Manchester United vs. Norwich City

at one stage it looked like a no brainer, rest Rooney and VP.

But with Rooney, everyone knows he needs to play each game to get back to his top level.
And VP is fresh due to that knock.

So maybe we'll all be surprised and see them both start!

Still think that RvP should sit this one out, maybe a run out towards the end to ensure some sharpness. Rooney should play.

I'd like to think he'll start, but I'm guessing it will be a sub appearance for him.

I don't think he's shown anything to suggest he's ready to start a Premier League game and certainly not now we're into the business end of the season.

He's done pretty decently in the first team chances he has gotten this season including a CL away game. Not showed anything is harsh.

Will probably be on the bench though.

Context is important. "I don't think he's shown anything to suggest he's ready to start a Premier League game" is different to "not shown anything".

I thought he did pretty well when he started the two dead rubber CL games against Galatasaray and Cluj. Sure, we lost both games 0-1, but i thought Powell looked pretty good.

It would be a bit of a risk, though, certainly.

The word you were looking for then was "Enough" instead of "anything".

He showed a some signs of real promise but looked miles away if I'm being honest.

Wouldn't be confident with him in CM in a 442.

Powell can come off the bench to replace Carrick when the game is won.

Would love to see Cleverley, Anderson, Nani, Kagawa, Rooney, Young, Rafael and Buttner on the pitch at the same time. Might not be the best defensively but will bring back memories of those games at the start of the 2011-2012 season.

Do it Fergie!

I don't think Madrid being on Tuesday will have that much of an impact on if RvP plays or not. As I see it, he's hardly played any football since the first leg and it would probably be better for the Madrid game if he got some minutes tomorrow. I can see him starting and coming off after 60/70 mins

I do. Why would you risk going into the biggest game of the season so far without your best striker by playing him in a game we don't have to win? It's a no-brainer for me, bench.

Yeh let's go gung ho and give city a sniff. Foolish. We need to get job done professionally Norwich won't lie down so we gotta play strong side. 3 points is crucial.

He's been left out of a few games lately though and it seems to have impacted his influence on the team. Id start him and bring him off after 60 minutes.

Nah I'd bench him and bring him on the hour mark in case we need him. I fully trust Rooney and Hernandez to do the job for us.

We pretty much do have to win. We may be twelve ahead but we can't afford to be drawing or losing against Norwich at home.

Not that we necessarily have to play Van Persie...

Had a look at the Norwich forum. For some reason a lot of them seem very angry towards United.
We only seem to think about Madrid, we do not show them respect by having a "B-team" in the lineups, we will win thanks to a late penalty and so on.

Do they want a bitter rivalry?

No need playing van persie. However, we need to put out a strong team, I'd like to see this:

de Gea, Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Evra, Nani, Cleverley, Carrick, Kagawa, Rooney, Hernandez.

I hear what you're saying, it's not imperative though.

My guess is that van Persie will be on the bench as an insurance policy.

United have been making everyone angry since '93.

Are they a bunch of idiots? Any team we put out "should" be beating them.

de gea

rafael
smalling
evans
evra

valencia
cleverley
anderson
nani

rooney

hernandez

3-1, hernandez at the double, nani with one big effort to play vs real

I think Ferdinand and van Persie will be left out all together. Carrick will probably be on the bench, with Evra a possibility at being rested too (though I reckon he'll start). Only one of Evans/Vidic will start - with Smalling. The rest in anyone's guess, but I think Giggs will be getting substitute appearances in both this game and the Madrid game.

Whilst I am the first to admit that my all consuming hatred of everything Man Utd stand for no doubt clouds my views but I honestly believe that they are an ordinary side even with the best 11. Honestly for the first time in many many years I cannot think of many of there team I would actually want beyond Rooney and RVP.

That post is from a Norwich fan.....
