Manchester United vs. Norwich City

I think that we might see Cleverly and Anderson in the middle for this. Carrick might just be rested and brought on only if needed.

The only player that worries me is Snodgrass. Puts in some great crosses both from set pieces and in open play. IF we can deal with then we shouldn't have any problems in disposing them off

Which is why Vidic might start. But, it's hard to leave Vidic out for the RM match, although I'm sure SAF was pleased with the Rio-Evans partnership in leg one. No matter what, he will be more concerned with what the best for the Tuesday clash. No question about that. That's what the Everton game was about. Open up a huge lead so he could afford to rest players later in the season. Tthis is later in the season :) and Norwich are not Everton.

If I had to guess for Saturday he'll go:
DeGea
Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra
Nani, Cleverley, Anderson, Young
Rooney, Hernandez.

Two changes that might be in that line up would be resting Evra and maybe Vidic in for Evans.

Let's face it. Tuesday's game is a monster game. SAF knows he needs a full tank of gas for that match and that's a do or die clash.

I'd play this for Norwich

DDG

Smalling Vidic Evans Evra

Nani Cleverely Anderson Kagawa

Rooney

Hernandez

And this for the Madrid game

DDG

Rafael Rio Evans Evra

Nani Carrick Cleverely welbeck

Rooney

RVP

Looks about right to me, but I'm not sure about RvP not starting. He had that fall v QPR but I can't imagine he's not already 100%. And at this point in the season I can't imagine he's suffering from fatigue. For some athletes, there's a risk of getting too much rest. I'd go with RvP and if it's smooth sailing early in the second half then bring on el Mexicano.

Clevs and Ando, though for sure. Carrick could use the rest. And Clevs could use the playing time. I still have grave doubts about the utility of Ando but it would be crazy not to use him against the likes of Norwich.

I'd be concerned if we was away just before the Madrid game, good feeling with it been at OT.

I'd be concerned if we had to play Barca two times before the 2nd leg! Real are going to be jaded.

I think after this Madrid performance, I've given up hope of a strong team on Saturday

Norwich have not been an easy team for us to face over the last two seasons. They missed a bunch of sitters at OT last year and then we struggled away with Giggs saving us and lost to them this year as well. I think we'll play Vidic vs Norwich and Chelsea next weekend and Carrick probably won't play this game. Cleverley-Anderson would be fine and Rooney needs games so he's going to play too imo. Will be a tight game

Norwich are a technically poor side but they're a massive problem for us because they've got a feck load of headless chickens running around for 90 minutes. Whenever we play them they seem to have seven midfielders on (mainly cos they do).

DDG

Rafael
Smalling
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Cleverley
Anderson
Young

Rooney
Chicharito

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Giggs, Carrick, Nani, Kagawa, Welbeck.

Nani in for Valencia/Young and with RvP on the bench and that's a team I'd love to see.

Norwich has a shop solely dedicated to mustard, for this they should lose 4-0.

No chance, set out the first team to get the job done as early as possible and take off players later in the second half.

Norwich:
De Gea
Veseli Smalling Evans Buttner
Cleverley Anderson
Valencia Kagawa Young
Cheech

Real:
De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Jones
Nani Rooney Welbeck
Persie

DDG
Smalling, Rio, Evans, Buttner
Valencia, Cleverley, Anderson, Young
Kagawa, Chicha

Bring on Rooney, RVP, Nani if we need a goal but, I don't think we will.

it may get tricky if it is the 13th

In that case I hope we rest some players vs Chelsea and play the first XI at West Ham. 3 days after would be Reading at home where we probably could rest a player or two.

I trust Hernandez to do the job for us against Norwich. RVP can be rested and bought on on the hour mark in case we need him.

I too trust Hernandez. I think he might score a hat-trick and give Fergie another selection problem for Tuesday.

I'd play RVP and hope he can get in to the grove, he's said himself he doesn't feel like he can keep a rhythm when not playing.

If I'm right, I think (incredibly) he's in his longest drought in a United shirt. Although I' not sure how much of a drought you can describe 3 games.

Rest players for an FA Cup quarter-final against a top four team and play the first XI at West Ham in a competition we'll likely be at least 12 points clear in? Bonkers.

I dont see RVP playing this one. Just back from a minor knock, we are 12 points clear and Real Madrid up next, why would we risk him?

I'd stick him on the bench and play Rooney and Hernandez who could both do with the game time.

I don't see why starting RVP is always considered some massive risk though. He's had his share if injuries in the past, but how long is it since he's been out for a long period now?

The lad is 29 and wants to play every game. If the likes of Evra and Carrick can play every game, well then I don't see why RVP can't. He's two years younger than them.

Im not alluding that he is injury prone anymore or anything like that. More the fact that you cant legislate for a bad tackle and therefore a bad injury. I guess that what I meant when I said "risk".

With a 12 point cushion and Madrid coming up I would leave him on the bench for this one. We should have enough to see off Norwich at home without him.

Yeah, but there's always a risk when you wrap a player up in cotton wool that they get out of form. Which I think is certainly true of RVP, I don't think his form has been as good since Rooney's return when he's been in and out of the team as it was when Rooney was out and he was playing nearly every game.

I don't think Madrid being on Tuesday will have that much of an impact on if RvP plays or not. As I see it, he's hardly played any football since the first leg and it would probably be better for the Madrid game if he got some minutes tomorrow. I can see him starting and coming off after 60/70 mins
