time my knees felt kind of weird. Of course you could all put that down to me getting older but I was in my mid 20s.
Anyway, I stopped eating shit food, lost the weight in an year and now there's not a sign of any injuries, I'm back to my previous self.

What I'm saying is from my experience extra weight does damage. Could also be bullshit, I know. United have medical staff and they're supposed to know their shit. But It makes you wonder...

Interesting. Now I think about it, becoming much, much shitter at football over the last four or five years has coincided with putting on a bit of weight.

Of course, it's also coincided with being in my thirties, so hard to say.

This whole business about our medical staff being incompetent does offer a neat explanation to a lot of our injury problems. But despite that I just cant see it. I cant imagine SAF allowing something like that to hinder our chances. A man who has invested so much time and money into everything from youth coaching up, who is renowned for playing as big role in revolutionising things like the diets of footballers, not allowing them to go out, having spies all over the place reporting back to him when they step out of line.... why would such a detail-obsessed control freak not ensure we had world class medical facilities? It doesnt make sense.

Is Anderson fat again now? fecking hell lads, make up your minds.

Someone was going on about him having an expanding waistline in the newbies last night so I replied with this:

There is nothing wrong with his weight. Pictorial evidence going back to the first match he played in preseason shows that he is fine.

That is not someone with an "expanding waistline and fluctuating weight". Not this season.
