Arturo Vidal

It seems a few are jumping ship after todays updates. I wish there was a facility where we could see which side of the fence posters in here are on. I'm firmly settling down in the 'We're signing him' camp until the window is closed.

Who is realistic then and fits your criteria?
Anyone is realistic but we need to give the big money. If we offered 50m for Vidal, Juve would accept it. Why are we playing around, only offering 4m more than we offered for Shaw and Herrera? Vidal is worth more than that.

What's next, we go for Hummels and start playing around at the 20-25m mark? We need to secure these deals with big money. That's why City get everyone.

Actually we've behaved quite professionally unlike the fabregas farce last summer we've either kept quiet during negotiations or we were never in for him in the first place.

Best to wait till 1st September before we start to panic, look at how Van Gaal managed Vlaar imagine what he could do for the likes of Cleverley.

Nothing to be alarmed about regarding Marotta's comments. The concern is that this drags on too long and other clubs join the race.

Just saying like who? with the calibre that we require?
I could only think of Khedira as an alternative to Vidal, but he is off to Arsenal by all accounts.
Maybe one of the Bender brothers?
Pretty sure we will end up with someone underwhelming again!

Not saying he is there yet, but how about Barkley? I personally would prefer Vidal, but...

In a nutshell what the feck is going on, please?
Juve press conference mentions that Vidal is not for sale and that he's happy at Juve. Also there was contact from important clubs about him but no talks have happened over Vidal.

That would be an incredibly unbalanced midfield considering Barkley is an attacking midfielder. Vidal is excellent defensively while also being good going forward and a box to box midfielder. We need that defensive quality in our midfield so we aren't too gung-ho.

Is Martinez worth 35 million to Bayern as a makeshift CB ?

Jesus reading this thread some of you are not going to make it through the next month.

Have faith more positive stuff has come out that negative over the last few days.

The club have said feck all about Vidal or any other potential transfer (no leaks) - so how are they lookin like mugs?

We dont know whats truly goin on, but i have alot of faith in Mitten when it comes to this story & he pretty much called it earlier today (pre-presser), when he said his sources at United informed him that they arent interested anymore for some reason.

Lets just wait & see how it all pans out though...

How so? The club hasn't even mentioned that were in for him, and it seems the press were all briefed a similar line.

2013: 'Oh, how embarrassing, we've publicly pursued players that have not signed for us, we look like mugs!'

2014: 'Oh how embarrassing, we've said absolutely nothing to suggest we're in for a certain player, and his club has said he's not joining us. We look like mugs!'

No one has any idea. Media have hyped the crap out of this with very flimsy reasons for doing so (other than internet hits and newspaper sales) and nothing was said in the conference that wasn't expected and doesn't give anything away.

I believe some people genuinely go from excitement to frustration in a matter of hours. If Vidal is signed it's great and if not big deal.

Some can't cope with the inevitable crash and burn after a failed transfer. We've enough to get excited about already, without getting upset about a player that isn't even ours. Still a chance he will sign anyway.

When did he say that? I don't think it was in the video that was posted earlier...

No Mitten said that the Club are briefing Journos that they are not interested. He also defended his sources from yesterday.

How about Luiz Gustavo really impressed me in the world cup, he's gettable and wouldn't cost a fortune either.

Can someone post the latest update from Mitten.
Here's the newest one:

Ouch that could be the nail in the coffin ..

Yep, when I saw video of Marotta saying these words I wasn't sure if they were genuine. But now that a news website has transcribed them, I believe he has said them. :smirk:

I still think this is all very weak:

We’ve never put him up for sale... Vidal showed that he is happy to continue with us...

It's nothing we didn't already know. Not saying this is going to happen, but I just don't see this presser as having told us much at all.

Just lock the thread until Vidal gets back off his hols. Otherwise some people are going to send themselves spiralling into depression.

Still, a lot of people might have thought this deal was pretty close to completion with Conte's departure. Even if the deal is still on (and I'd guess it probably is) then it really isn't going to be resolved soon, is it? They can hardly make that quick a turnaround.

Had a quick look on that Juve forum and they all seem convinced he's staying again. Which either means that a) they're idiots who have fallen for a clearly false denial from their club or b) we're idiots who've set ourselves up for disappointment yet again.

Guess we'll see what happens....

To be honest Sully, i was more concerned about Juve's deal with Irtube (or whatever his name is) falling through (goin to Roma apparantly). I gathered he might have been Vidals replacement?

He only signed for Wolfsburg last summer and Wolfsburg got in the champions league. Considering they are quite rich, I doubt they would sell for under £30m really. No reason to for them. Same with Ricardo Rodriguez. We should have gone for him last summer when he was leaving bayern.

Edit: they got 5th, not 4th. Still doubt they'd sell for cheap.

Yep, that isn't him saying that his sources have told him we're not interested any more. That's him saying that the club have briefed that we aren't interested anymore, him not giving an opinion on whether he believes that or not, and him defending his sources who up to yesterday were telling him they were confident of a deal being reached. At least that's how I read it...

They finished fifth. They're in the Europa league. Gustavo also has a buy-out clause, rumoured to be anywhere from €25-35m.

Surely more chance of getting him than Vidal, even without CL i'm sure we are a more attractive club than Wolfsburg.

Ohh really? Definitely thought they made top 4. Or actually it was schalke, completely forgot who it was.
