Atletico would be brilliant to play as they are titled the currently best team while the chances to beat them remains really high. Could give an instant ego-boost for the players if they won and even if they lost with 1-0 or 2-0 it can be used as motivation to reach that level. I can't see us lose though against Atletico in a friendly, just seems like the sort of game where one team would try much harder.

Kind of like when United plays lower sides in friendlies and we often end up getting poor results as they take it much more seriously.
 
Whatever organisational structure was in place, this is just the start, Van Gaal will be looking to revamp the whole thing from the youth up. He'll likely also revamp the accommodations, he'll be looking to innovate. At least at Bayern he installed alot of new technology.
 
Does anyone know how the oppositions fans are reacting to our genius?! Id love to think they are having a bloody meltdown over this.

I was watching the Holland game with a mate whos a Palace fan and hes been saying "no, no United are screwed up for the next few years and I love it" and after the game he turned to me and said "wow, thats quite a special manager you have there".

I hope all the cocky cnuts are starting to realize we will be back with a bang. Imagine how exciting it must be to be part of United watching Holland, your thinking this guy is the real deal in a dying breed of innovative and exciting managers that take a no nonsense approach and take the biggest calculated risks to winning a game. Incredible stuff. LVG took a pretty exciting pen shootout and made it breathless.

I keep hearing how Kluivert is the real brains behind the operation :lol:

The same guys were telling me there was no good managers available and we'd never be able to get Klopp, Mourinho or Pep. Hopefully he'll prove them wrong.

Funny how it is always our assistants who are the real goings on behind our managers. Ferguson had 3 or 4 of them that all went on to do well for themsel .... oh.

Kluivert actually has a very limited role, Blind is Van Gaal's right hand. Kluivert was hired due to his age mostly and his background, a young former player who bridges the gap between players and staff.
 
no matter how good Kluivert is, we couldn't have a better assistant than Giggsy. Carrying on with the United Spirit, maybe the only thing LvG still has to learn.
 
@SolidState on twitter they come across as quite bitter. Dont think they like entertaining the fact that United may be coming back to the top
 
The main thing is that we can look forward with excitement and anticipation again. Irrespective of how the semi-final goes against Argentina, we have the image of a proactive manager with a big personality who takes risks that tend to pay off. My image of a Moyes pre-United was of somebody wearing a pained expression as his side held on to a 1-0 lead against some crap side until they conceded an equaliser in the 85th minute.

This. I hoped that we'll get Blind too (apparently he's highly rated) but hopefully this new Dutch coach is that good (and it looks that it is from his CV). I guess that Giggs will have the Kluivert role and for United, there is no one else who will do it better than Giggsy.

Some that I know have been pretty silent. Like they've had a bunch of LVG jokes all ready to go the minute he loses and haven't been able to use them yet. Though I have gotten a couple of the "a real genius would have beaten Costa Rica in 90 minutes" lines. However, when confronted with the simple facts of what Costa Rica did all tournament, and the fact that the Dutch dominated possession, chances, shots, etc. by a 2 to 1 margin or better, they pretty much go quiet again.
 
:D soon lads soon well be able to stand there with nothing but a silent but confident grin on our faces. They will take the pics out of the tough times but my god well smash all their teams.

When the guy next to van gaal tried to explain, Van gaal stopped hime and went on to say that being journalist seems to be an easy job to have.

I am looking forward to some journalist asking hime how important Wayne Rooney is OR why Rooney played on the left etc.. Fireworks :drool:

Evening sessions in preseason are standard for a lot of European clubs. Some do when there's time mid-season as well and even mandate the players stay for lunch and siesta.

I doubt it sounds tough to van Gaal.

The narrative being pushed about him ordering the England players back for the preseason tour is so agenda driven. It's certain the same will apply to the Spanish players and Valencia and Kagawa etc and everyone who dropped out at the group stage. It's hardly like it'll be just the English lads.

The portrayal of him as an uncompromising dictator is being overplayed somewhat imo. The impression emanating from his WC team is one of unity with him allowing the players downtime and days off between training to relax and spend time with their families.

United have a manager who knows his apples again and expected to spend big. Arsenal looking likely to get Sanchez, City and Chelsea becoming the irresistible force and the immovable objects of the top four and Liverpool are selling the player who was probably worth, on his own, about 20 points difference to them last year and embarking on a Tottenham level spending spree, including half of Southampton's first team.

Why wouldn't you be worried as a Liverpool fan? Holding onto top four will be perhaps the hardest challenge they've faced in many years and I don't think their over-rated "they'll score 3 we'll score 4" managerial philosophy is likely to luck-out in two consecutive seasons.

They are worried, aren't they? They thought Moyes would get at least another 6-12 months to wreck us. Now we have a proper big time manager again and the owners seem finally to have loosened the purse strings.

Does he need an entire season like Moyes or will a few training sessions over the summer suffice?

I think so too, this is a guy who by now knows what he is going to do and the wheels are in motion but unlike last summer we aren't negotiating in public . Some of the players we might want to get rid of are also difficult to shift due to wages, players like Young and Anderson fall into that category so the clear out might peak around month end and towards the start of the season- it's not imperative that they have a preseason for their new team, on our end anyway.
 
Manchester United have confirmed new manager Louis van Gaal will join up with the squad for their pre-season tour next week.



Van Gaal is coaching the Netherlands until this weekend when the 2014 World Cup concludes, with his team playing in either the final or the third-place play-off.

United’s other World Cup participants, including Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, David de Gea and Shinji Kagawa, as well as new signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, will also depart for the United States on 18 July.

But Dutch striker Robin van Persie is not expected to link up with the rest of the squad until August.

United will face Los Angeles Galaxy on 23 July before playing games in the International Champions Cup against Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Should they reach the final of that competition - which also features north-west rivals Liverpool and Manchester City - they will play in Miami on 4 August.

A United statement read: "Fresh from his exploits at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, new manager Louis van Gaal will be part of the full tour with his first match in charge of United taking place against LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday, July 23.

"Many of United's World Cup players will also be in attendance for the duration of the tour including Wayne Rooney, David de Gea, Shinji Kagawa and Juan Mata.

"As well as the return of familiar faces, new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw will also be part of the travelling squad to make their Manchester United debuts."

Is Louis flying straight to LA from Brazil or is he planning on coming back to Europe for a few days?
 
Pretty sure I read elsewhere that he'll come back to Carrington for a bit before heading off to the US.
