Manchester City vs. Manchester United

The derby looks set to be a real cracker

I dont know I feel it could go the same way as the game went vs us at OT, Moyes is often very cautious in big away games and United are good in defence so far this season( bar the second last night), could be another 0-0, or 1-1. Dont think either team is an obvious winner at present.

We're due a boring game against them, the last one at Etihad was a cracker and the one at Old Trafford in spite of having little improtance to it was also quite good. I guess the one that won them the title at Etihad through Kompany's goal was the last one that wasn't really all that great and it was mainly because we set up negatively.

Kompany's back and Yaya was in last game's scoresheet. And a morale boosting win for them. Not good news.
Positively for us, Rooney, RvP & Valencia on form. Defensively look more solid with Fellaini.

Same team as last match with just Young replcing Kagawa.

Predcitng a 2-0 for us!

If we cut out the stupid mistakes in defence and ensure our counter attack is finely tuned, this is winnable as it was last year.

Weirdly unlike going to Anfield, City away is one of my favourite fixtures every year.

Will Welbeck be fit in time for Sunday? If so, I'd say he's a nailed-on starter ahead of Kagawa, other then that it'll be the same team as yesterday.

Moyes will want to not lose this. Pellegrini will want to not lose it after a pretty shit start to the season.

Bore draw.

Issues are

Fabio or Smalling at rightback

Giggs / Young / wellbeck / Nani on left wing

Its going to be

De Gea
xxxx Rio Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Fellaini xxxx
Rooney Robin

I cant see Kagawa starting and if Moyes starts off cautiious then it will be Young.

City's defense will have to be close to its best to stop us from scoring on Sunday IMO. Rooney has a great record there recently and is in top form. That Robin fella doesn't look bad either.

It should be a cracker if both teams go for the win from the off.

Up until last night, I expected this game to be a 1-1 borefest. However, now I can see there being a bit more excitement for at least parts of the game. Moyes will probably start Giggs/Young on the left in this match as one of the only changes (Right Back is the other slot that may see a change). However, he could start Welbeck as well.

I'm hoping for Nani and for us to attack with width, but I think it might be a bit too optimistic. Our front six all looked good last night against Leverkusen, other than a few heavy touches from Kagawa.

How the nation is going to rejoice when they switch on to find Howard Webb as referee. We'll see that old picture of him in a united shirt and all the Webb is red excuses coming out.

My gut feeling is we will win this one. City have not been impressive so far despite comparatively easy opening fixtures. Kompany back is a big boost to them but I think we will put on a good performance and get the 3 points.

Best OP to a matchday thread ever. I've even stolen the United badge Fellaini'd for my FB pic.

1-3 United.
DDG
Fab - Vidic - Evans - Evra
Fellaini - Carrick
Valencia - Rooney - Welbeck

I'd go for that as well Irwin, really hope Welbeck is fit and makes it ahead of Young

Can't see Kagawa starting just yet, seemed to dip a bit in the 2nd and needs more game time

True though you'd think that game and a full weeks training should sort that our. He definitely added to the team in that first half and the worry is, if we don't get the Valencia from last night, but the timid one, than with welbeck whilst we have the defensive strength we really lack much creativity. So we could try and get a good 60 mins out of kagawa for welbeck and then sub him or give kagawa a caneo if we beed it. Tough one. Still think. Giggs, rightly or wrongly has a very strong chance of playing.

Should be an amazing game. Don't think Kagawa is ready for this type of game yet. I would put in Welbeck or Young on the left. Preferrably Welbeck.

I'm expecting a pretty boring game. Both managers will be very nervous and will set out their stall not to loose. Something similar to the Chelsea game is most likely unless someone pulls out a bit of magic...and to be fair, there's players on both sides that could do that.

RvP
Nani-Rooney-Valencia
Carrick-Fellaini
Evra-Vidic-Rio-Fabio
De Gea

Welbeck could play instead of Nani if he's recovered and Moyes wants to be extra cautious.

Smalling was great defensively last night so I'd play him if Rafael isn't available

Perfect game for Welbeck and he should play on the left - Zabaletta struggled with his athleticism last year

Apart from that same team as last nite - should be a tight game

De Gea

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Carrick
Fellaini

Valencia
Rooney
Welbeck

RVP

1-2, rooney and vidic

Hope there is more goals and entertainment in this game compared to the Chelsea/Liverpool games. I'll take another 3-2.

Small world. I too would like to witness a United victory.

What about the goals/entertainment front? AttackingFlair suggests:

So what about you? Would you take a hugely entertaining, high-scoring football match resulting in a desired United victory such as 3-2?

I'm not so sure. I'd like United to win of course, but damned if I want to be entertained concurrently!

I think it will end 0-0. Both teams seem to be better at defending than attacking atm so I guess it will be fairly similar to the Chelsea game but quite honestly I wouldn't be too sad about a boring 0-0 or a lucky 1-0 for us.

This won't end 0-0 IMO. We scored 4 goals vs one of the best teams in the Bundesliga and City scored 3 away from home. There's goals in both teams at the moment and I hardly think that Moyes will want a draw after Tuesday's performance. I'm sure he's confindent of our chances.

Come on, man, Leverkusen aren't one of the best teams in the Bundesliga.
