Amazing Spider-Man 2

2.75 out of 5

Way too long, with far too little action. Not that I'm against drama in dialogue and character development, but the Peter/Gwen problems just bored me. So was all the Peter/Harry tension, which culminated in a very boring final confrontation. Some of the action though was pretty great, especially the Electro Spidey fight at the end.

In terms of Spidey flicks, Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is still the gold standard.

All I thought watching her segment was "its a woman playing Bob Dylan". Cate is terrific but that performance got way more praise than it deserved.

My thoughts exactly. "Halfway through the scene I forgot it was a woman playing him!" I've heard that so many times, and I can't help but think that they are all lying. It's so blatantly obviously a chick.

Little Deaths

Composed of three disturbingly sensual shorts, unified by the twin themes of sex and death.
I thought it was pretty damn good. 3 films of debauchery and revenge.
Out of the 3 the second is the most disturbing,it is called Mutant Tool and the tool part is not in reference to any DIY one, the other 2 are just very strange, the ending of the 3rd is excellent.
Will not be for everybody, but I would definitely recommended to anyone into horror/gore/sex movies with a sense of humor.

6.5/10

And in regards to the Wes Anderson talk, I agree for the most part that he's overrated and pretentious, but I quite liked Fantastic Mr Fox.

I think she channeled Dont Look Back Dylan really well, the fact that it's a woman playing the part was sort of the point, as Dylan was quite androgynous at the time.

Red Rock West & The Last Seduction - both very good shows, but The Last Seduction especially was unreal. Quality right down to the last seconds.

What else to watch by John Dahl?

Rounders is pretty good in my opinion. Definitely the best poker film around, although granted, the competition isn't great.

Recoil

Stone Cold Steve Austin in a pretty standard revenge film.
His family are killed by a gang of bikers, he goes after them in a small sleepy town, you know the rest.
The first 10 mins are pretty bad , nearly turned it off, its gets better and I found myself enjoying it, any movie about a vigilante who doses out his own justice to those who fall through the cracks is OK with me. Stone Cold the wrestler is a lot better than Stone Cold the actor, but this was his best film, not that the rest are up to much.

6/10

Don't know that much about Dylan to be honest, so you're probably right. If the point of casting Blanchet was to portray Dylan as a woman putting on a deep voice, then they definitely did a good job.

I do believe it was the point.

Linda Fiorentino, man...perhaps the sexiest female movie character ever.

Brilliant film.

You need to watch the Pennebaker documentary 'Don't Look Back' (Blanchett more or less reprises a chunk of it).

Despite not knowing much about Dylan at the time, I really liked I'm Not There the first time I saw it but after having seen Dont Look Back, No Direction Home and having listened to his music some more I thought it was just absolutely brilliant when I watched it again.

Dom Hemingway (2013)

Average movie with some brilliant scenes. Good fun overall.

Jude Law getting there... a bit of improvement and he might be part of a Guy Ritchie movie someday.

6/10

Flash Gordon and all its kitschy splendour is on Film 4. Looks fantastic in HD. Didn't realise it was such a gorgeous looking film...(not seen it since childhood).

God's not dead

A puff piece to glorify the beliefs of the god squad. Too many of the atheists were caricature bad guys, particularly the philosophy professor who ultimately goes the way of all bad guys in the moralistic old-time westerns. And the intellectual arguments for atheism were, of course, selectively presented and dismissed. It's doing very well at the US box office for obvious reasons.

Overall: cringeworthy (0/10) if you are not a christian, uplifting (10/10) if you are.

Calvary

Fantastic performance from Brendan Gleeson, around whom the whole film rotates as it dissects the hypocrisy of the Catholic church and its decline from total moral authority and parish priest as demi-god to a rolling joke. Early scenes look as though they were shot at Strandhill with Knocknarea in the background.

There's been an influx of god/religion movies lately. The resident FB xians get all giddy too, so I've noticed on my news feed.

The Stag/The Bachelor Weekend And Irish comedy that sadly isn't very funny. In fact there are just about no laughs or smiles in the whole of the first half. The directing is lazy and sloppy and the acting isn't that great in the main. The second half is much better but not good enough to save the film as a whole. In fact I'd guess that most home viewers won't get to the second half through boredom. Shame because the idea behind it were slightly less vacuous that most films of this type. 3/10

We mentioned possible actors for the Pennywise role previously in this thread, or the remakes thread, can't recall.

Some candidates mentioned included Depp, Cage, Leguizamo, Murphy, Buscemi, Dafoe, the list goes on.

The one site claims it will be a two-film adaptation. Intriguing.

I have just read about the 2 part thing too, also meant to R rated, plenty of gore.

Have you read the novel? I have not but have read much of the novel was considered too much for prime-time TV in the 90s and was left out. That should be good for a cinema release. Hopefully, a cinematic release will include a history of It.

Post 22 has a list of ideas http://www.gamespot.com/forums/offt...-pennywise-in-new-stephen-kings-it--29410703/

- It has to be 2 2 and a half hour movies, if not 3 hour

- Theatrical release(s), rated R

- I think we can do without the interludes, so that cuts out some of the novel

- Which brings me to this point... the novel is not as long as it seems, what I mean is, King goes on for like 5 pages discussing a character's medicine cabinet.... if Stephen cut out all the unnecessary bits from the book, it could be half the size

- Oh, and one scene they can 10000% cut out is that little orgy the 12 year olds have in the end

- Gotta have the hobo scene (which was replaced with the shower scene), actually, make the encounters more like the book

- Adrian Mellon

- Ritual of chud

- More on the history of IT

- The turtle

- Tim Curry returns as Pennywise... why not?

The issue is that the novel takes place in 1958 and 1985, so it has a lot of references during those eras. I do not know if they can do 1987 and 2014 being the years... it will be interesting if they do remake it

I'm looking forward to this, loved The Guard, and the early buzz is that it's great.

I'm going to watch some animated movies... The Illusionist, Waltz with Bashir, The Wind Rises and a few more hopefully.
