This is the worst I think I've ever seen either of Carrick or Fletcher play. Both should be replaced in the Summer as first teamers.
I don't think I've seen either one perform particularly well when paired together. There is absolutely no balance having the pair of them in the same line up. It does not work.

We have Hernandez and Mata upfront. Two short guys and we've tried floating cross after cross.

It's so stupid.
This is why we need someone like Van Gaal. We need to weed out this brainless football and get some intelligent forward thinking football. What's even the point of this senseless crossing? We've failed miserably doing it all bloody season.

I was responding to someone else. But yeah, let's forget a period of our history where the players are also culpable for the shite football we've played. There needs to be acceptance in this forum that it wasn't all Moyes. Yes, he buckled under the mantle of manager at OT. But, he was not helped out by his players too much as well. There needs to be consensus on that.
But these are all irrelevant now, are they!? Moyes wasn't united quality and he had wasted us 10 months. Players can only do so much if they are badly manager. Regarding the players taking responsibility, it's still the manager's fault for not getting the best out of them.

Today's game is still only half way. If it's Moyes still taking charge, I can guarantee even you couldn't be expecting a clever deploy of players in the second half to change the game.

But I have confidence the HT talk form Giggs will make a difference. At least I am looking forward to an improvement in second half now it's Giggs not Moyes.

Not hair dryer but Giggs would be a better motivator than Moyes for sure!

This has been poorer than I expected. We stared bright enough, but just faded after that. Our wide players are so short of quality/confidence its ridiculous. If we had any quality there we'd be winning this by now. Surely Januzaj will be on for the second half.

Kagawa would be quite useful today if we had him, to play him in midfield. He's better there then anyone else we have probably.

He would have gave Mata an option, at least. The midfield is just completely ignoring him and reverting to the same, albeit successfully dull, rubbish we watched last season.

It's games like this that make me more annoyed that we wasted a year by employing a dinosaur like Moyes. Last Summer was the chance to evolve, and we blew it.

Seeing the goal again sure you can slag Fletcherinho but most of the fault lies at the feet of Rio and Carrick.

Because he is shite and trips over daisies.

Are we poor today or are Sunderland being typical awkward cnuts?

Eh? Welbeck is far from shit. On your second point, I would say it's a bit of both.

Carrick started off alright and was getting into more forward positions than he has all season but then he realised he's not very good at football anymore. Once the crowd got on his back after a bad pass or two he lost whatever confidence he had which wasn't much because he lacks balls

Giggs cannot be the next MU manager simply because he is afraid of keeping out his mates and fellow players who are
actually not good enough this season.
Players like Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick doesn't have pace in the midfield and cannot win the ball.
That is why United will suffer. Hope that he remove Fletcher and play Fellini and Welbeck in the second half
in place of Fletcher and Hernandez. Bring in Valencia too in place of Nani who is not trying hard enough.
Actually the pair of wingers are not performing, but only 3 substitutes allowed so no choice.
Poor selection and did not follow the saying of "never change a winning team unless there is injury".

If we wanna cross so much, might as well buy Andy Carroll then and settle for mediocrity

It's not a case of wanting to cross. It's a case of not having centre midfielders who can allow us to play through the middle.
They don't have the game to play through the middle, so they just go out wide.

I seriously doubt Giggs, or even Moyes were stupid enough to insist on pure crossing. It's a case of either watching Carrick attempt and fail to go past a man and play risky forward passes or let him do what he's always done.

You can only play a passing game with passing players who can also move forward, move off the ball, beat a man in tight spaces.
Not much anyone can do really.

Carrick may be 'better' than Shelvey or Allen, but I'd choose those two over him in a passing system.

We need a midfielder with a set of balls - someone to quicken up the tempo/drive us on. This pass the ball to your partner/Phil Jones and hope he'll do something is utter shit.

Seeing the goal again sure you can slag Fletcherinho but most of the fault lies at the feet of Rio and Carrick.

Agreed. While it was nice to see Carrick joining the attack from midfield, his main role includes tracking midfielders and he was caught out on the goal

Good lord that was dire. Our CM was woeful. Wingers were bleh. just ugh. Awful.

imo Welbeck on for Nani. Januzaj on for Young and Kagawa on for Carrick.

A few tweaks can break down and destroy a less than mediocre Sunderland side.

This game is serving as a live tutorial to a watching Van Gaal of the players' shortcomings. Better he find out now than October.

Giggs should not have rotated the squad so much just to keep players happy. Kagawa and Welbeck should have remained in the squad. Too much rotation is killing team chemistry.

This is why we need someone like Van Gaal. We need to weed out this brainless football and get some intelligent forward thinking football. What's even the point of this senseless crossing? We've failed miserably doing it all bloody season.
Those crosses if executed by Giggs or Valencia when he's at his best would work and I agree with you about needing some intelligent thinking. I would expect the second half will be different! Come on United!!!

Carrick has been our worst player today, needs a kick up the arse.

Hope Giggs has given them all a kick up the arse. Can we try and play with some tempo this half and utilise the strengths of the players we have on the pitch? Less crossing, more passing and movement. Some attempts on goal would be nice as well. We're getting to the edge of the box and posing little threat.
