Signing players took a back seat when i found out LvG was the next manager. When he was at Ajax, he was the only manager i looked at and thought "Feck me, he's good isn't he". All the top mangers in the game model their game on him for Christ/Science's sake. Top notch football coach.

van Gaal would do great if he could expand our horizons in the way we scout and recruit. If my memory serves well, Herrera is the first outfield player from outside the premier league in which we've invested more than 15m since the 2006/2007 season. There is so much talent in foreign mid-table teams that I wonder how we kept ignoring this and only signed Premier league based players for so long.

The Kuyt story is obvious bullshit, as for de Jong... We could do a lot worse in the short term, he's a very good holding midfielder.

Despite all the good vibes we've been giving off lately, I am concerned that we're heading towards a mid-season burnout for RVP and LvG.
RVP needs to take a good-long holiday before he comes back to us. He was injured a lot last season and there's been a huge physical stress on his body with his, almost super-human, efforts in Rio. Add to this the massive emotional strain that is the WC and we've got a complete exhaustion on the cards. He's going to be a very important player for us next season and he LvG must give him time off.
LvG is a more pressing concern for me. Sure, he is the manager and therefore doesn't need physical recuperation as such. But, being national team manager at the WC is a huge task and it's a different way of managing a team. Much as I'd love for him to go straight to OT after the WC and read the script, I'd prefer if he came with a fresh mind and soul. He's known to be a man who loves his peace and quiet. He's such an intense manager, he trains his players every day at a relentless pace. It's something that requires deep mental strength. Sir Alex didn't disappear to the south of France after every season for nothing. Hope LvG does the same.

Van Gaal hasn't spent more than three years playing a game every eight weeks or so, I hardly think a handful of games in the summer will constitute mental burnout for him.

please no The more and more I read about LvG, the more excited I am to see what he can do to this united side. I am normally a very cautious person, but I'm thoroughly excited for this season. It has been way to long since Utd have played good football. I think Chelsea will be the one to beat next season and I think it won't be easy, but give me a season of football that I can cheer and not fall asleep watching and a top 3 finish and I'll be quite content.
Yup. To me, he is exactly what United needs and his attitude/philosophy towards the game is what you would envision a United manager having. So excited for the upcoming season.

As for competing on four fronts, fortuitously we are not in Europe at all! Which means LvG has more time to impart Total Voetbal. He will consequently be less stressed and will not need to deal with mid-week matches too often. He has more time to give himself a breath. The same applies to RVP. He too will not need to stress too much. Perhaps he can compensate for the lack of holiday time with less football.
In any case, in all of Van Gaal's previous clubs it has been a fact that his players take time to adapt to his system. They take time to understand his methods and apply them to a high level during matches. Less matches in a week is a blessing in disguise. Gives us more time to get our act together under Van Gaal and 10 games in, which is when we face City and Chelsea ( I maybe wrong, but it's two of the big guns), we'll have gotten our acts together.
This next season will be a journey and we as fans will have the pleasure of seeing our team actually grow from strength to strength. Something a man with a plan like Van Gaal has done time and time again in his career. Something David Moyes didn't seem to possess.

Zola and the rest of them are talking on Bein sports and they just said our academy is currently in a very bad state and that van Gaal is the right man to improve it. Do they know something we don't? Is our academy really that bad?
Why are O'Neill and Cannavaro trying to insinuate that Van Gaal thinks he's invented the game? The point is that he's done something very clever with this current Dutch squad, which he has.

Well we haven't really brought through many quality players since the giggs/scholes/beckham generation.
Welbeck, cleverley, Evans, Wes brown... Bunch of mid table players really, just becoming squad players (welbeck has potential but he's not that young and not really improved). Januzaj doesn't really count as he came at 16, though we did develop him through the most important years. Doesn't count as academy though.
11/14 are dutch as well. incredible!

Overall poor game from the Dutch team and LVG, I don't think they are making themselves any favours by starting the matches with such negative formations and tactics. I think he will look much better when the opponent is of better quality as his 3-5-2/5-3-2 is really reactionary and counter attacking.
