Redknapp did though. He was talking as if they had it won. Even the way Gerrard spoke, answering the 'is it ours to lose?' question - he answered too quickly and in hindsight, probably learned off. 'We go again' were only words, because his reaction to the slip should not have happened. A real captain, a real leader (like Keane) would have reverted back to the game plan, not trying to become Mr Bigman.
 
Anybody else as amused as me by the "we are all delighted with the way the season panned out" propoganda now pouring out of Merseyside. My favourite so far being the below... if they tell themselves it's all OK enough times, it might become true!

I didn't act as if my opinion was a fact, I just stated my opinion. I stripped Gerrard of his set pieces and gave my opinion on how I think he stands without those. I could've provided his stats without his set pieces as a start, but nobody asked and don't tell me it's mandatory to provide evidence for every post on here.
I'd be open to debate my opinion and have it questioned and I'd go as far as to give you something that backs up my opinion, but it was called nonsense right from the start. And even after I asked to explain why it's nonsense, I received no answer to that.
From my point of view it's not ridiculous, I think he doesn't have much to offer without set-pieces and I also said that he surely has something that his team mates see in him. If they don't like my post or don't agree with what I have to say, but don't want to discuss either, why bother posting at all?

Quite sad really. I think it shows just how much Liverpool have declined over the years from being the very best in European and World football to now being satisfied with throwing away their first league title in the last 24 years.

Shankly would be rolling in his grave.

It isn't quite sad. Most of us see this as the start of something special. The hurt of losing will *hopefully serve us well next season and make this squad even more determined to go again and win it.

The abuse that we've been giving them since they fell out of the CL has gotten to their head and they now see that as the holy grail. It'd be hilarious if they went out in the group stages.

That's the different mentality between winners and losers, and sadly Liverpool fall into the category of losers these days.

Anyway I wouldn't have seen any such thing, because if I lived in Liverpool I'd have many years ago boarded up all my windows with 2 inch steel shutters, and built a tunnel to Warrington to facilitate coming and going from my house.

When you lot bottled the title in '92 what we're your thoughts? Did you think that perhaps it would drive you on to succeed in the future or were you saying "what a bunch of losers"?

The funniest thing about Rodgers was his press conference when asked about pressure being at the top. He laughed it off and said he was sleeping just fine at night. Well the pressure showed after the Chelsea game. I think for a while they had been getting away with some results with some proper dodgy defending but eventually came back to bite them on the arse.

Thing is their plan A worked so well so you're naturally reluctant to change but they were banking on just blowing teams out of the water with their attack. I think next season teams will play much deeper against them and their counter attacking game might not be as effective.
 
Just seen my first picture of Kompany and co lifting the title, but to cancel the sight out I imagined Suarez and Gerrard parading it and I felt a little better.

I think it has more to do with the we were/are set-up, along with a lack of focus & concentration, as opposed to the 4 individuals at the back.

In our 12 matches against the other sides in the top 7 we kept 5 clean sheets. Yet in the 26 games against the so-called lesser sides, incredibly, we only had the same number (5) of clean sheets. The Crystal Palace game was a perfect microcosm of the good, & the bad, aspects of our play last season. For 75 minutes we were well in control, 3 goals up, & had limited Palace to just a couple of long-range efforts. The midfield players had done an excellent job in working hard, & working closely with the defence, to ensure the opposition had limited opportunities. That changed at 3-0. The game was obviously 'won', & the players totally switched off. The gap between the defence & midfield suddenly became a chasm as one or two of our lads fancied getting in on the goal-scoring action. So the opportunities that had been in short supply for the home team, were now being handed to them on a plate.

I also believe that other sides will adopt a different approach next season when they play us. I reckon Brendan Rodgers will be thinking it too. So I wouldn't be surprised to see us playing a little more conservatively next year. I doubt we'll score anywhere near the same amount of goals, but I think our goals against column will look much better.

If you look at the points for champions this season and 2009/2010 they are equal on 86 points.
The league table from this season and the way results have gone is that alot of teams were capable of beating each other compared to 2009/2010 season which was one sided,there was also 3 teams fighting for the title this year compared to 2 teams for the 90/10.
The Europa league spots were also more closly fought therefore in my eyes that would make the "competition" better this season and more difficult compared to that 09/10 season.

I dont but the they threw it away,it was unchartered waters for this team,a costly slip and bad tactics against palace back fired badly for them.

United were top with just 4 games to go that season, & they surprisingly lost at home to Nottingham Forest, which was followed by a 1-0 away defeat to West Ham, then we finished them off with a 2-0 win at Anfield in the next match.

I remember thinking to myself that they'd blown the best chance they'd had in 25 years of finally winning the title, & that it could be another 25 years before they have such an opportunity again.

Just shows what I know doesn't it ?
 
I for one never subscribed to the 'Liverpool have blown it for years' cause they did not get the title this year.

I'm certain you will be among the top 4. We may or may not make the CL. I would say one of United, Arsenal or Chelsea will not make the top 4. The big difference will be how much each team strengthens.

Chelsea got the better of the league champions over both league games & took maximum points. The Chelsea bus is ideal for short, boring, journeys. Not so good though when you want to accelerate through the defences of teams like Villa, Palace, & Sunderland.

It's started happening a bit near me, especially today, the elation and jubilation of finishing in the top four, but no, not just in it, actually finishing 2nd, that elation is starting to wear thin as shock wears off and the grim realization that they actually threw away their best chance in near 2 and a half decades. The sentence "we've had a great season" is starting to be ended with the word "but" and swiftly followed up by how close they came to winning it, slowly the reality is sinking in that they fecked it up.
Yes it was still a great season for LFC but with 4 games to go and the title in your hands it was still a massively disappointing end to it all. Talking to a group of lads today (3 of them season ticket holders) and once it got down to it the whole lot of them are starting to feel utterly wounded by the last few games and this despite them still being fairly bullish throughout the last week or so.
I see this thread still has it's fair share of bullish attitudes but your only fooling yourselves, I haven't been buying this attitude since the Gerrard slip and I wont be starting anytime soon but the real beauty is that it takes real character to admit to and learn from your failings, I saw a bit of that today in those lads but the majority of fans in the City are apparently sweeping the balls up under the carpet so all is becoming normal again.
