Manchester United vs. Norwich City

Say what you want about it but the lineup is blatantly every player who had a poor relationship with Moyes, apart from De Gea who probably doesn't care. Maybe Jones too. Don't think that Giggs doesn't rate Mata or anything like that, it's probably just that for the first game he wants players to prove a point, rightly or wrongly. Hopefully it works out well and we see a good performance. Hope Mata gets subbed on too.

This shit about Mata being bad against Everton is hilarious. He did an excellent job of what we know he is best at - keeping the ball, even in the final third, and looking to find the forwards. Kagawa was the same. The problem wasn't with either of them, it was with the fact that we didn't play enough bloody 'forwards'. Mata, Kagawa, Rooney and Nani (who was also just quite shite) were all looking for the ball to feet, trying to find passes, but no-one on the pitch was actually making the runs to be passed to.

Play lots of possession players and too few direct attackers = have lots of possession but no real goal threat. It's not rocket science.

Mata had a poor game against Everton. You're over-complicating things. It's not rocket science.

It must be a huge boost for Kagawa starting ahead of Mata.

Hoping to see a positive Cleverley today. This is the kind of game he should be performing in with ease if he stands a chance at United.

I knew he was going to play cleverley. Im glad I gambled and put him in my line up game squad.

Cleverley's drop in form this year, and its been a dramatic drop in form may simply be down to moyes' tactics, abd this could be giggs' way of saying to cleverley to prove that. The whole 'no midfielders ahead of the ball' crap was always going to limit cleverley with his style. This is a vote of confidence from giggs.

Not sure about the mata thing, he could just rotate kagawa and mata for rest of season, probably looking too much into it.

Not convinced its necessarily a 442, could be welbeck on the left, that's how I read it initially, welbeck provides more pace and speed than kagawa

These are the kind of games you want to give a new manager a chance to experiment with the lineup.

But in Giggs circumstances he wants a winning record and has chosen the players he trusts the most! so no youth or new signings.

Norwich XI: Ruddy; Whittaker, Martin (c), Turner, Olsson; Johnson; Fer, Howson; Snodgrass; Redmond, van Wolfswinkel
subs: Bunn (GK), Hooper, Gutierrez, Elmander, R Bennett, Tettey, Josh Murphy

I'd fecking hate to think that had any bearing on his team selection.

I love Mata, so I'm hoping this is down to a slight injury or something. The lineup might work in the sense that a lot of players playing have a hell of a lot to prove. Although with no new manager in place I'm not sure who they wil be proving anything to.

We'll see a different level of performance today no matter the line-up IMO. Can't see anything other than a comfortable win here today.

Strange that Januzaj isn't even on the bench. Seems like Giggs dropped everyone who had a decent relationship with Moyes

He was probably our best player against them out of the starters. Not saying much but he was basically less awful then everyone else.
That is a big worry, you cannot let things like that get in the way of picking the right team, if he wants to be kept on with a new manager, he cannot be seen to be picking his personal buddies.

I knew we wouldn't play with 2 of Kagawa, Mata and Adnan. He's been talking about playing the United way and to him that's with proper wingers, I actually thought he might start Nani today though.

It definitly looks like a massive 'feck you' to David Moyes though.

Poor team, IMO.

I'd be shocked if we played much better today than we recently did.
Well have that new manager syndrome people talk about. Expect it will be less new manger syndrome and more "Moyes is gone" syndrome.

It's a Fergie side?

Its a manchester United side! Pacey wide men and now with kagawa quality down the middle as well rather than two strikers. Giggs gets it.

I love the team for the fact it tells you who Giggs (and probably most senior players) rate

Fellaini  not in the team, although I do feel sorry that it must be obvious to him that the rest of the squad think he's a useless bastard.

I knew the talk about pace and power will bring back Valencia to the fold. I hated Moyes but i felt like in the last month he finally started seeing past Valencia and Young.

Ferguson used to name some shocking XIs that would go out and play well and win. Conversely Moyes picked some XIs which were great on paper but did nothing on the day.

Let's see how we play before criticising. We went to Goodison with the front four that alot of people wanted to see and we were dreadful.

Hopefully it won't happen, but it'd be hilarious if by the end of the game we end the game in more of a Moyes style with Clev/Val/Rio all taken off
It's fecking hilarious that you are equating Clev/Val/Rio with anti-Moyes style!

Mata was shit against Everton, as was Rooney. Ideally didn't want both of them to play at all.

I think Moyes actually picked teams that the caf wanted more frequently than Fergie.

4-5-1, shifting into 4-3-3.. Let's see how this goes, but it looks like United under Fergie. Very surprised he's gone with Rio and Vida to be completely honest.

I think this is mostly a case of Giggs going for what he knows rather than any two fingered salute to Moyes.
