This for me is about right, but you should have had Moore in there, take out Edwards and replace Moore and you'd be right.

What numpty put in Beckham? Beckham wouldn't make my all time 500. As for Rooney, he has the potential to be a great but far to early to say yet.

I can see where you are coming from with regards to Moore. I have seen Moore but not Edwards...but I had to put Edwards first based on what many have said about him.....Moore would not have played for England...well not be the first choice anyways if Edwards had lived.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But all I can see is Moores tackle on Pele, it's one of those images that anyone who has seen it will never forget. Also the image of Pele exchanging shirts with him and stating that Moore was the most difficult opponent he ever faced. His total professionalism. For me he was the last of an era. We will never see a player like him again in an England shirt unfortunatly.

Bobby Meaningless
Terry Pointless
Sammy Argument
Jackie Whybother
U. Cretins

In that order

To type Booby Meaningless is a fecking outrage. Bobby Meaningless should have no link whatsoever to Bobby Moore. You should be shot for just thinking it.

Nonsense. Moore may have been elegant in the tackle, but Meaningless had better ball sense, was more of a threat in the final third and had a fitter wife.

I hope you accidentally set fire to your tongue with a Catherine Wheel

Wasn't he caught thieving at the World Cup Finals? Meaningless would never have done that. But he had rich parents. Like Mido.

Roy Keane
George Best
Kenny Dalglish
Maradonna
Pele

In no particular order or nationality

Why is Scholesy so underrated. Surely he has to up there with the greats?

I'm amazed at this thread.

Jimmy Greeves has to be included, no?

Ron Harris - footballer???? the guy was a thug that kicked everything and anything that moved except the football

Kevin keegan - not for his footie talent but his haistyle and singing

Bobby Moore was a centre back, Duncan Edwards wasn't

Only those who saw Edwards play are in a position to comment on how good he was. The rest is just speculation as there is no substantial footage of the guy playing.

Do we really have to have seen Dunc play? Some of you may not hold to much respect for the following people, but they've done more in the game than any of us. Sir Bobby Robson, Don Howe, Sir Bobby Charlton, Wilf McGuiness and of course Sir Matt rip. All of them will tell you just how good Dunc was when he died. I for one regardless of never seeing him will put him on my list of greatest ever English players. I think Dunc would have been the equal to Pele during the 60's, but we'll never know will we.

This type of arguement runs on and on, so here's my 5

Duncan Edwards
Sir Bobby Charlton
Gordon Banks
Paul Gascoigne (much in the same vien as George Best in terms of wasted talent - Rooney will probably superseed Gazza at some point very soon)
Geoff Thomas :smirk:

In my time
Wayne Rooney
Bryan Robson
John Barnes
Paul Gascoigne
Peter Shilton

From what ive heard and seen little bits of video footage
Duncan Edwards
Bobby Charlton
Jimmy Greaves
Stanley Matthews
Bobby Moore

Rooney? at this early stage?

fecking biased madness. If his leg fell off tomorrow and he enevr played again he'd not be called one of the best ever.

He's played about what 3 games at a major tournament?

Lunatics.
