Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Interesting. Jones over Cleverley in midfield. I hope this means Carrick is the one who goes forward and Jones sits back. I'd really love to see the boys give Arsenal a Deliverance-style pounding, replete with dueling banjos as RvP and Rooney take their turns.

It will be the other way round, even if they have been told otherwise because Jones lacks the discipline to play positionally.

Seeing Nani and Valencia on the wings always reminds me of 09/10 season when they were both fantastic, especially at home to Bayern.

Maybe we should prepare ourselves for Jones being unveiled as our new midfield signing in the summer.

fergei will play a strong team against arsenal and chelsea. both are still in the race for a CL spot with spurs so fergei will try to be as professional as he can here.

expect more changes and few young players when we play swansea and WBA though as both team does not have much to play.

Nice team, would have been nice to have Kagawa in there given he's been playing pretty well recently. Jones in the middle is cool as long as he doesn't start getting ahead of Rooney again. I didn't think Clev would start this but have to say thought it was odd he didn't come on at Villa when we had sealed the game.

Good to see Nani in again, whether he's in the shop window or not though is another matter. Wonder where we'll see Rooney today, if in the hole than we could be a due a performance from him with Kagawa pushing for that spot.

We're the champions. They should be worrying about what we're doing, not the other way around. Two CMs on the bench who cant get a look in. Probably wont even watch now

What a tit.

Good to see Nani in the side too, a chance for him today. Shame about Kagawa not starting though, fancied him to have a cracker today. Shocked to not see Cleverley start in all honesty, hopefully we see him against Chelsea. Jones is class though.

No....
The best we have gotten is a draw....against Madrid and Tottenham and De Gea was responsible for keeping the scoreline respectable.

We beat Blackburn away with Jones playing in midfield last season.

However, he was off the pitch when we got our goals...

I can't believe that's true personally. Look at the spurs and Real game, when he's asked to do a disciplined role in the middle he can clearly do it. If he wasn't doing what Fergie wanted in the other games then there's no way we'd either keep him on the pitch or keep playing him and you never see anyone telling him not to push forward. However odd it seems it must be a tactical decision.

I know you're right, but this makes no sense to me. Carrick should be the one to venture forth into the frontier while Jones tends to the farm while Evra or Rafael, or both, navigate the treacherous waters. With the luxury of this being a "free game", Fergie could even deploy a little old-fashioned total football and see what comes of it.

Someone asked this question on twitter....

@matthewward1991: Anybody else think that Fabio for QPR and Rafael that plays for Man Utd look similar? #mufc #qpr

Why's that stupid dinosaur shaking everyone's hand? Such a fuzzy welcome for us.

Jones hat trick?

Will be interesting to see if Jones operates very deep ala Madrid, Everton, Spurs, or if he plays in a more regular midfield role pushing forwards.

Do us a favour and stop posting in this thread then.

Oh christ not again. This Jones thing is just getting silly. And it's not exactly helping him either. He's a brilliant CB, and being played out of position all the time rarely helps players who are actually good in their preferred position. You don't want to become John O'Shea if you're capable of not being John O'Shea.

Other than that, excellent team :)

Have we ever won a game with Jones in midfield?

You've got that the wrong way round, it should be "Have we ever lost a game with Jones in midfield?".

The answer to that would be one and that was against Chelsea with the Ba super goal where Jones was our best player by a distance that day.

It's so rare to be able to watch a United game with virtually nothing riding on the outcome. The last 4 games could be fun.

We should have played Rooney and Jones together in midfield. The moaning would have been off the roof.

Or better still Giggs and Jones. :p
