Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United

Jones in team to stop Dembele running through the middle.

If he has a shocker, which he sometimes does coming back, then we cant afford it. Fergies seen him in training all week and must think at the moment welbeck is the better option

I know what you are saying, but he did play ok and score midweek.

Still as I said earlier, I see what Fergie is doing, Welbeck deserves the start and Kagawa needs to further play himself into the team and form, so apart from maybe Jones where he is, I'm happy with the team.

I'm quite surprised by the reaction to Jones in midfield. I think he's more than capable there. The only time he ever looks out of is depth is when he decides he's going to dribble all eleven players on the opposition team, his touch and passing is fine otherwise. I expect him to man-mark Dempsey rather than Dembele today.

He's played at LB and CM, I'm sure it's not farfetched to think he might one day step out on the right wing. Preferably not today though.

He has played one game on wings too after we had won the league or some game.

But all 3 of these games were either pointless or similar. No way SAF will do that in the PL in such an important match.

Interesting line-up. Plenty of game changers on the bench.
Team looks set up to dominate possession by controlling the midfield. If/when spurs counter attack Jones is there to help out Rafa with Bale who hopefully won't be strolling through our midfield again like he did at OT.

There is a lot of disappointment about the team selection. I have to say I'm surprised myself, but make no mistake about it, Fergie will have studied our defeat at OT and no doubt feels this is the way forward.

Starting off pretty solid, 3 in midfield, no real wingers.

But a real wealth of options on the bench.

Let's see how this pans out. We certainly owe Spurs one.

Perhaps Fergie is worried Rooney isn't quite right physically yet to play in these conditions.

he played the entire 90 minutes vs West Ham didn't he?

I don't know, in my opinion Jones is in instead of him to counter Dembele.
If it doesn't work and we are behind by half time, then we have Rooney, Hernandez, Valencia, and Giggs to come on if we need them (in that order IMO).

He played his first game after a two-month injury on Wednesday... ffs.

So he needs a rest is it?????

he is fit and he played ok on wednesday, he should be at least on the bench!

I can see Dawson struggling with Welbeck's pace.

agreed.....and he's given himself plenty of power on the bench to change things

We definitely need someone in the middle of the park to stop Dembele and Dempsey from ruining right through our team, and Jones seems to be the answer to that. Carrick will sit deep as well to stop us being run over in the middle.

Jones also likes a good run forward sometimes and I think we need some of that today, attack the space fo shizzle.

Just leaves the small problem of Bale...but feck it, we have RVP up front.

Jones is the new Fletcher.

I predict that fans will be surprised, astounded, indignant and repulsed by the choice of Jones in the center for the next two years, when he will confound us all by turning into a world class midfielder. And Fergie will be proved right all along. :)

I'm not sure about world class, but I think he's got the potential to be in the Hargreaves/Gattuso class.

what's the name of that song?

Rafael started on the wing against Arse in the FA cup. Fabio played on the other wing.
That match was great.

Bizarre line up.
An opportunity to test the sheer might of this team with everyone fit and Fergie does the usual again. Jones in the midfield when Anderson and Cleverley would have passed the Tottenham's pitbulls to death in that area of the pitch. No Rooney, Nani and Valencia in the line-up is weird. I hope Fergie is aware it was Barcelona that lost last night, not Man City.

Very strong bench, optimistic about the game.

Parker's first start this season.

Wasn't he PL's best player last season?

Hargreaves and Gattuso can be considered world class at their best for the job they were supposed to do if not ability and stuff.

Seriously? He is in very bad form, he can't even cross the ball anymore. Give him a rest, let him come back refreshed.

Glad you know your stuff better than Fergie...............

Very strong bench, optimistic about the game.

A bench is only strong if the gaffer makes the changes in time and chooses the right substitute. Only 3 of those attacking players can play and if there's a bizarre injury at the back early in the game then having a strong bench is pointless! I'd rather a strong starting line up than a strong bench.

Our bench is always strong when we have a fully fit squad. I don't think it needs pointing out every week.

Lets hope Jones does a good job at dealing with Dembelé today. Surprised he's starting but if it works then great.

Bit of an embarrassing post mate.

Strange decision by Spurs to play Caulker, who is better as a righted side CB , in place of Vertonghen, who is a natural left-sided CB as well as being one of our best players this season.

I can only assume that Verts is not 100% for some unknown reason.

Nani was fecking shit on Wednesday, as he was even before the injury. Deal with it.

We didnt need that against city when they had Toure, we beat them by maintaining a good shape and pressing well don't see why we couldn't do the same again against a weaker team. Also when have we actually seen jones issued in that role, maybe for a few minutes against liverpool but largely jones in the middle whether tactically or not has played higher than the other midfielders.

Yeah - Fergie has never made any mistake before, right? Unlike you I don't wait till we drop points before i point out the flaws in the line up. I don't do hindsight analysis!

Kagawa is going to have an awesome game today. I can feel it.
