Arsenal vs. Manchester United

I've never been less enthused about a big match. In these big games I'm usually shitting bricks right about now but it's become a chore watching us this season.

Thanks to Moyes, it has no relevance for us this season. It doesn't matter if we win or lose tonight.

I wonder how crap Valencia will be today?

Gibbs isn't the bravest of defenders so maybe he'll get scared and move when one of Valencia's 32454352 drilled crosses is meant to hit his feet, leading to our goal.

Why not try a 3 man midfield with RvP, Rooney and Januzaj interchanging ahead of Mata? Is that so implausible? Or is it so vital to have Valencia in there to deal with their full back and offer absolutely nothing offensively and leave us with a two man midfield instead?

I thought we bought Mata to at least try to change the way we play, seeing as we spent THIRTY SEVEN MILLION POUNDS on him, instead, we're shafting him to the left and doing exactly what hasn't worked for us all season.
Depressing isn't the word.

And play how exactly?

How would he play Rooney, RVP, Mata and Januzaj in a team without atleast two of them having to do significant defensive work?

Eh?

2 of the top 3 teams in the league play a similar setup?

Add to that the fact that Mata is very good in terms of defensive contribution and Januzaj an 18yr old kid who can be taught that easily, why's that so hard to think of?

Why would we play the season's best player anyway?

We'll miss Jones kicking them all over the pitch tonight, but I'm starting to fancy us to get a win for some strange reason.

What I hope for -

------------------De Gea--------------------
Rafael---Evans---Jones---Evra
---------Carrick--Fletcher---------
Januzaj-----Mata--------Kagawa
-------------Rooney/RvP-------------

What we'll get -

----------------De Gea--------------------
Rafael---Evans---Smalling---Evra
Valencia--Carrick--Jones--Mata
------------------Rooney----------------
-------------------RvP---------------------
2 players out.... Valencia over Januzaj lol Moyes.

The lettering on the back of Arsenals training jacket is truly vile.

Cleverley. We are a man down in midfield already. One or both of Valencia and Young always start regardless of their form. This means Moyes must use superstition as part of his selection criteria. That said I still think we will win.

Who plays their best performing players in big games? Not to mention the only one who played well in the last big game. Keep them on the bench so the opposition don't know what to expect.

I thought the dead rubber aspect of tonight would insulate me, emotionally. But the nausea I'm feeling at the moment says otherwise.

I cannot bring myself to be nervous but I am actually fairly excited for the game. I will miss the first 20-25 minutes though.

Look at the look on Wengers face!! He is super confident they are gonna humiliate us...he's buzzing already

Moyes decision to use Rooney will define this game imo. If he persist on playing him up top alongside Rvp instead of a deeper role, we are in for a long night as it going to leave our midfield outnumbered.
I think playing Rooney as a furthest of three midfielders give us a better balance between attack and defense as it showed against Villa this season and in many other games previously under Fergie.

Love bt sport over dramatising 'neither team can afford to lose'

Wrong.

Arsenal certainly cant afford to lose. Unfortunately...

We can. It would mean nothing if we lose. We have, at this point in the season...literally nothing left to lose.

So far this thread has been filled by a hundred or so comments about crosses before the game has kicked off so Im expecting a hundred comments the moment the first cross goes over.

Every week we can't afford to lose.

I don't want to see us get a hiding though, someone hold me :(

Never seen Mata play on the left before. An assumption from that perspective is that he will probably be as bad as Kagawa when played on the right.

Nevertheless, once again Van Persie, Rooney and Mata are all starting. If we do not get a result, we might aswell start dropping some of our suppose world class player and implementing players that can form a more cohesive United team.

Apart from being in the prem?

0-0 this will end, considering the weather conditions.

For some reason, I'm confident Moyes will get his first win away against the top 4 tonight.

Carrick and Cleverley will be over-run, it's so obvious. Unless of course he has the genious idea of playing Rooney in midfield again.

Agreed. Sadly this game is utterly meaningless for us. 5th-9th, it's all the same.

Moyes has shown very few signs of being able to make a cohesive United team though. Sadly.
