Manchester United v Olympiakos

We do need to remember this is Olympiakos we're against here, not a powerhouse.

If they can beat us 2-0 , we can beat them 2-0, and then have extra time to get the third.

Simples.

Does anyone else remember the Barca tie when the atmosphere was phenomenal and we overturned the deficit and beat them? I reckon its going to be like that tonight, people will be hysterical almost. But if we play badly I do feel the atmosphere will turn ugly.
Do you mean Roma?

The last time we beat Barcelona was 0-0 from 1st leg

Pretty sure he was referring to the European tie against Barcelona in 1984 where we managed to overcome a 2-0 deficit.
Yes I was, I will never ever forget that night. I read recently that they could hear us in Rochdale - but I dont think that is possible!

No no no - look what happened against Sunderland.

What means more tonight is the performance. It's not a competition we should harbour any illusions of success in and a tie that's pretty much one counter away goal from being beyond us. But even if it's a 1-0 win or a 2-1 win or even a draw on the night, what I'll care most about is how it's achieved. If we're still after all these months and after so many wake-up-calls, playing the same way we have been since August then it'll be proof that the manager simply doesn't know what he's doing. Or further proof, I should say.

RVP doesn't deserve to start, nor do many of the Liverpool bunch.

---------------------DDG---------------------
Rafael--------Smalling----Jones-----------Evra
--------------Fletcher-----Giggs---------------
Valencia-----------------------------------Nani
---------------------Kagawa-------------------
----------------------Rooney------------------

I'd go for

De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Evra
Carrick-Fellani
Januzaj - Kagawa - Young
Rooney
Keeping it narrow, Rafael an Evra providing width as and when, focusing mainly on the interplay between Kagawa, Januzaj and Rooney in a triangle with each rotating with the other with Young in kind of an ad-hoc role, filling in wherever a space opens up.

Can't we just break the rules and go ahead and play Mata anyway?

What's the worse that can happen? A lunch-money fine? David Moyes getting a lengthy ban? Playing a few games of the Europa League under closed doors? None of those things are particularly damning..

Take Young and Januzaj out and replace with Welbeck and Valencia.

Just seen a 'Moyes Out' banner being readied for the match on Twitter.

well hopefully whatever idiot has it is wrapping himself up in it and rolling off a high building.

we dont need that rubbish tonight of all nights.

I dont even know who to pick in a line up anymore this season.
DDG, Januzaj + 9 others
quick start is a must or tonight could get ugly I reckon

Get ready for a breath taking come back!!!

Today? No way its actually me watching the Juventus semi Final right now

I sort of wouldn't be surprised if we fielded the nearly exact starting XI as against the 0-5 Leverkusen match. Rafael at RB that is, Fellaini in the middle instead of Giggs and some tweak in the front four.

I reckon this is going to be a soul destroying last minute defeat.

That would be just typical Moyes' luck, leading 3-0 after an decentish match, then they score in injury time to make it 3-1 and out on away goals.

That would be the worst that could possibly happen, going out yet still win the game giving David Moron even more time to destroy the club.

Never been as confident about United this season as I am for tonight. I honestly think we are going to smash them out of the park. 3-0 easy.
Kagawa will start behind Rooney and will be awesome - mark my words. Not sure why I'm so confident, just feel it in my water I guess!

I'd rather play Rio over Vidic. Vidic is just as done as Rio if not more, and he's an Internazionale player.

Lol! Normally I would even bet on a 5-0. Even playing above average we would be able to overturn a 2-0 against Olympiakos.
However, performances in our "important" games this season tell me that this enthusiasm will wane in the first 20 minutes and it will be just flat and depressing.
I surely hope I am wrong.

I really hope Kagawa is given a chance behind a striker. No more of this RVP/Rooney deadnership.

I can see us doing a Liverpool 2004/05...Last minute winner against Olympiakos (Andy Gray screaming "you beauty!!!!") going on to jammily win the CL, finishing outside the top 4 but screwing Liverpool out of CL football.

One can only hope.

Another record for Moyes to break?

Not a hope of it happening but I'd love to see some combination of Kagawa, Januzaj, Nani and Chich/Welbeck.

Quick players. I'm tired of the lack of pace in our attack.

Setting the alarm for 4:30am. Probably the last time I'll have to do it for 18 months.

Kiss of death.

Like we needed one....

This made me smile...

I trust you mean the Cup Winners' Cup tie in 1984? Stands out to me as the best atmosphere I've ever experienced. If the crowd tonight generated those noise levels, Olympiacos would be beaten before they start.

This is on at 3.45am here. Not sure what to do. Might just have to sleep through it and hope my dreams of annihilating them or Moyes getting the sack come true.

What I would like to see:

De Gea
Rafael - Jones - Vidic - Evra
Fellaini
Giggs - Kagawa
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck

Lindegaard - Ferdinand - Carrick - Cleverley - Young - Januzaj - Van Persie

What I think we might see:

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Giggs - Fellaini
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck
Van Persie

Lindegaard - Jones - Carrick - Cleverley - Kagawa - Young - Januzaj

Either way, I feel both teams above should be able to do the job to get us through to the next round. God help us if we concede, though.

This should be Moyes last game in charge if we loose. Had enough of this clown.

I'd go for...
....................DDG......................
Rafael.....Smalling.....Evans..... Evra
Nani.....Jones......Rooney......Januzaj
.................Kagawa......................
....................RVP........................

Depending if Smalling is fit.

DDG, Raf, Smalling, Vidic, Evra / Valencia, Carrick, Jones, Nani / Kagawa, Rooney

Think the pace out wide will help us a lot more, with Jones breaking up their counter attacks through the middle.

Get Carrick on the ball and let him get the ball into Kagawa / Rooney, and let the magic happen.
