Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Makes sense...but the guys in the studio just said when Brazil play its a half day working day for the country. So there goes that legitimate reason...

 Then I have no idea and Van Gaal has a right to voice why then

What a goal from our Dutch new boys. Vlaar wins a header from Chile's corner, out to De Jong who volleys it forward to Robben skins his man and pick out Depay for the tap in.

Sexy 2nd goal, hope he can install his style quickly here, would be a breath of fresh air after Sir Alex last odd year and Moyes get it wide, get it in reign.

Tactics were spot on again. Who'd have expected them to top the group with 3 wins?!

With 3 wins in this group, despite pretty poor squad, I guess van Gaal is the best manager of the group stage by some distance.

Chile without Vidal but Holland without Strootman, Indie and Van Persie. Not bad indeed... not feckin bad.

I don't think even Ferguson could have got away with starting the nearly 34 year old Kuyt in a role that requires a lot of stamina.

How does he make these things work?

One thing you can't accuse Kuyt for is a lack of stamina. Plus according to the Fenerbache doctors he has the body of a 27 year old.

Kuyt has pretty much been a quasi wing back for most of his career in the top flight.

A draw was enough. But todays performance has Liverpool - Chelsea 0-2 written all over it. So great to see Van Gaal studied his protoge Mourinho's tactics and applies them very well. Man I'm getting smashed now, Brazil to win feck yeah

I can't wait for LvG to start but we need to temper our enthusiasm with the fact that this will be a much tougher job than coaching a squad of players he has probably known or known about for years.

Considering that the Dutch are in transition it's all the more impressive I'd say.

May not necessarily be LVG related, but United currently have the most world cup goalscorers (5) ahead of Bayern (4) and Barca (3). Bodes well :D

I really think fans under estimate the quality of our team. Don't be brainwashed by Moyes and his constant "rebuilding" rhetoric. This team has a lot of quality. A world class keeper in de gea. Two very talented young defenders in Jones and Smalling. A brilliant ball playing CB in Evans. We have Rafael at rb with Luke Shaw providing competition to Evra at lb. Our attacking options are top class too. RvP, Rooney, Mata, Januzaj, Kagawa are all fantastic footballers. Nani and Welbeck could improve under LvG. We are lacking quality in the middle, that's no secret but we will no doubt find a top midfielder to partner the underrated Michael Carrick this summer.

All in all people keep talking about this massive rebuilding project that's required but the reality is we are 2 or 3 signings from being back to our best.

Well, the Costa Rica guy may disagree but still Van Gaal has been excellent.

10 goals, attractive football, utterly slamming Spain, coming back against Oz, and comfortably seeing off Chile without VP. Cracking effort. Presumably, they'll face Mexico and have a great chance of quarter finals at least.

His self-confidence clearly rubs onto his players. This is not most talented bunch is handling at Netherlands but he is doing a very good job with them. A club season has its own challenges but he is veteran in it too. Not expecting miracles in his first season but if players adapt to his philosophy quickly and we get those crucial 2-3 signings right, then season after can be real fun.

May as well add in Robben's goals and Sanchez's too

All good points, but the man said "the Dutch", not "United".

Costa Rican manager must top LVG, still a great World Cup by him whatever happens next.

It all depends on what system LVG envisions for United, who is the players he builds the team around? LVG is so flexible it is hard to predict how he will line up and the only thing he is consistent with is the shocking decisions he ends up making for every team he plays for.

We have no clue whether Januzaj is the star of the team or whether it will be Welbeck. The guy is literally a mystery in these terms and I have tried to predict how he will use his new teams before and it always surprises people.

Depending on which players he wants in his first-team we need a different amount of signings in different areas. If he wants Kagawa and Mata as the star-duo we will be building a different team from if he chooses Rooney as the star player.

Random twitter guy says:

"If he operates like this at Old Trafford, despite results there will be an outcry."

Nah, returning to winning ways would be welcomed after last season's horror show.

I like the way he answers the bloody press. Straight forward, with the right condenscensing tone.

Those comments by him!! I am so excited.. After last year debacle, hearing our manager say he will play a system according to his team strengths to win is so refreshing.. I can't wait till we have his first press conference at OT..

Eh? This is exactly what we want to see from United, isn't it?

I'd still like to see 4 or 5 new players come in to freshen things up because I hope more of the deadwood is offloaded (Buttner to complete his move to Russia, Anderson etc) and we've already lost a couple of players, but I absolutely take your point. Van Gaal will have the vast majority, if not all, of these players performing a damn sight better than they did under Moyes last season I'm sure.

I'm really looking forward to it.
