Nah, Barcelona had a game kick off at midnight (or a minute after) because it had to be played on a particular date but Barca had wanted the match to be the evening before to fit with their next game.
It's unusual though. 11pm on Saturday doesn't bother the Spanish too much. A full day, then dinner at 9, then the match. Great. But the night before a workday/schoolday that's not so popular. Once we're out of August the matches normally settle down to last game at 10pm, and more commonly 9pm.
Incidentally, for next week's return leg in Barcelona the club have paid 30k to keep the Metro running for long enough to get the Atletico Madrid fans back to the train station.

To be honest, I genuinely believed he'd be kept at Chelsea this season to give some competition to Cech (and ultimately force him out of the team).
He's outstanding.

Yeah, you guys are spoilt for choice & how you plan on managing both Cech & Courtois will be important because I can't see Courtois hanging around, waiting on Cech for another 2-3 years.
& Cech's fairly great himself - so I don't see Chelsea in a rush to get rid.

Cech is only 31 and Courtois' contract expires in 3 years. I think he's progressed faster than expected.
I would not be surpised if he never plays for us. Cech has said quite a few times he is going nowhere anytime soon.
Best bet would be to sell him to Atlético with first refusal.
There were rumours that he would be included in our bid for Falcao.
With a world cup coming up there was no way he'd sit on our bench after doing so well in Spain.
Yeah, the timing is a pity. It's kind of like our situation with Chicharito. Don't get me wrong, he'll get his starts but his probably not first XI which is a shame.
Maybe Barca will come in for Courtois next season.
