Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Obviously I'm not talking about some self-published story only 15 people have ever read. Among books that are taken seriously by many people? Yeah, it is easily the worst book ever. And it's not just because I'm against their ideology, the reasons I mentioned above aren't about ideology.

Atlas Shrugged is a contender for worst-ever since it not only has no literary merit (in common with a lot more) but propounds an unpleasant pseudo-philosophy.
 
Good Day to Die Hard - More like Good Day to Kill a Franchise. I can't believe Willis signed on to make this pile of shit. No character development, shite writing, plot was non-existent. I knew it wasn't going to be that great, but thought it would be at least a decent flick. I encourage everyone to dl the torrent once it comes out because this pile deserves no ones hard earned money.

I read in an interview that it was Bruce Willis' idea to make this and one more to come
 
I really need to get back to watching films, gonna watch one of Lore, Reindeerspotting, Beyond the Hills, Killer Joe, Silver Linings Playbook or Our Children tonight.

Saw Lore couple of nights ago and loved it. Beautiful to look at.

Was forced to watch Jeff, Who Lives At Home yesterday. Usually hate that kind of humour (reminded me of films like Squid and the Whale, The Life Aquatic etc, both of which I despise) but really enjoyed this 8/10.
 
Tree of life has a great middle. There is an eery truth about the portrayal of male adolescence and the search for identity. It's worth watching for the central family drama alone. However I found, what I saw as an attempt to marry rules of the natural world, with a narrative of human endeavour, naive at best and down right bollocks at worst. Some of the imagery is stunning (cells and planets), some is hokey (dinos) and alot of it is tedious and repetitive (there must be at least 15 shots of looking up a tree).

I personally think some of the most meandering images and ideas were covered more succinctly, in a more poetic and engaging way, in The Fountain.

Oddly enough it's the only thing I've ever liked Segel in! Please note I watched Battleship last week and thoroughly enjoyed it (in an Armageddon, Con Air kind of way), which does render most of my opinions meaningless!

I thought the end was very predictable and a bit ho hum. Still enjoyed it mind.
 
True. There were more than one ending that could have been predicted.
 
Battleship is the Sky Premier at the moment so I watched it last night. Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.

It was so bad it could have been a parody. Infact, when they went back to that museum ship and the old guys were still there (despite the ceremony thing being at least 1 full day prior and all this shit going on) I had to remind myself that it wasn't a comedy.

Truly, truly awful movie.

I watched Martyrs on your "recommendation". It was certainly visceral, and will definately stay with me, in the same way that The Woman or Kill List will.
Just one question, and it is an open question.
What was the meaning of the ending?

If the afterlife was meant to be wonderful, why wouldn't the old bag share the info?
If it wasn't, why the rush to get there?
 
Animal Kingdom(2010):

Not an average performance anywhere to be found in this movie this a film that doesn’t seem to excel at any one thing but just does everything it does with such brilliant efficiency that makes it a thoroughly engaging film. Aussie crime drama about a young boy who’s mother over-doses in the opening scene leaving him to go and live with his crime ridden extended family. Solid performances from Guy Pierce and pretty much every single member of the cast. A really good and gripping film that comes highly recommended.

How I Ended This Summer (2010):

Another cracking little film set around a monitoring Station on a desolate island in the Artic Ocean this one focuses on the interplay between a college student/graduate and a hard bitten scientist (I think that’s what he is). Another engrossing and brilliantly written film, this time from Russia. Well worth watching for 2 brilliant performances from the main actors also.

It is really good. The cinematographer Adam Arkapaw also worked on Snowtown, which I thought was an extraordinary film. Thematically they are two very similar films but with completely different outlooks.
 
So boring that I thought that I hadn't seen it until I looked it up and even then I think I'd forgotten most of it until I read the synopsis twice. Mockney is perhaps also being kind.

Then again I can't stand Anderson.
 
Just watch Argo. Another good movie. Even though they had so many things factually wrong, I understand why they did it and it was a good watch. I think they could have come up with more drama towards the end.7/10

I like a couple of Anderson films, but that was one that only die hard Arderson-tards could possibly like.

It was the equivalent of Tarantino making a film where Samuel L Jackson talked to someone from a car boot POV about cornish pasties for 45 minutes whilst using the n-word 38 times and then shooting them in the face.

Only useful if you want to watch a film about Wes Anderson making a film about nothing in the style of Wes Anderson.
