This is like Fabregas from last season, where he's our preferred choice and we are actively pursuing him, but we know that there's a very good chance that we don't sign him. This is one of several reasons why we've went out of our way to keep our distance from this story.

If people expect Vidal and we miss out and sign De Jong for example, it really puts De Jong in a tough spot. I reckon last summer had we signed any one of Herrera,Thiago or Fabregas and then signed Fellaini on top of that, people (myself included) wouldn't have been so upset with the Fellaini transfer from the start.

I honestly think the hardest part of this is to convince Vidal to leave Juventus, rather than to convince Juventus to sell.
 
Let's be honest, almost every summer transfer window ends in disappointment for us. This will probably be the same considering how high our expectations are - because the squad has massive wholes and an abundance of poor to average players.

Well according to the press they have briefed he's not a target.

I mean the reliable ones. Mirror, daily mail and Jackson have been going back and forth every day on where we are with him. Sky, Ogden, BBC, Mitten haven't said anything about us not being interested. Mitten only said that we started denying all reports today, when yesterday he said that we were in negotiations. Maybe it is dead in the water, but I doubt the story about us not being interested at all or him not being on our radar is true considering Vidal himself talked about it. The information BBC have said is just what their CEO said this morning, which wasn't exactly something conclusive and it's not like he could have said anything else really.

I'm probably just being overly optimistic about this, but I doubt our interest is over like the papers are saying. Conte resigning, Vidal's interview and the stuff Moggi said yesterday just makes me think there's more to it. No idea if we'll actually get him, opinion is probably 50/50 about that, but I don't think our interest in him is over.
 
No surprise that the deal isn't done or close. It's imo possible, but we have to pay good money, because they don't want to sell him and he will not force them, because he loves Juventus. So let's see what will happen the next weeks. But any stupid twitter shit from the joke which is named english press should be banned, every summer the same, they don't have more inside knowledge than we ffs.
 
Despite mass muppet suicide today I still think this one is ON. Even Ogden and Ducker who are considered reliable didn't had a clue about Herrera deal a day before it was announced. So either club have stopped briefing them or are feeding them lies.

It seems that Vidal is open to the move hes just not going to force the move incase it all falls apart and he has to remain at Juve and suffer at the hands of the fans. Fabregas came out last season and said he didnt want to leave Barca however Vidal has said he would be open to joining United so different scenario completely imho. I still think theirs life left in this transfer and totally agree with the part about us signing Felliani that there was too much disappointment surrounding it when it was announced, had we signed Herrera last season I dont think Felliani would have been bought but it would have taken the pressure of him had he came in along with Herrera. In fairness to Felliani he wasnt the worst midfield player last season we had on the pitch

Good thing we signed a deal to be a Moldovan mobile provider's official partner recently or this would be quite annoying.

No, I agree in as much as I think there's a more interesting story behind all of this that we'll never hear. Where I disagree is that I think it's pretty obvious the club are briefing journos that we don't wan the player. The Juve presser just gave them the ammo to write articles with a bit more substance.

But there is literally no excuse what so ever anymore, our rivals are strengthening around us whilst we are desperate for reinforcements, absolutely nothing has happened since Shaw and Herrera two players we desperately needed but were understood to be the beggining of more signings. Yet now here we are in front of one of the worlds very best players that we desperately need and we have decided we arent interested.

De Jong would be an embarassing signing for several reasons. 1) he is generally considered too old these days and provides one dimention to his game, defending aggressively. 2) Hes ex City, and not only that, he was deemed useless by their fans and the club, hence sold to Milan. 3) We would never hear the end of it from opposition fans especially City "HAHA sigining our duds, he was shit for us then, hell be shit for you now."


Id be very very dissapointed if we signed him and considering we seem to be in a "project" it would seem counter productive to sign a has been.
 
I don't understand all these overreactions, United don't to talk to the press about nothing Shaw, Herrera or Vidal and Marotta wanted to concentrate the press conference on the company and Allegri.

