Luka Modric

I think he had one really good season at Spurs, and the rest were nothing special. But there are flashes of real class from him, even when he's not playing particularly well and I reckon that distorts the picture. Very much a Spurs sort of player really.

And I'll take all that back if he ever actually signs for us :D

In what way is he a Spurs kind of player?

Are you suggesting he's not a better midfielder than Scholes, Giggs, Anderson, Fletcher, Cleverley and Kagawa in their current incarnations?

He's better than Carrick too imo but some will debate that. There's no way he wouldn't massively improve this club.

This is the exact same muppetry we had will RVP with people saying he wasn't that good and that they'd rather we develop Welbeck, Hernandez and Macheda. feck that, if a world class player who fits our style is available for a reasonable figure we should grab the opportunity with both hands.

Never wanted him at United and still hold with that opinion. Would rather see Cleverley and Anderson given proper chance then to see him in United shirt.

imo you're wrong and hugely overrating the croatian. At his best I already prefer Anderson.

Are you serious or a wum with this?

When exactly is Anderson's best? About 20 minutes a season when he's not injured or more than a stone overweight?

With Scholes retiring, Fergie using Giggs on the left against lesser opposition and Fletcher's condition, there is room for all of them to co-exist. Anderson's fitness is still a question mark anyways.

Only when at his very best. Obviously Modric is consistantly (or was) better. All those teams did fight over Ando once upon a time by the way ;)

But honestly, better than Kagawa, better than Kagawa?

Yes, back when we thought Anderson was going to be the next Ronaldinho

Anderson is at his best for about 10 mins in one game before getting an injury for 2months.

It's no comparison. Modric is sex.

Well no not 10 minutes but I agree, he hits his best and then gets injured.

Modric aint "sex", he doesn't run games against the best and he's so uncreative it's almost embarrassing.

You're wrong there mate, he's been pretty average, but he is pretty creative.

Haven't following him at Madrid but the posts in thread look like an over-reaction. Kagawa is taking time to settle at United, why can't Modric take some time too? He's a superb footballer imo. Would love him at United. He'd run the show for us and be a hugely important part of our team.

he's on the same number of assists in that Madrid team (with Essien or Alonso playing deep for him) as Michael Carrick is this year for us.

Creative my arse.

These players don't even have the same roles!

The point is that using assist stats to demonstrate a midfielders creativity is beyond retarded, as demonstrated by the fact that Pirlo, the best midfielder in football outside of Catalunya, has terrible assist stats.
