Klopp's head is in Manchester. What's happening to Dortmund![]()
Why does a Portuguese journal write about Tasmania BerlinRead a funny story today in a Portuguese journal about a team called Tasmania Berlin who were promoted to the Bundesliga along with Bayern Munich in 1965.
Bayern Munich is what it is. Tasmania though, is the worst team ever in the Bundesliga and in their single season there accumulated records such as less victories in a season (2), more defeats in a season (28), less points (8), less goals scored (15), more goals taken (108), smallest home attendance in a game (827) and longest stretch without a win (32).
I don't think there's an outstanding leftback in Europe at the moment. Over the last few years, I read that about Marcelo, Coentrao, Alba, Baines, Alaba but neither was consistently on a level that made him individually standout, imo. Rodriguez is playing a brilliant season, but it's far from enough to deserve that title.Has Rodriguez overtaken Alaba as the best LB in Europe ? Seems that way to me.

Before they introduced 3 points for a win, it was common in Germany to show the points the team has won and lost. So if you won a game, it was 2:0, if you drew 1:1, if you lost 0:2. Then you add it up like you do with the goals. No idea why we used that format prior to the change, it would have been enough to show the points won by a team. What's that last column though? I take it it's the points, but what kind of freakish way to present them is that? How does it work? I can tell the one before that is the ratio between goals scored and conceded.

The ball swerved to the left right before it rattled in the net. Wouldn't go as far as label it as a mistake by Weidenfeller but I doubt someone like Manuel Neuer would have conceded that goal.Christ on a bike, that third Hamburg goal was weird. It was so obvious he would have a crack from 40 yards and yet Weidenfeller decides to stay so far off his line![]()
It allowed a better overview between teams who hadn't played an equal nr of games. Before they introduced 3 points for a win, it was common in Germany to show the points the team has won and lost. 1st penalty for Braunschweig: Why no sent-off for Schäfer......that was 100% the same situation like Szczesny's with Robben's.......i don't unterstand the refereesEpic stuff at in Nürnberg.
Braunschweig was one goal up and playing with 11 vs 10, just before half time Kumbela even bottles a penalty. Then after half time Nürnberg score two goals in as many minutes![]()
If Draxler goes in the summer.....i think Schalke will buy him...........Firmino is a very good playerThis Firmino guy has been really impressive this season. How much did he cost Hoffenheim ?
Filipe Luis has been excellent every time I've seen him, I agree.I think Alaba and Filipe Luís are the two best at the moment.
Well done, they should be proudWell Hannover have survived the opening 20 minutes against Bayern.
Well done, they should be proud
Schweinsteiger to Thiago.
The new Scottish Premier League
I doubt something will change next season.......again 30+ points for Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich with Lewandowski and Dortmund without Lewandowski
Diouff, who was here.Who is Hannover's striker ? Looks familiar..
Yeah Dortmund is gradually losing quality over the seasons while Bayern seems to improve their squad every year even though it seems barely possible to improve on this squad.
Agree on the second part, dissagree on the first one.
Klopp had never such a strong squad under him like this season. We never had such a good 3rd CB like Sokratis or FB back up like Großkreutz (after his conversion) or such an efficient fourth offensive midfielder like Aubameyang or two high level CM (Gündogan + Sahin) at the same time.
Dortmund´s problem is not the quality of the first team or even the bench. The simple truth is that we don´t have the financial means to compensate such an amount of injuries: Gündogan (whole season), Subotic, Kuba and now probably Bender (more than a half), Piszczek (five months), Hummels (four months), Schmelzer and Kehl (three months). These are just the ones, who were/are out for longer periods of time. Besides a handful of players everyone was injured at one point in this season. Transfer this amount of injuries to any former Dortmund team and we never win a single title or reach the CL final.
This is not exclusive for us, though. Any team with an annual wage bill between 80 and 120 Mil. € could not handle that. The only clubs, who are able to do so are clubs with 200+ Mil. € wages like Bayern Munich.
People try to find the reasons in Dortmund´s problem in our system and our lack of creativity and "plan B" vs. deep standing opponents, yet we have the exact same amount of points as last year with Gündogan and Götze. We actually have a pretty good record against lower table teams this season and create nearly as much chances as Bayern Munich (and way more than the rest of the league), but lost a lot of our fixtures vs. direct competition because of our unstable defense.
The team has also a problem with their motivation in games around CL ties, which is to a point understandable. The title is long gone, so they concentrate on the cup competitions. The problem is, that this year the fight for the CL places is more fierce, which is something they need to realize at some point. Arrogant perfomances just like yesterday, when the whole team had their minds already in Russia, are not acceptable. We had one short period of urgency in the game after the 0:2 and created three big chances in 10 minutes. This just shows that they could have easily won that game with or without injuries, if they would have put the necessary effort in it.
For what it's worth, I know quite a few Bayern fans who would agree with every word Sphaero wrote here. I also know quite a few idiotic Bayern fans who instantly started blaming their own club for selling Gustavo, when we had all our midfielders out injured at the beginning of the season. You simply can't prepare for every crazy situation, you add a few versatile players to have some options, try to have some youth players available who could do a job if necessary, but when injuries hit you as hard as it happened at Dortmund this season, then you're fecked. It's that simple.I was just arguing over same thing with Bayern fan on other forum, I am glad I wasn't far off from Dortmund's fan point of view. No way Dortmund/Klopp should be blamed for any of this, even losing their best players(still, nothing they could do about it).
Injuries are bad luck, I think you get even more injuries with bigger squad since you rotate more and some players have better injury records when played all the time than when they are being rotated. It's the same with United, I am surprised United fans can't see the similarities.

I don't think you can compare Dortmund to Arsenal, because Klopp's style makes them far less reliant on individual players. They lost their two best midfielders from last season, one of them even without any kind of replacement, but they still won their CL group. This might sound weird but I think the better the opposition are the easier it gets for Dortmund to perform and to some extend the less reliant they are on individual class.Similar to Arsenal/Wenger a couple of years back: the combination of being robbed of a couple of key talents every season and not having the money to build a 24-man squad kills you. We're just emerging from that with added £££.