They are keeping everyone in the dark for obvious reasons.

Clubs never come out and say that they are willing to sell their top players so I wouldn't worry too much about that. It remains to be seen if we are actually interested in him though.

If we are I think we have a good chance of getting him mind.

If we offered Juventus 80 million, they would gift wrap Vidal and put him on the next plane to Manchester.

That Fergie quote does not apply here. Ronaldo wanted to desperately get the hell out of here and the money was huge.

Conte resigning, Vidal's interview and Moggi's statements leave little room for re-interpretation.
I think the evidence suggests Vidal is leaving Juve and if its not us, it'll be someone else, but he's gone.

I'd be very worried if we go into the season with Fletcher as a starter. Nowhere near good enough anymore I'm afraid.

Oh I'm sure we can get him if we make a big enough bid - just don't think it's looking likely we are willing to part with enough cash to tempt Juve. £34 million seems awfully low and I can't believe we've baulked at that.
 
We better have some good back up options otherwise we'll be scraping fourth.
 
Like how people believe in random twitter bollocks but have absolutely no doubts in squashing a club's statement and twist it to suit their needs. Fact is Juve denied the Vidal's departure and nothing else. Vidal may yet force his way out or Juve change their mind for a good price but the present scenario doesn't point to anything that makes you objectively believe otherwise. Why take examples of cases when a club denies interest and then sells the player without taking examples of gazillion other times when the club infact doesn't sell their treasured players.

Oh I believe that we're actually briefing them that we don't want him, I'm just skeptical on if it's true or not. We'll see I guess, maybe tomorrow, but I think it's more likely they'll just say no transfer stories during the press conference tomorrow as it usually is with us. It'd be weird if we suddenly didn't want him, considering Van Gaal is a huge fan of his and Juventus aren't in the best state right now, he seems like he'd be a perfect signing. Maybe they are just asking for too much and we aren't willing to go that high. Who knows.

That said we have made two excellent purchases and with a new manager I am confident of top 4. Rome wasn't built in a day, and if it takes a couple of windows for LVG to get the full squad sorted I have no issue.

I think with a consistent side and a midfield that supports the back four, we will be in a good position. We will not drop as many points against smaller teams as we did last year and I believe we will fair better against the bigger teams.

If we have Vidal or Vidal type of player it really looks even better. If he can't get what he wants we don't want him to do a Fellani.

I'd be furious if that was the case. Although it pains me to say Fletcher is a liability, it's not his fault but his sickness has left him a shadow of his old self.
 
I can't beleive the clowns taking this as he won't come. If anything I see this as encouraging, we haven't heard the usual 'he's a X player and we will not sell him'. What do they expect them to say!?

I'm not saying his coming but that press conference confirmed absolutely nothing whatsoever, the situation is the same as it was yesterday.
 
Juventus could have said this a long time ago. Saying it the day after Conte walks? It's still 50/50. Juventus were never going to say he's for sale and we all know that.

I still believe Cleverley will make it here as a squad player under the LvG's guidance. Fletcher didn't have a preseason in years and with the departures of Rio, Vidic & Evra is needed at the club. Yes he looked awful at times last year, but he deserves a shot at being a squad player here. Agree about Fellaini and Anderson, they have to go.

Not really... Arsenal, Chelsea and City have significantly strengthened this year.

Our manager and new recruits would have given us a good shot last year but I think with the transfer activity done by the top 3 teams this summer we will struggle this season without a top tier CB or CM (plus a winger as all ours are shit).
We need a CM/Box to box and a CB... that is the least we can do.
 
Crikey people, shall we not get too depressed? It's July 16th, no? Plenty of time to get in fresh faces and they'll be players (probably Anderson, Fletcher etc) that will leave too.

We're going to be fine :)

They didn't need to say anything before. With the manager situation they were forced to make a statement.
 
Allegri is used to lose his biggest star(s), which I think is one of the reasons why Juve hired him. I'm still confident of getting Vidal.
