If it's Rio's promoters that organised this then they fecked it up. You can't have a jokey match 2 days before a cup final (albeit not the finest piece of silverware.)
This game should have been played at the start of the summer, when there's not a lot of urgency and players will be happy to be subbed as they'll be knackered.

Scholes also had his testimonial a couple of days before the community shield and Neville had his a few days before the Champions League final, both of the those games were great as neither team took it seriously.

I think this is down to Moyes. No one else would have wanted it played like that. Rio just looked so disappointed as though it was all an afterthought and rushed.

The testimonial was confirmed whilst Fergie was still in charge, I think if the pre season tour was shortened we would have had a mid week game for Rio.
The other day Rio made these tweets. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the spirit that the game was treated with...he clearly wasn't happy about this even before the match.

I think the way he was treated was woeful. A testimonial should reflect the players personality and this definitely didn't. Usually they say something on the pitch after. I am sure Rio would have wanted half-time entertainment. Was that BT's fault?
If the game had been played in the right spirit, we wouldn't care about the result. It would have been nice to see some ex-team mates and even some celebrities. It is supposed to be raising money for charities Rio wants to support.

Seemed an odd sort of style game for a testimonial.
Normally testimonials are made up of players who've been stars for your club over the years, or at least playing a team made up of significant players with some kind of connection.
A straight Man Utd current squad X1 against a Sevilla X1 just made it like any pre-season game.
