Manchester United v Olympiakos

Aye. I'm not surprised with that lineup. Just thought that Vidic would play instead of Rio (until I saw that tweet, which made me change my lineup in lineups game) and possibly Fellaini instead of Giggs, though this is the sort of game Fergie'd play Giggs in anyway if he was here.

Yes but possible not if Fergie had a £30m midfielder he had signed sat on the bench.

Great line-up. Giggs will be prepared a la Butt in '99. Valencia should be well rested. Rio won't let the game pass him by. Come on United! We can do this! :)

Unless we try something spectacularly different like playing while doing handstands, or something, our approach to this game is as predictable as the outcome of a souffle baked in an oven with no door

I'm bemused, is Kagawa just hopelessly shit in training or has he Zaha'd Moyes daughter? It beggars belief as to why he's always shunned. Not meaning to hijack this into a Kagawa thread but this game would have been perfect for him, and its not like he's been overplayed...

The lack of flair and creativity in that team is shocking in a game where we need to score three.

Really hope Kagawa gets a good move in the summer. I'm confident he'll prove what an idiot Moyes is wherever he goes.

I agree, RVP has been dog shit recently. Rooney and Kagawa would have been a chance to play football through their shit defence.

I wouldn't say we don't stand a chance. Rooney will probably drop deep and Welbeck might inter-link with RVP at times. But yes, the midfield is zero pace and very little energy. If they go 3 in midfield, it's going to be tricky. Kagawa would have been useful...

Urgh, Danny on the left? I love him, but it's likely he'll have another ineffective game and get slagged off.

RVP's been shit for a while. Welbeck deserves a chance up front.

So, am I the only one to get a bit of a lift with Giggs and rio starting?

This could be our last CL match for a year or two. I'm gonna enjoy it no matter what

Might be last time Giggs and rio will ever play in Europe.
I'm happy both are starting too. Vidic shouldn't start anymore and Rio is the only other option and Giggs deserves to start if it is his last game in Europe.

Quite excited. United either get knocked out to Olympiakos or it's a high scoring game. Win win.

He's got a better midfield four sat on the bench.

I'd sooner see Januzaj-Fletcher-Fellaini-Kagawa than that quartet.

is Giggs inclusion based on a game plan or simply just a reaction to the falling out rumours and that Ghost article?

I think its obvious - David Moyes is clearly an avid whale lover. Japan hate whales and butcher them en masse. Do the maths.

Carrick/Giggs CM, what could possibly go wrong? still not dropping the poor performers (Carrick/RVP)
Whatever....

But yeah, final CL game for a while so may as well try and enjoy it.

It just shows he learns nothing.

Two of our biggest problems has been the lack of connection between Rooney and RVP and over-reliance on crosses and being one dimensional. So what's Moyes' solution?

Rooney and RVP start in a line up that looks almost certain to provide an abundance of crosses.

To be fair even when we've picked quality teams we've looked gash. This team is more than good enough to beat Olympiacos if we have our heads right.

If we don't? Then Moyes will have gone down sticking to his very dodgy principles I guess.

I predict a poor win that won't get us through. Still, you never know.

I'm going to reserve judgement based on the assumption that Moyes has some genius masterplan that my limited mortal mental capacities can't comprehend. Otherwise, this lineup will push me to the verge of insanity.
