United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

30 million for an 18 year old English left back on 100k a week and two static dock workers and leg choppers, one at 30 plus million after humping the exhilarating high class portuguese league and the other a one season wonder in a league at the height of its powers with the Milan teams stronger than ever.

With suggestions like these we might as well bring Moyes back and labour on with his workman like tactics. We will have the players for it.

Yeah we need more creative midfielders i think your right... oh wait Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj all capable of pulling the strings from number 10 or from wide. Also Rooney who can drop deep and play number 10 as well whereas deeper in midfield we have incredible talent such as Cleverly, Anderson, Fletcher..... what do you want a team 10s? In football you need balance and at the moment we don't have that.

By all means. But lets not hear of a United way of doing things anymore either then.
You don't mention the Liverpool Boot Room and we won't mention the United way, that's a recent thing anyway, we can be as shitty with managers as the best of them. If a manager is rubbish you get rid, simple as.

Can we still not just shove a blank cheque under Klopp's door before we appoint Van Gaal?

That's not true. Louis van Gaal was very much involved in the Robben transfer and specifically asked him whether he could play as a right winger for Bayern München. So the Bayern board didn't overrule LvG on Robben, that signing was a mutual effort by the coach and the FO.

Alright, but still. Look at what he's bought in his illustrious and long career... pair that with his quotes about believing in producing talents from the own academy, making players better, it is almost sure he will first try his hand with alot of the players in the existing squad.

Do not grimace when I make another 'I told you so' powerplay come august/sept.

I'm sure we'll have made delicate enquiries, but his two statements have been entirely unambiguous. More money is clearly not going to steal him away from Dortmund at the moment.

We need one box to box midfielder who is dynamic and energetic. Strootman is not that player and I am sceptical about Carvalho.

He's not letting his mouth run away with him again is he?

A summer of change beckons at Manchester United with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward claiming the club will make some big moves in the transfer market.

David Moyes has endured a troubled season at the helm of the champions, with last season's Premier League winners now in a real struggle to finish in the top four.

They are currently seventh after a ghastly run of form and Moyes is expected to be busy in the market at the end of the season, shipping out the deadwood and signing players to change his fortunes around.

Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed he is off while United are targeting two central midfielders as well as additions in defence.

Having landed Juan Mata in a club record £37.1m deal in January, Woodward says more could come in the summer.

"We'll move in the market in a way we haven't seen in recent years," he said.

"It's fair to say we're focused on strengthening the squad. I'm focused on a long term strategy to make sure we build a competitive squad that is challenging for trophies.

"We'll invest in the squad as we need to, to make sure we compete at the highest level."

Regarding outgoings, he added: "We are looking at some players in the squad that perhaps we will sell this summer."

Klopp is adamant that he doesn't want the job. We can't kidnap him at gunpoint and force him to sign.

Van Gaal prefers working with what he's got and improving them to show off his coaching skills... plus he has the WC to deal with first. I suspect minimal transfer acticity. Certainly less than if Moyes had stayed or another manager had been appointed.

It's true that Van Gaal has worked with what he got at Bayern, at AZ he bought a lot. He wouldn't make a problem of it if there was only minimal transfer activity. But he is not stupid, all the top 6/7 clubs in England have insane selections, so he wouldn't mind more players at all. Also, just like clubs like Bayern and Real, I expect us to do business regardless of who comes in, and we've always spent at least around 60 million every year, so why would that change after our worst season ever? It would be a massive risk for us not to invest.

Also Valencia does not have any Overmars traits, except pace, really. And in his best season for us, he was a decent crosser. But that would make all the pacey players or players who can give a cross in the world have Overmars traits.

Kevin, I was one of the very first here on redcafe who pointed out that LvG would focus on underperforming players and young lads in the academy. I definitely agree, there won't be huge spending if LvG makes the calls, I simply wanted to correct your statement about the Robben transfer. It's important because I doubt he's going to fight Woodward & Co. over player signatures this summer, he will of course give his strong imput and recommendations but he always worked with a Director of Football in the past. In other words, with somebody who signed the players for him. Hence I wouldn't rule out some significant transfers this summer. The initiative with those transfers will most likely lie with Woodward & Co and not Louis van Gaal, but still, I think there will be serious investment into the squad.

So cute to see desperate transfer muppets grasp at straws here and keep the 150 million spending spree dream alive...

Live with it guys. We got the right man, but he will need time and he won't give 2 fecks about whatever transfer ambitions we had previously laid out. The guy wants control, not being bossed around by the board and see them decide on transfers before he's even landed in Manchester.

I'm not hoping for transfers per se, only if we get exactly the right ones. My estimation is just more accurate than yours, I'm pretty convinced of that.

Klopp said the other day that its embarrassing for him to answer questions about the United vacancy, when he hasnt even received an offer for us...

Stick a feckin offer in ffs Ed & see what happens!

Klopp is adamant that he doesn't want the job. We can't kidnap him at gunpoint and force him to sign.

Why can't people understand this? He said his contract is very important to him and he wants to fulfil his contract he loves Dortmund.

That our transfer activity will not be minimal. At least 60 million pounds, roughly like we've always done, and perhaps even a little more.

60 Million I agree with. 2 max 3 players in today's market. No more.

Look at van Gaal's history of buys... the most spectacular name is Robben and even then he was bought because the Bayern board overruled him.

He promotes youngsters and is firmly proud mentioning that he makes players better. He will work hard on Fellaini and Cleverley.

I meant it's never stopped the muppets before. Muppets unite in the summer regardless if we look like spending a lot or not.

We do. I said this last summer and I still think it. We need to make the hard choices. We need to bring in 3 and let go of a minimum of 2 Cms.

Long term, yes, we need to restructure that whole areas. But looking at next season, two quality midfielders would be a huge addition. I reckon the likes of Carrick and Fletcher can still do a job. Maybe a good manager can get Cleverley going again.

Don't bother with convincing people about Klopp anymore. Many have tried and failed.

Never know...

I am 99.9% sure he doesn't want it but at the same time, he isn't going to say in the final run in on his season that he wants another job.

You're right. It's not only fans on here mind you, it's United fans everywhere who think we can get Klopp if we really wanted too, it's absurd!

So you reckon, 2 or 3 players will make us Prem & Champions League winners?

:lol::wenger:
We shouldn't be aiming for that next season, that should be the goal the season afterwards, which means we have 3 transfer windows. This first one should be to solve the immediate issues and then, if needed, we can upgrade or add depth in the next summer window.

Well to be fair, if we get a left back and a cm for 60 million and everyone is fit, then we have a very, very good squad. Will be competing for the league with that for sure if we're being managed properly.

Its pretty obvious that Van Gaal is the only one that seems to want it, so they're just jumpin the gun with this story because of its inevitable outcome...

No, well it could be, but the way they write it, they def. have a source. Talking about Portugal, where van Gaal has a house, a lot of similarities in reporting with when Levy came to Noordwijk to have informal talks with van Gaal. Which he had to confirm because of their reports.

I think timing is the main issue with most of the top managers. Van Gaal would be an intriguing choice, although I'd prefer someone like De Boer or Giggs as his assistant for succession planning instead of Kluivert.

I thought his English would be pretty strong like most Dutchmen but watching those few videos he's not completely fluent is he?
