Manchester United v Manchester City

@.Rossi

I like that, can't disagree with the back 5, Not sure If I like the idea of Kagawa playing as he's extremely lightweight unfortunately, I'd prefer Valencia, Rafael seems to have an understanding with him and I'd imagine he'd be more inclined to help out defending.

Another ? for me is Carrick strangely, we haven't seen the best of him in midfield this season, his best game came in CB  I'd maybe opt for one of Fletcher/Fell alongside Jones (If he's fit) which I realise has less finesse than Lurch from the Adams family but it's the only way I see us A) compensating for our weakest position and B) Nullifying their strongest..

EDIT: I'm actually going to change my mind and stick with your choice of Kagawa as If i go for double bruiser in the centre, we need a creative outlet and Kagawa > Valencia for that all day long...

I agree Carrick has been woeful at times this year..But I have no confidence in Fellaini. At least Carrick could read a potential dangerous situation. I don't even know what Fellaini is supposed to do in there.

The only reason I picked Kagawa is because of that Barcelona match. I seen some passes through City's defence, that were quite simple, but exposed Kompany and his positioning badly....And if we have him and Mata cutting in with their vision, with Welbeck up top and Rooney driving forward into the spaces, I can see us creating opportunities that hopefully we won't pass up

We tried with two wingers against them and it just does not work. Unless we sit back, be patient and hit them on the counter attack....But that is way too dangerous

Ok, you've turned me with Kagawa  I still can't let Carrick stay in midfield though as he isn't a defensive player, in the sense he makes very few tackles/interceptions this season, his passing is on point, but he's immobile, I'd rather partner Jones with Fletcher at least if you hate the microphone

We need three in the midfield, simple as. Carrick, Fellaini, and Giggs.
Not sure If I want Giggs here, plus he usually has a break inbetween games doesn't he? Worried it may be too physical..

Naah, I'd be comfortable with Carrick+fellaini. If you play giggs ahead of these 2, he wont play much different to how Mata would.

Some of the comments in here, sheash! We're Man United for goodness sake, not some non league pony.

City lost at home to Wigan the other week.

If we play really well, and they don't, we can win, simple as!

My confidence is minimal for this one. Liverpool taught us a lesson, and City are better than Liverpool IMO. I hate the derby. Our record in the past few years is awful.

Not saying a United win is not possible, but I am not sure City were too bothered against Wigan. In any case, it is a bad analogy.

Status update: I am still buzzing for tonight. I really can't wait. Regardless of the result I think it is going to be an amazing and entertaining game of football.

Looking at league form City have taken 44 from the last 51 available (14 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss) so I think it's fair that Wigan was an odd result. Although, United are no Wigan and you are definitely capable of getting a result no matter the circumstances - I think much of the game is dependent on the United line up, CB and CM pairings more specifically. Are you waiting on injury updates or do you know how you will line up (roughly)?

Not a United fan here, nor a City one for that matter, but I am still excited over this. I am sure that RvP will be out, and if I am not mistaken Smalling is out as well... But I am certain that the United fans on here can fully enlighten us on their potential starting XI.

I'm afraid we as United fans know as much about our potential 11 as any non-United fan knows. It's been like that for a while. I barely got 7 players right last time round against West Ham. If I had to guess it would be: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Welbeck, Mata, Rooney.
If Valencia isn't full fit then probably Kagawa in.

Considering there are plenty of reasons to have a go at him and the fact we've only beaten City once since 2011, a loss is not a reason to have a go at him..................Until we see the team sheet :D

True d.a.t. . . (Edit: I originally wrote True and the next word without the full stops but for some reason D followed by A followed by T is actually blanked out like a bad word!) . .

According to few blokes from Sarajevo who went to the game and had a drink with Dzeko at City's hotel, he should be starter tonight.

I have never been an ITK so this is a weird feeling, should I spread the news over twitter?

Strong rumours that Dzeko is starting tonight. #itk #followme

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toureon Twitter: I don't know about you but I am so ready for tonight's derby.. Let s do this!!

I can never decide if seeing those things are a good thing or not... on one hand, he is psyched, on the other, he's psyched too early.

Also, Kompany will play, isn't suspended, served it during their last game, was only 1 match ban?

Anyone else think Welbeck should start on the left, should we play wingers? He'd keep Zabaleta working hard all match and he'd make Zabaleta struggle too get forward.
I think Welbeck should play out left, yeah, but not as an out and out winger, more of a wide forward. I think that would be the best way to utilize him tonight.

I don't see the need to change any of it going forward. Welbeck won't really provide width in the sense we need to use it as an attacking outlet. He'll be more likely to be a holding player our wide. Don't get me wrong my preference is to have a tight central passing game but if we are going to put someone wide, why not have it someone who can give us an option of width?

I'd play either Januzaj there or failing that Young, Valencia or Nani - take your pick. None of the last three particularly brilliant but it's a better option than Welbeck who I think works better if there's at least a natural wide option on the pitch.

If Moyes wins this game it will be his highlight of the year.

I'm not a Moyes fan, but if he pulls off a win today, then he deserves the credit. I don't care how we win. A penalty, a lucky deflection, any win will do.

Whatever we do I want us too go for this one. We can't play with fear, we have to play too score more than them, not concede less. As long as we don't play defensive, I'll be confident.

I am quite sure this will be our front four if all of them are fit: Welbeck, Mata, Rooney, Valencia.

Midfield and defence is hard to guess due the injuries, but I think that de Gea, Rafael, Jones, Evra, Fellaini, Carrick will all start. Rio might be that eleventh player.

45 years since we last lost three consecutive derbies. I'm pretty sure that'll be the latest 'record' for the papers to hammer Moyes with should we make a bollocks of this.

Well that's wrong for a start...

FA cup semi final 2011
6-1 in 2011
1-0 in 2012

Unless of course we count the 3-2 in the community shield
