Liverpool

Their official Twitter was so smalltime yesterday. Saying something like "Merry Christmas Liverpool fans. Top of the league at Christmas" Which is fair enough, but then they added "Man Utd are 8th"

I wonder if it's ever happened before where a team that's first at Christmas won't even be top 4 come new years day?

Called it :smirk:

Top at Christmas. 5th by New Years. Only Liverpool could do that.

In the heat, Lucas was scared of another injury.
Saoirse on the other hand is as deluded as the fools on rawk.

I'm not worried to be honest, we are missing some of our best players and played well at two of the hardest away venues in the league within 3 days of each other and should have taken something from both games had it not been for incompetent officials. Roll on the new year, as I said we are 10 points better off than we were this time last year, it's hardly a bad thing.

The 'Top at Xmas' DVD will be on sale as Liverpool plummet down the table from here on

Considering their team isn't the strongest on paper, I think Liverpool have acquitted themselves quite well these past few games. 2-1 losses away from home are not bad performances when placed into context, their true level has come to the fore in these games - they have alot of players playing beyond their true ability in this side.. but Rodgers should take heart from the effort they've put in.

The tackle looked dangerous, that's probably why he was afraid of another long term injury and reacted.
If you need a answer for the other part then just look through your posting history and the evidence is all there.

The Scouse have been on the con all season. Suarez beating the relegation shite on his own at Anfield and had everyone thinking they are the real thing.

True, they've lost both but have shown they're capable of competing against some of the leagues best sides away from home. Their next 3 games are key: they should beat Hull and Villa at home, but they've got Stoke away in the middle of that which will be tricky for them. Win that and they'll be right back in it, although it might be one where they slip up.

They kind of remind me of Villa a few years back. Getting good results early on, having career-seasons from average players, some luck here and there, and then it fizzled out as the season wore on and those average players returned to being average. The major difference is Villa didn't have a player scoring goals at an incredible rate.

What I find strange about posts like this is that some are writing Liverpool off on the basis that they're incapable of beating the big sides, but then will say we're still in with a good chance despite our awful record against the top 9 (excluding ourselves) so far, in which we've only beaten one of them and picked up 6 points overall. They're not going to win the league, but they've had a good season so far and will continue to challenge for the top 4 at the very least.

In many ways this is true. in that Rodgers has got what is a very mediocre team on paper, playing some brilliant stuff and performing beyond their true means. They're very far from being the real deal, but it is not through a lack of bottle or fight - ultimately it is a lack of collective ability, City and Chelsea have groups of players who have top quality.. Liverpool have Suarez, the rest are either youngsters or journeymen. That said none of the top premiership teams have that true top quality of yesteryear but if anyone comes close it is probably Man City.

I don't think they have a chance of winning the league. I believe we'll come into the title race as long as injuries don't hurt us and we win some key games against rivals away from home. Liverpool should concern themselves with top 4, the better the quality Rodgers can bring in.. I'm sure in the long run he can improve this side, there is clearly progress happening at Anfield. They didn't lose these games in a manner like Arsenal, devoid of ideas and lacking fight.. they looked dangerous in both games, had some shocking decisions given against them, and were fighting to the death until the final whistle. I think it'll be between 4th - 5th.. for Liverpool and Everton will be their main rivals.

I think you're overestimating us a bit here. Obviously we're not far from top, but I'd be surprised if we're able to get right back into a mix and top 4 should be our main priority. Anything other than that would be a bonus. I think we'll come 4th, but Liverpool will probably run us close. Despite our improvements, our squad still has major weaknesses and despite what people say about Liverpool bottling it, we've been as poor, if not poorer, against the big teams and unless that improves it'll hold us back. I'd like to think we can contend, but I think we've left ourselves too much to do to get into the title race. Really, both of us just have to aim to win each game, hoping for top 4 and optimistically perhaps hoping for more if it leads to a good run, which we're obviously on right now.

They've also got City, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal at home now, while we're going to have to play Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea away. We've got them at home though, which helps us, but their home advantage for a lot of these games will be key.

Aye. Becoming cocky is not advisable. For us, I mean. I want three points against Spurs before I'll even consider becoming half bullish. Losing away to the presumably strongest title contenders doesn't say all that much in itself. And if Liverpool maintain the trend of brushing aside "lesser" teams they will keep stocking up points. It could be a close race for 4th, all things said and done.

But I do have a feeling. A good one. I can see Suarez losing some steam. And then. We'll see. I refuse to predict anything at this stage. It's a very open league at the moment, many questions that haven't really been answered yet.

I said we were absolutely shit in the first half and said half time couldn't come quick enough. In the second half we really upped our game and were unlucky not to take something from it being denied a pen. Don't how any of that can be construed as being delusion.

What we do as fans (banter) has no link to the results. I'm not saying that being cocky is advisable of course just that there are always gonna be reasons to laugh whether we're above or behind certain teams. It'll be dull to prevent ourselves from a few laughs because we wouldn't have earned the right.

Do you think Chelsea were denied a penalty?

In real time thought it was dubious and thought it could have been easily given, but watching the replay and the pundits analysing it shows that Webb probably made the right decision by not giving it.

100% agree with that. I actually enjoy watching Liverpool in these big games from a netural perspective.. I don't think it is by accident that they were involved in 2 big big games back to back and both games were high tempo feasts of football - they contributed to that by playing the right way.

Liverpool have their philosophy in place, an established style of play.. what they need now is investment, alot of it to buy top players and pray they get into top 4.. if they don't and Suarez goes - the wheels might fall off in the long term - especially if faith is not shown in Rodgers in the aftermath where they will struggle. They're in quite a precarious position as we are ourselves (falling outside top 4 and we lose Rooney, RVP and god knows who else).

We have a deeper squad, and greater know-how about the place.. we don't have the energy or commitment of Liverpool's side, we're quite ugly to watch but we do have more quality in terms of depth.. the fact they had to throw on a kid like Brad Smith was telling. Tough and squeaky bum times ahead for both of England's greatest teams.

To be honest all Liverpool hatred aside, they've have had a very good season so far. Given that all of their tough games have been away I'd still not rule them out of the title

I love how on this new thing that when you ignore someone it completely ignores them whereas the last forum used to show they had posted but not their post.

I can't see us winning it at all to be honest, I think City will win it easy- however if they go any distance in Europe they may neglect the league a bit so it's hard to know. A place in the top 4 is the aim and anything else is a bonus.

Is right.

I've been quite impressed by them over the last two games, but still will be interesting to see how they recover.

Must be annoying being a Liverpool fan after their best start in years and are behind Everton and only 2 clear of us after our worst start

It's the way you've swotted aside the 'lesser' teams that concerns me. If you keep doing that then you're still well in it. Let's hope not though

Two very hard games and two very narrow losses. They've probably got the easiest run of games from all of the contenders for the next couple of months as well. They'll be back in it soon.
