My first matchday thread post :D

I'm looking forward to this game which is surprising, i have missed this feeling. Giggs as a manager, home game and then there is no Moyes...
I think Giggs will go on and make some big changes. I can see him going with a 4-4-1-1, with Mata and Danny upfront, Valencia and Januzaj as wingers and Carrick with Fletcher or Cleverley on the midfield. I would love to see Giggs giving young players like Wilson and Varela a go and put them at least on the bench and i think Nicky will tell Giggs to do so.

I go with a 3-0 home win:cool:
No shirt for Rooney? That would indeed be brave.

De Gea

Rafael/Jones --- Smalling --- Evans --- Evra

Carrick --- Fellaini

Nani --- Mata --- Kagawa

Hernandez
I really hope Rooney is dropped to the bench for this one. His performance yesterday was terrible. If he is being paid £300,000 a week, he needs to be a consistent performer for our side, no matter how bad the rest of the team play. Stick Hernandez up front, seeing as he got a good partnership going with Kagawa and Mata at Newcastle. Be interesting to see how Nani blends in with the other front 3.
Sticking with Fellaini JS ? Agree on Hernandez.

Will Rooney play? I do not want to waste one of my fantasy point on the possibility that he would not. Whoever the striker is going to be in this game, they will surely get a goal I would imagine.

Jones-Smalling-Evans-Evra----

Januzaj---Mata-----Kagawa---
-----------Hernandez-------------

Play Smalling in his fecking position its simple. Don't want to see the immobile OAP pedestrian midfield of Carrick and Fletcher either, everyone and their aunts nan can get through it. Looks dire with Fellaini and Cleverley in the side but oh well. Most importantly drop Rooney.

A midfield of Jones & Clevery or Carrick? Valencia at RB if Rafael is still out?

I really liked the team we played against Everton but it was a little overloaded with playmakers and light on finishers (hence the imbalance between possession, which was excellent, and shots on target, which was poor).

So drop Nani for Januzaj/Valencia and give Rooney a break and Hernandez a start. Carrick, Fletcher, Mata and Kagawa is more than enough ball-players to keep possession and create chances. Januzaj should be told to play as attacking a game as possible, almost like a wide forward, and he and Hernandez can be the targets for Kagawa and Mata's creative efforts.

Then if it turns out we need even more cutting edge, bring Welbz on for Kagawa.

----De Gea
Varela Smalling Jones Evra

-------Welbeck

Subs: Januzaj, Hernandez, Fletcher

Scholes to start. You heard it here first. Joking, it's too late to register him.

Really looking forward to this game now, hopefully the players step up a level now that Moyes is gone. Giggs won't have that long to change things around, but he knows the club. I have no idea how we'll lineup. Go Giggsy.

This is interesting. We have absolutely no idea what to expect with Giggs. I have a feeling that he will be close to GNev in the way he sees the game.

I'm really excited for this game now though. I've been dreading games recently so being excited before one is a nice change.

whats all this no Rooney business.

I reckon he'll be playing a straight 4-4-1-1 job, 2 wingers, Carrick and Clev in mid, and Mata off Rooney

I agree with dropping Rooney - these four games are the chance for many players to make their case for staying at United when the next manager takes over, and given Rooney will now be here forever, then this is the time for the other strikers.

I also think Hernandez deserves a start after his cameo at Everton.

I think he'll prioritise pace in the attacking positions, so Welbeck and Rooney will be the first 2 names he puts down in the starting lineup. Mata's too good to drop so he'll be in. And Januzaj looks like a Giggsy type player if ever I've seen one.

I reckon it'll be something a bit lopsided like:

Januzaj-----Mata
-------Welbeck---Rooney

I dont have any idea on what the line up will be however we will attack and it is exciting that we will have no idea on what will happen.

I get the impression that Giggs doesn't really want to do the task. Although qualified enough, he has no experience and I don't doubt for a second that he's probably shitting it.

I reckon he'll go as non-controversial as possible. Probably a familiar back 5. Fletcher and Carrick in the middle. Januzaj/Mata/Kagawa in front of them and Rooney up top. Will be weird seeing him in the presser on Friday and talking after the game to the media.

I heard Eric Harrison, I think it was, on Talkshite this morning saying that Giggsy was really buzzing about taking over the team for the last 4 games.

It will give the dressing room a real lift and there will be great support at OT on Saturday.

I stand corrected by the Fergie lookalike.

I cannot wait for this game! What a lift the club has had in the past 2 days

4-1-4-1: I'd love something like this:

De Gea
Jones - Smalling - Evans - Evra
Carrick
Valencia - Rooney - Mata - Kagawa
Welbeck
With Wilson and Januzaj as second half subs

feck it, let's go for it from the off:

4-3-3

De Gea

Jones - Smalling - Evans - Evra

Carrick
Cleverley - Kagawa

Mata ----------------- Januzaj
Rooney

-----------------DDG-----------------
Rafael-----Jones----Smalling---Evra
----------------Carrick ---------------
---------Mata------------Kagawa-----
Nani------------Rooney--------Welbeck

Common giggsy!

4-4-1-1

De Gea
Jones - Smalling - Evans - Buttner
Valencia - Cleverley - Carrick - Mata
Rooney
Welbeck

Lindegaard - Fellaini - Hernandez - Januzaj - Nani - Kagawa - Fletcher

The team above is what I think Giggs will play, however, I'd go with something like:

De Gea
Jones - Smalling - Evans - Buttner
Fellaini
Cleverley
- Mata
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck

I feel the players in bold need to be given chances between now and the end of the season to try and impress Giggs and the fans, otherwise they could be off in the Summer.

Maraoune Fellaini

I feel Fellaini is better in the position I've put him in, which is sitting in front of the back four. Before he made the move to United this season, although nothing extravagant, Fellaini did a good job a good job holding, while Osman was the legs next to him. Because Martinez likes to play from the back, when Fellaini got the ball, there were a number of options off the ball, which meant when he got it, he kept it simple. Off the ball, while his interceptions weren't brilliant, he averaged 4.3 tackles a game in 3 appearances for Everton, and is currently our highest tackling midfielder in the team with 2.7.

Tom Cleverley

In my opinion, I really feel Cleverely still has a lot to offer for us, especially with players like Mata and Kagawa in the midfield with him. Like Fellaini, Cleverley isn't going to do anything special, which I suppose we should be expecting at a team like Utd, however, he'll keep the ball ticking over and always makes himself available for a pass.

In my opinion, Cleverley's best game this season come against Villa when we played three in the middle. Although on paper it showed Rooney behind Welbeck, Rooney was very much playing like a centre midfielder that day, and the passing and interchanging between Giggs, Cleverley and Rooney was good to watch. Playing three in the middle also allowed Cleverley to get forward more, and got rewarded with a goal.

Luis Nani

I personally feel Nani's as good as gone, however, if he were to put some good performances in between now and the end of the season, who knows? He's certainly got the ability to start for us and be a top player when in form, but that seems to be far and few between, unfortunately.

Does anyone expect a serious change in tactics/style of play?

I expect some players to play with a bit more freedom, like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders - but at the same time I don't expect any significant amazing change.

With no pressure at all for the next few games, hopefully they can put in a decent performance or two.

A lot of talk recently has been about the lack of speed in our game and runners off the ball, so I expect that to change. Moyes played with two defensive midfielders who very rarely ran in behind. I expect Giggs to maybe change that, which will probably mean we'll be more open, but hopefully be more of a threat going forward.

I also expect to see at least one out and out winger who will provide width, in order to stretch teams.

New-found enthusiasm will be very much noticeable, which will lead to a more positive approach in our style of play.
